Something not right?

Description

This is a piece of BLM land northeast of the junction of San Joaquin Rd and W Ajo Highway. To the southwest of Tuscon. The area is accessed from the San Joaquin Rd and is criss-crossed with gravel tracks. It is fairly level and covered in small desert trees and bushes so it is possible to remain unseen from the adjacent roads if your vehicle is not too high. It is also possible to pitch a tent as there was one here at the same time as me. There are no facilities whatsoever and traffic noise can be heard from the Ajo 86 Highway. The use of the site is free.

Decent place to camp close to town. Plenty of room really to find a spot for the most part. Not going to have the place to yourself or anything like that, but it works. Fortunately homeless occupancy seems low here. There are some bags of trash and one abandoned camp I saw unfortunately. With limited free camping near Tucson it's fine.

Report Check-In

Stayed here two weeks. It's fine. Lots of hiking, monster Tmobile service, 20 min from Walmart and everything else you need. My only recommendation is that you park closer to old Ajo Road on the north side of the area and try to get away from Highway 86. This would make things a bit quieter.

Report Check-In

Came in at night. Entrance is a little bit hidden by the shrubs and some of the entrances are gated off so make sure you go slow and find the open area. A few people but you can easily find a spot. Make sure to clean up your spot!

Report Check-In

Pretty crowded. But it’s a little foot hill mountain on some blm land, so it’s free camping for 14days. The side closest to speedway is flat area for anyone to make it in. The other side is a little rougher. Great cell service and a speedway like two minutes away and a dollar general less than ten minutes. Nice little spot if you can find your own space.

Report Check-In

Good for a night, when your Google maps drops off just make the next right and watch for the dusty trail turn in. Busy, bumpy and some abandoned camps (trash) but fine. Better than a Walmart or cracker barrel.

Report Check-In

What you see is what you get. There are a few people here who appear to be in it for the long haul, as it were. Either people are being kinder and picking up after themselves or the area has been cleaned up recently, as there isn't really much trash to speak of. About 75% RVs and van lifers and 25% car camping/tents. There didn't appear to be obvious dispersed camping on the north side of the road, even though it is BLM as well.

Report Check-In

Very crowded, trash everywhere. Mostly quiet after 8:00 pm. Ok in a pinch.

Report Check-In

Busy here but we found space for our van. We’re using this as an overnight in between visiting a couple of National Park Service sites. 2 bars of Verizon. Young adults hooping and hollering to music until around 11 PM. Then just a small amount of highway noise.

Report Check-In

Nice place to spend the night and more quiet than the BLM land on the other side of the hill, as it is further from the busy road.

You literally can't miss it, as there are tons of campers set up there. I would say that at least 80 other RV's, trailers and vans were parked in the area, when we arrived in the late afternoon.

There's a gas station just down the road and if you a little further towards east there is a McDonald's and a Circle K; both have restrooms. The gas from Circle K was a little cheaper when we were there.

Report Check-In

Been here for 8 days, perfect for activities in Tuscon. Lot of possibility to camp. Some parts like north side of Snyder hill have garbage back on the ground. Here on the west side not so bad, but lots of broken glass but very small pieces, won't cut dog paw.
Many owners don't pick there dog excrements.

Report Check-In

Free camping site for 14 days or less. A lot of places. No water, sewer or power services. we are here since 4 days and all is ok for us.

Report Check-In

good area to quick camp for one or 2 nights with errands in tuscon. didn't find as much garbage and trash as people described and drive around the whole place. came on Saturday really busy, but found a good spot with high bushes so we were pretty private. road noise was a bit annoying but that's what you get in the city. overall would stay again if needed around tuscon

Report Check-In

Normaly a good und big area. Unfurtunatelly very dirt and many glass trash. 1-2 bar AT&T.

Report Check-In

Nice spot to camp! Some trees enough for shade and quiet. Felt safe and was clean.

Report Check-In

Stayed here 2 nights and felt safe enough. There's a bazillion rigs here, but still space to squeeze in. Some trash, road noise and dogs roaming around - but all manageable for a spot right outside the city. 2-3 bars LTE Verizon.

Report Check-In

Very disappointing area. A lot of trash and some that have made their home here. All walks of life here…. Very iffy not welcoming! Go to Walmart for a better experience. Half star rating …. Place to hold up for the night!

Report Check-In

Blm camping. No amenities. Large sites, road is a bit bumpy and could use a grater. Sort of busy and road traffic is close to my site.

Report Check-In

so many spots, with ability to fit any type of vehicle. I have a stealth van and was able to escape the massive herd of people in large RVs. very busy this time of year but still plenty of available spots.

also tons of trash though. looks like people would make camp and just leave their stuff. :(

Report Check-In

Great BLM site. Tons of buses, RVs and some vans but not noisy at all. Easy access to Tuscon and Saguaro National Park. Clean and well taken care of.

Report Check-In

Dispersed camping no services excellent cell service

Report Check-In

Very chill spot here on BLM south of Tucson proper. A lot of RVs, buses and vans this time of year (February) but no issues. Some road noise, generators and fire dept down road. 14 day limit beautiful view.

Report Check-In

lots of people but plenty of room for everyone and still relatively quiet.

Report Check-In

First time but not the last.
If stay in center, No highway noise.
Always can find spot. Even busy.

Report Check-In

Really fast T-Mobile and Verizon 5G. Don’t miss sunset from the top of Snyder hill.

Report Check-In

Lots of trash, but definitely welcomes all walks of life, which was nice to see. Lots and lots of people, but to be excepted so close to the city. Not very private. Go on the north side of the road if you want more privacy; south areas for more lively. Road noise was minimal, gunshots a plenty.

Report Check-In

it is no too bad, noisy from Highway, road, neighbours, little dirty, in our point of view ok for 1-2 nights

Report Check-In

Wow it’s been few years I come here and what a change, very good clean up has been done. Not too crowded..

Report Check-In

Lots of trash. Close to food, laundry and Tucson. chipmunks(or something), bunnies, hawks, military planes. Verizon/ Visible signal is great. some dogs off leash. some friendly campers. ranger in a jeep passed through and I hope the trash doesn't get it closed down.

Report Check-In

good place near Tucson. A bit noisy with traffic. 14 day limit

Report Check-In

It's the closest BLM camping to Tucson, so expect it to be busy. With that said, plenty of room for everyone. Some spots are full of trash, but we found a clean site. We stayed 1 week. No, it's not a glamorous place to camp, but if you need access to Tucson, it's a great place for that. You can be in the middle of downtown in 20 minutes.

Report Check-In

Like others have said, quite busy - but good, flat spots and good cell service with T-Mobile. Appears to be some trails (more like paths) on Snyder Hill that you can walk which is good for pups. Super filthy though, garbage everywhere, people left their old transmission fluid, pan, and bottles. Sad :(

Report Check-In

VERY CROWDED. If there were more options for overnight parking in Tucson then I'd go there. There is a lot of glass and garbage. The highway traffic can be heard, but didn't bother us. Fine place to sleep for a night, but not the kind of peaceful blm experience we like.

Report Check-In

Nice enough for being close to the city. We stayed for 3 nights as we took care of some business in Tucson. Some road noise but to be expected in the city. Plenty of room for lots of rigs. Easy in and out with our 40 foot fifth wheel. Quite a bit of trash around but you can tell some people are trying to take care of it.

Report Check-In

Busy place, very good cell reception. For the off roader possible to drive to the top of the hill.

Lots of broken glass everywhere, however.

Report Check-In

As everyone else said, extremely crowded. Still, flat spots and perfectly located by Saguaro West and Tucson Mountain Park which has great hiking for dogs.

Report Check-In

So many people!!!! Definetely not your quiet Blm. Still easy to find a spot.

Report Check-In

Good spot for Boondocking in Tucson, nothing Special about it.

Report Check-In

Always a good free place to stop on outskirts of Tucson. Lots of people here now, but still plenty of space left. Climbed the hill and counted 38 rigs on the W side and 15 on the E. Good T-Mobile service here now.

Report Check-In

Nice location by Tucson. We arrived on a Saturday night around dusk and found a good spot further away from others in the side by the Ajo highway. Most rigs gathered on the side by 86 and there were some loud generators. Quite a few people here but it was chill by us. The satellite view on Google maps is helpful to find a spot. We have a 2wd Promaster and had no problems navigating it. Apparently there's a gun range close. Thankfully our dog is not scared but I thought I'd mention it. We didn't see a host - didn't talk to anyone, actually. Not exactly a beautiful spot but the location is great.

Report Check-In

Big rambling BLM spot to camp. Lots of level places for big and small alike. LOTS of different rigs in here, my Sprinter got in easily enough. Off a hwy but quiet enough to have a peaceful nights sleep. Spent two nights here, felt safe.

Report Check-In

Nice spot to stay for a bit. Lots of other campers here, almost like staying at an rv park. But that makes it feel a little safer? Maybe.

Report Check-In

Nice enough spot for the night, lot's of people.
It was quiet and clean.

Report Check-In

Very large BLM camp around a hill that could be hiked. Roads a bit rough very muddy after heavy rains, if you have a low vehicle or trailer you will definitely drag. Check your satellite map for pull ins, definitely day time arrival. We parked and then walked around to find a good spot. Lots of people about, all kinds (RV. van lifers, car camping, a few tents) of people who are very friendly. Beautiful views.
Make sure you have lots of water and your own devices for bathroom, it's just a big place to park. Signs everywhere with standard BLM rules.

Report Check-In

BLM land. Roads are loose gravel and sand. Close to town. Bi rig friendly but it is bumpy.

Report Check-In

Not a bad spot. Quite a number of places for tents and R.Vs, including big rigs. Some shady spots. A little road noise but nothing to worry about.

Report Check-In

Super busy this weekend but still lots of space available! Hard to manouver at night! No real spaces just lots of room to park.
If you have a low to ground vehicle or trailer drive slow as you will drag in spots.

Report Check-In

Huge BLM campground. Lots of places to park and camp for large RVs or tents. Roads in are dirt and gravel, pretty good shape, and all kinds of vehicles are in here. Probably be very sticky and muddy after a rain. Many campers here, but still plenty of room to find a spot.
Some entrance roads to sites are in better shape than others. Tricky to find a good entrance in the dark, much easier to navigate and find space in the daytime. Decent roads to come in off Old Ajo Hwy. there is a good gravel road behind the fire station, but lots of road work there right now so not as accessible.
No services, some fire rings at sites, very little shade so vehicles are in sun and heat up. Great for those solar panels! Some traffic and generator noise but seemed plenty quiet 12AM-8AM

Report Check-In

BLM free camping. fourteen day rules, no toilets, no water, no electricity nothing. nothing for the yuppies.

Report Check-In

Great place to stay close to Tucson. Lots of camping, for rigs big or small. Busy place, but everybody has been quiet and respectful. Good amount of road noise, but that’s the price you pay for free camping 20 minutes from town.

Report Check-In

Huge places with many options for camping. Any size vehicle or tent campers can find a space. Pretty busy though and fairly close to the road so you can still hear traffic. Convenient location nonetheless (less than 30 min from Tucson). Free, no amenities.

Report Check-In

This is our second time here. Nice and quite people are friendly little road noise. We came back after going in to BAJA MEXICO. We really like it. you are not to far from everything.

Report Check-In

Currently there is highway construction going on on two sides of the area.
Dusty, noisy, pretty crowded, legal, free. Generators running all night. Okay for a night.

Report Check-In

Nombreux emplacements. Beaucoup de monde

Report Check-In

Le bourdonnement de la route n'est pas gênant.

Report Check-In

came in at dark. Found spot no problem.

Report Check-In

Near old tusco studios and saguaro national park west. A lot of place for evry one...

Report Check-In

Free BLM camping. No services, highway traffic can be heard.
