Georgia/Turkey border at Turkgozu | Customs and Immigration

Georgia to Turkey. Border officials very friendly on both sides. Motorcyclists be careful with the insurance broker on the Turkish side (next to coffee shop). They first tried charging us the price for a car ($60 for 1 month). Once it was clarified we were on a motorbike ($50), the policy issued was for a car ("otomobil"). We insisted they change it to reflect reality, and they reissued the policy a few times, with slight changes, but without changing the vehicle type. At the end "the boss" who had been called to deal with us got so frustrated that he tore up the paper, gave us our money back, and threw his hands up. Something funny going on there. Make sure you check your policy before walking away.

Steps not too obvious in the beginning, otherwise easy and fast like pre posts wrote. Recommend. Just keep the weather in mind for snowfall when your late in the year.

From Turkey to Georgia with motorcycles. Nice and easy border crossing compared with Sarpi where we were two days earlier. Much, much quieter and a beautiful drive to get here too. First, walk up to a window to get stamped out of Turkey. Drive up to a window for someone to check the stamp. Park the motorcycle and walk up to one of the three booths in the middle of the Turkish border crossing for an exit registration check. Drive through one last window for one last check of papers. Not sure why so many checks! Only one window on the Georgian side does passports and vehicle checks. Insurance easily purchase just 800m away at the kiosk next to the Lukoil station. The google review of this border crossing makes it very clear!

Georgia to Turkey.
On georgian side everything fine. A bit slow but okay.
Turkish side is still under construction, so a bit more chaotic because it‘s very little space for the cars and big trucks.
Took us more than 2 hours for the entire process.
Everybody is very friendly.

Crossing in temporarily closed for passengers due to covid. I was there two days ago and tried to cross. It's 5 hours drive to the next crossing, so people should known this one is closed.

Border crossing is closed for passengers due to covid!!!
Only trucks can cross the border.
Police at the crossing said there are no plans to open it any time soon.
You must use Batumi border crossing to go from Turkey to Georgia, as it's the only open passenger crossing at the moment.

Crossing Georgia to Turkey on motorcycle. Insurance CAN be purchased on Turkish side from a small office right next to cafe. Motorbike has to be left at border, and insurance can be bought by walking across. Hope this helps someone.

Entering Georgia from Turkey. Roads were open in winter, but the pass on Turkish side in an altitude of 2.550 m had a lot of snow.
Formalities took us about an hour. Georgian customs checked our medicine very closely and a dog came to control our bus.

Smaller border post (24/7) with little traffic - very fast. Georgian side super smooth. Turkish side slightly more chaotic as both leaving and entering people use the same queues. Turkish visa can be bought on the spot, payment in Lira or USD. Euro accepted but at bad rates. No other costs. Green card insurance is required for them to check the vehicle in the country
