for us it was just perfect!
Clean, close to the river, actually by the river, very friendly relaxed stuff, 240 Namibian Dollars per night per person. Offers also dinner, but you have to preorder until 16.00 hours.Breakfast, burgers, lunch all the time. happy to have been hier!

Report Check-In

came for one night, stayed 240pppn but worth it especially in the heat as these are the shadiest campgrounds we have come across so far. beautiful view from the campsites onto the river and amazing dinner home cooked at night.

Report Check-In

Price has gone up again, now N$240 pppn. Seems they have made some improvements with replacing rotten wood panels in walkway and showers/loos. Not all the campsites are the same size and have a view of the river so pick carefully if you have the option, and unbelievably they are all the same price! Despite the priceyness we had a great time. The caged pool, outdoor showers, bar (draft on tap N$55) and opportunity for viewing game (2 lionesses hunting a baby pumba) on the other side of the river bank made it worth the 4k sandy track 2 up on a motorbike and stopping for 2 nights.

Report Check-In

Always enjoy this camp. Quirky and cool. Outside showers and toilets great . Nice campsites on the Okavango. Caged swimming pool in the river

Report Check-In

Paid NAD 440 for 2 people, 1 night. Might be required a 4x4 to get there. Great atmosphere in the reception, bar, restaurant, caged pool and terrace! They offer a big range of activities, but we did in our own. Need to book dinner in advance until 3pm.
Campsites can be a little bit far from reception, no wifi but MTC signal works. Spacious camp, electricity and own kitchen spot, by the river and full of hippos. Nice idea of open air showers, but the closest one had no lights at night, in general didn’t like the shared ablutions cause they were far.

Report Check-In

This is the second time we have stayed at Ngepi.....and we love it.......camp 6 right on the river with a fire pit, electricity, camp kitchen and amazing views across the river where we watched elephants, Buffalo, sable, impala, warthog, waterbuck, lion. The bathrooms are fab and quirky with solar powered outside showers amongst the trees, throne like toilets looking out over the river and even a donkey fired tin bath to soak in while you watch the animals. Friendly team, nice bar, decking and a restaurant if you want it. Firewood for sale, MTC signal is good, not great WiFi but it's free. We went into both parks as you only pay one fee for both per day.

Report Check-In

Great location with lots of shade. Was there last year and it seems like some TLC is needed. Electricity (solar so on and off at specific times) and braai on sites. Shared ablutions. Hot water with donkey. Free filtered water. Ate breakfast which wasn’t good. NAD210/p/p/n.

Report Check-In

After the amazing campsites elsewhere in Namibia we felt Ngepi is overrated. It might be fine for groups or families but for us it was too generic touristy whilst being a little worn out and need of some refreshing.

Report Check-In

Nicest Campsite I've stayed at in Africa :) The road was a bit of a mission with the motorcycle, because of the sand. Made it with out falling though and it was well worth it :)

Report Check-In

Beautiful place. It was easy to get to; the sandy road is fine. The campsite is very well equiped with quirky toilets and funny signs. You can buy wood and the bar is well-stocked. They make their own bread and good coffee. Donkey boilers; we bought our own wood and lit it. It took a while because the drum has 100 litres, so allow an hour or even 2 for the water to get warm.

We camped on the river and enjoyed watching wildlife on the other side of the river from the comfort of our campsite. At night we listened to the aound of hippos and got woken up by birds singing. We shared the sink with our neighbours.

Staff is great, wifi at the bar/restaurant with nice decks over the river. The new owner is ver friendly and helpful.

Ice and shopping at Shell or Choppies.

Ngepi Camp: highly recommended!

Report Check-In

We have stayed at Ngepi Camp, Ndhovu Safari Lodge and Nunda River Lodge during our time in the caprivi strip. Ngepi is quirky and the decor fun but we had no sinks at our site, the toilets were quite far to walk to (poopa falls felt v dangerous), the showers were cold and the wifi didn’t work. So for $220 pp it was overpriced. Nunda river lodge was by far the nicest of the 3 camps to stay at.

Report Check-In

Good stopover with nice camping spots along the river. Hot water is a donkey so none in the morning, but fine until sunset. WiFi did not work. Night animal activity is fantastic, lion, hippo and elephants throughout the night.

Report Check-In

20 pitches on the river. we saw hippos, lions, elephants, buffalo from our pitch !!!
small funny croc proof pool in the river. beautiful deck on the river. friendly staff.
hot shower, scullery. to be honest, we didnt come here for the campsite but for the wildlife !!!
free and slow internet at the reception but not at the campsite : just ok for whatsapp and yahoo.
we stayed 3 nights and we loved it : 5/5.
220 rands per people per night.

Report Check-In

Popular campsite. Good food and sunset cruise was a good one.

Report Check-In

Excellent lodge with nice grassy campsites. Sandy track to get there, but they made an easier route for the less adequate 4x4.. Last night I went on the sunset cruise and our guide had very good knowledge about the wildlife and birds around him. When he heard about a lion further up stream he didn’t mind extending the trip with another 30 minutes to give us a good time.
Ablutions are outdoor and in the bush, but clean! Take your torch when you have a “bushkak” at night!

Report Check-In

Spend 4 nights here with our 4yr old
son. One of a few campsites that we ran into other children too. He truly enjoyed his time here, so did we! Staff were really helpful, many nice activities and plenty of wildlife around. Plus many birds on the campsite. Ablutions starting to look a little tired.

Report Check-In

Very nice campsite. We paid for 3 nights 1080 NaD for 2 people. Campsite was huge with a nice view on the river. Electricity from 10am to 10pm. Nice „ kitchen“ area. Outside shower and toilet were nice although hot water did work only 1 day. Lots of game on the other side of the river and hippos just in Front of the campsite. Sometimes they come out of the water.

Report Check-In

Amazing campsite. Paid 180 NAD for a huge site right on the river with electricity, big campfire, light and kitchen sink.
The sites are grassy and level.
The bar and lounge is lovely. Drinks are cheap.
I really enjoyed the outdoor toilets and showers and do not agree that it's filthy as the last comment states.
Cool cage pool in the river.
Owners very involved in local community.
Lots of animals sightings on the river. Hippos right in front of my campsite. On the other side: buffalo, warthogs, kudu, waterbuck, impala and lots of birds.
Water not drinkable. Nearest shopping 10 kms away at Divundu.

Report Check-In

Quirky but fun. I don’t understand the negative reviews but this campsite is currently the number 2 favourite of ours in Southern Africa in the last 30 days. We enjoyed it and did not find it overpriced. We saw hippos from our campsite and warthogs across the river plus crocs so did not disappoint.

Report Check-In

Totally overrated and overpriced. It has a quirky and fun vibe, but the facilities are not up to scratch. The campsites do not offer much privacy and the ablutions - though quirky and outdoors - are filthy and not suitable for the number of people. They are famous for their crocodile pool, but I would skip this. More expensive than other luxury camping within <40km.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 2 nights in the tree houses. Seems run down and very expensive for what one gets. In need of serious maintainance. On the plus side the staff were great and really helpful and accommodating.

Report Check-In

Still our preferred option in Divundu. Nice spacious and private campsites with electricity, water and boma/braai platform. Quirky / Fun ablutions that makes you enjoy your shower time! Restaurant and bar fully stocked and wifi good. We had an issue with payment since the network was down and VISA machine did not work, also ATM in town was down. No bank details available on-hand for transfer…so we had to revert to our last USD for payment, however they only accepted notes not older than 2009 which left us a bit annoyed. But…we will be back:-)

Report Check-In

Really relaxed and fun campsite with lots of beautiful spots to camp along the banks of the Kavango river. Nice bar with draught beer and great decks to sit and look at the river from. Prices for activities, including the evening mokoro trip we did, seem reasonable. All the ablutions are open air, which isn't to everyone's taste but we enjoyed! You may need to ask them to turn on the hot water if you want it.

Report Check-In

Defnitily the best camp in namibia. Fantastic food, super shady campsites, lots of hippos & some fabulous sun decks.
Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

It's a very original, beautiful and fun place indeed! But there are some things to take into consideration if you want to spend a few days there. Electric plugs are shared between 2 campsites at a time so they are not necessarily located in a way that you can park your car with a rooftop nicely and recharge your fridge at the same time having a nice view of the river. Power is solar so it's only provided from 10am until 10pm. Shade provided by the trees are just partial (campsite 2) making it tough to bear the heat and the sun when it's 40°C temperature (check the photo to understand what I mean). The green grass part is blocked, no cars can park on it, so it can be a bit far when you're cooking closer to the river and have all the food stuff inside your car. The view is very nice but some campsites have relatively not much river view because of the bush. I don't understand why at reception they don't ask us to come and pick a campsite beforehand in order to avoid this kind of frustation specially when campsites are so different from one another. Conclusion : gorgeous place! But do a tour around to chose your spot before check-in at reception and you'll love it!

Report Check-In

Spent two nights in tree house 8 - would highly recommend the 3 course dinner for $200pp. We were able to plug our camper in at one of the campsites which was a huge help.
We felt that $2, 060/night was really expensive for the tree house - which is in need of some maintenance.

Report Check-In

Amazing campsites in the side of the Okavango River. Camp sites are separated from each other and each have a shady patch of grass, small fire pit and nearby ablutions (open roof) but with hot and cold running water and extremely well maintained.

Bar with cold beers and a swimming cage in the river make this an awesome place. They can also arrange Tiger fishing, river cruises, canoeing and game drives if you want.

At NAM$180 per person this place is an Oasis coming from the heat of Northern Namibia or Botswana.

Report Check-In

Phoned ahead for a camping place. Showers, toilets and washing area completely covered in half a foot of leaves, huge spider in the toilet (flush before use in bush environments) and at least 4 others in there, no effort to clean any of the campsites up before I arrived. Real snake risk.
Now dark, sounds of nature to fall asleep too - along with the boom, boom, boom of the music from the bar as the staff entertain themselves, customers all in chalets. Shut up, we want to sleep!
Even at a reduced but still expensive price of 120 I’ll find somewhere else tomorrow, run down, avoid.

Report Check-In

All as mentioned below in the review. Great funny place.

Report Check-In

We spent 42 days in this campsite during covid-19 lockdown and we would do it all over again. We couldn't have chosen a better campsite to do that. We have had all facilities we needed plus the most kind people to look after us during these strange times. Meke and Danny assisted us with food and medication delivery so we didn't even had to go to the shop. We enjoyed campsite no 5 and tree house no 12. We have had many encounters with hippos and on the last day we saw elephants on the other side of the river. Lions roar pretty much every night, in the park across the river. The national park nearby is worth a visit too. They have also run a covid-19 discount since lockdown ended.

Report Check-In

Really loved this place! It has much to offer. The reception has a funky bar, lots of character - the bar has a bit of a backpacker feel. There are many amazing views of the river - three sun decks on the water - one with some hammocks and couches, one with tables and all are great for sunset views. Also a cage pool in the river for swimming. There are hilarious signs everywhere - funky sense of humor - and the toilets and baths are honestly such a great part of it! Some loos look out to the river with a view, a silver bath tub on a platform overlooking the water, one loo is shaped like a throne. The campsites are all unique, but tend to have a bin, electricity,, a patch of grass, a view of the river, a hose pipe/tap and some have sinks and braii pits too. Number 6 was our fave - and number 4 has a big open patch of grass. Camping was 180 NAD if I’m correct, and they also have chalets and tree houses. You can do cruises and bird walks, and fishing, and you hear hippos in the evening. I think we got lucky with our wildlife as we saw an otter right at our camp, and heard a lion on our last morning. Buy the firewood too - it supports the local community. Foods good there:$ GO FOR IT!

Report Check-In

Nice sites near the river. Ablution blocks funny and toilet partially open to the bush. They use river water for the ablution blocks and say that there is no risk of Bilharzia, but I am not sure.

Report Check-In

If you want to swim with the crocs with a lesser chance of being muched, get yourself down to N’gepi camp town.

Campsite 22 is a wonderful camp; private, clean and the party zone for watching some crocs.

The bar area has got a backpackers vibe, so enjoy your time!

Report Check-In

Really nice place. Good vibe and nice camping place close to the river

Report Check-In

Nice sites by the river. Funny styled toilets and showers, WiFi only at bar/reception. Hot showers by means of solar power and donkey. We had hippos running around the car at night. Sites with braai stands and electricity. No tap. 160NAD app

Report Check-In

Excellent as we expected. We came here before in 2017 and were happy to return! Quirky bits and pieces, beautiful view over the river, on the opposite bank is a national park so it's full of wild life. Very friendly staff, free coffee in the morning - there is even a toilet with the best view ever! Would highly recommend!

Report Check-In

Was an OK stay. Didn't use the restaurant. Had campsite 21 which was nice but needs some clearing to get a good view of the river. Staff seemed clueless and WiFi did not connect. At 150N$ we expected a little more.

Report Check-In

Access road sandy, so difficult on a bicycle, but totally worth it! Campsite #6 is the best for a cyclist because there is a bench in front of the fireplace. Book ahead +26466259903.

Report Check-In

Such a cool place and very cheap! Place is big and you can just stay at your pitch with a wonderful view over the river. Showers and toilets are really quirky but very nice. A lot of effort has made this place what it is! One of the best campsites in 7 months of travel around Africa! 160N$ pppn. If you have time stop for a few days down the road at Mobola it’s another camping gem, so worth a stay.

Report Check-In

Still an amazing place. Price is now NAD 160 pp.

Report Check-In

Great camp, stayed at camp site 6 and had wonderful views of hippos and elephants in Kavango river, even had a hippo in camp the first morning. Free wifi, although at times a bit slow. Nice bar and burgers for lunch was tasty. N$170pp is a great price for what you are getting. Beautiful camp, will definitely return.

Report Check-In

Lovely sundowner boat tour, quiet, good food and nice staff, clean outdoor ablutions, price is 160 pppn. Hippos in arms
length here.

Report Check-In

Nice campsites next to the river, special ablutions, good vibe restaurant en bar, cage pool in the river between the hippo’s and crocs! Quiet night and had a good sleep, whish we had mor time to stay longer.

Report Check-In

We really liked this campground. They’ve a bar, kitchen, nice sitting areas, little cage pool where you can swim in the river and good Wifi.
For us it didn’t look like run down. Shower and toilet is clean.
The staff was very friendly too.
A huge group had a big party almost all night long but they told us it would be loud if we stay close to the bar what we did.
150.- pppn is good for this campground.

Report Check-In

Unfortunately have to agree with the others. This is also our second visit and somehow the place completely lost its appeal. When trying to check in the staff almost didn't even look up once. A lot of the camping setup doesn't make sense. Some pitches have massive areas of grass (which is very environmentally unfriendly, especially for a place claiming to be self sustainable), but you can't really 'use' the grass. They charge N$100 extra for parking on the grass, but they make it feel more like a fine than an additional service.

Report Check-In

Great place to chill for a few days. Perfect overlanders spot with some great staff and fun company :)

Report Check-In

More of a backpackers (like we would call it in South Africa) then just campsite but then for senior citizens. Ok bar, dinner to join which is not to be repeated as it was barely eatable for N$210, breakfast and lunch of the expensive menu but some great cabins, houses on stilts (which they call tree houses) and campsites. Some are really nice with river view with elephants across the river when I arrived. Good place to meet some people though and exchange stories but the place surely lacks vibe, staff looks miserable with their jobs and the food was pretty bad unfortunately. N$150 for camping is reasonable for me for the extra of some people to hang out with but one night is enough...and cook yourself!

Report Check-In

Totally agree with the review by Bryan Jones. We visited in 2014 and were looking forward to returning. Nothing has changed at all, but to some extent that is the problem. Everything is looking tired and a little run down, even the atmosphere seems to have gone. A lot of the jokes and fun signs just don’t work anymore (e.g. the bathroom with ‘unlimited view of the stars’ cannot deliver now that a tree canopy has grown to completely cover the view!). Has the potential to get back to where it was, but only if everything is refreshed, revamped and brought up to date. No longer worth the price tag (N150pppn), and there is definitely better value for money at other sites nearby.

Report Check-In

What has happened here at Ngepi, once voted the best campsite in southern Africa? At 150 N$ per night for camping, it is now outpriced by some other far better equipped and efficiently run sites close by, and the staff seem somewhat disinterested and bored with their jobs. The funky ablutions and corny signs are past their sell-by-date, and the track in, whilst no problem for most vehicles, is also annoying. Come on Ngepi, a spring clean is needed! Did we stay there this time? No, we spent our dollars elsewhere in a far nicer spot, but we would like to see Ngepi back up there with the best as it was first time we camped there some years back. See earlier entries for some similar sentiments.

Report Check-In

Large area with many camping places and tree houses. Nice shady places around the bar and sun deck. Beautifully situated toilets and bathrooms throughout the site, each decorated in a creative theme. Enjoyed an afternoon canoe trip to watch birds and hippos ($200pp). Camping ($150pppn). Restaurant OK, nothing special (dinner $200pp).

Report Check-In

I can't say that I agree with all these positive reviews. Sure, there are plenty of funny signs, the pool is very original and the ablutions are creative but that hardly outweighs the downsides if you ask me. Camping is 150N$ pppn, not good value IMHO. Pitches are very different in size and facilities. Most appear to be small, close together and only some have any facilities on the pitches, as far I could tell. No electricity, shelter, standpipe, braai stand, only a very small firepit on pitch 18 and at least some others. You have to pay an extra 100N$ to park on the grass! Otherwise, on a lot of pitches (like 19), you have to camp right next to the road. After complaining I got 18 which is practically a small, muddy patch under a big tree with no view on the river at all and no facilities.
The ablutions are funny but there are only 2 showers and 2 toilets for tons of people, which is not so funny. They told me that there is only hot water from late afternoon but there is no light in the showers so be there as early as possible! But if you value hot water and privacy, you might want to skip using the showers at all. Kids were constantly walking into the shower, the hot water ran out after the first few people and although the music is a nice touch it gets really annoying to hear the same tune over and over again if you camp nearby.
Lots of people also means lots of noise. Babies crying, kids running, people shouting. It felt like a common Dutch camping! Atmosphere was nothing to write home about. The night was very quiet though.
Dinner costs 160N$ for a buffet. Restaurant is nice. Food is simple but good.
Access road was easy and dry when I got there.
Don't try to pay in US dollar of euro because you get a horrible rate.
All in all I wouldn't have stayed if it wasn't late already.

Report Check-In

Great atmosphere, best toilets and shower ever, funny signs make you laugh. Very nice campsites, big and grassy, on the river bank. Hippos superclose.

Sadly no hippo when we visited :( still great site - over landers in abundance so great for information exchange.

Super cooles Camp am Okavango. Es gibt Campsites direkt am Fluss und eine Reihe dahinter. Es wirkt alles sehr organisiert mit einer coolen Portion Witz ;-) Weiterempfehlung!

Report Check-In

Really great campsite with lots of character, and friendly staff, 1% of bill goes to local projects, great views of river, lots of activities available if that's your thing. Food good but basic. Long drive down bumpy and sometimes flooded track but well worth it. Cost $140nad pp
