Description

Great campground with very few people. When we were here the campsite had only been open for two months. All Sites have electricity, running water, lights and views into the bush. Ablutions are clean, but showers can be cold. We paid N$ 250 per person to camp for the night. The watering hole is a great place to see animals.

Latest Check-Ins

920 per night for a campsite with 2 people sounds pricey for the campsites and slightly rundown ablutions but the hide at the waterhole is amazing and worth it. downstairs you are at water level which is a once in a lifetime scenery when the animals come in for a drink at night.

Report Check-In

to me the best campsite in etosha. the facilities are light but it's so much more quiet than in Okaukuejo (i hated it). the waterpole is amazing, you're in a little tower at the centre of the waterpole so you can see the animals from very very close (i took the best pictures of etosha from here). We saw 20 éléphants with babies at night and then they came back in the morning and stayed playing in the water for 3 hours. We saw zebras, gnous, 2 lions, hyenas, springboks. Few people in this side of the etosha Park, so quiet compared to the really busy east side of the Park. i loved it !

Report Check-In

waterhole is really nice, but campsites are very light. picnic tables at entry are actually more friendly and with more shade ! card payment was not working, had to pay cash. no booking in advance done, 3 spots remaining. staff is very nice, they stored some of our food in their fridge, plugged our European chargers, warned us when big herd of elephants was coming etc...

Report Check-In

Far too expensive - much work need to be done, but obviously nobody seems to be responsible. Electricity (and lights) did not work; out of 4 water tabs, three (3) were out of order! Lights in Showers were not operating! A typical State owned campground - either you pay these ND 920 or you decide going on; a decision which is not that easy…

Report Check-In

We sleep two times there, 2 different weeks.
Each time we see Rhino between 22h and 23h.
And elephants around 20h at night.
Amazing !

Report Check-In

Small campground inside Etosha National Park. Clean ablutions, but overpriced. No other choice if you want to be in the park… very nice waterhole - we saw a lot without having to leave camp. Sunsets are magnificent. Also good for big overlanding trucks such as ours.

Report Check-In

We spent one night here, very exo expensive but we could see 2 lions in the morning (8.30am) and we could ear elephants drinking. Incredible. The waterhole is incredible so a large vew!

Report Check-In

Best campsite in Etosha. And the hide on the waterhole is brilliant. We were lucky enough to see 3 herds of elephants meet up there when we arrived and three rhino later in the evening. Watched the elephants walk past us on the other side of the fence from our campsite.

Report Check-In

Its a nice place for camping inside Etosha. As every camping inside is more expensive since are not private ones. Its very safe and has nice facilities. The best part is definitely the water hole (we got luck and saw elephant and also two lions at night).
The only point that really needs improvement are the showers (full of mosquitos) and when I used there was no hot water, but there is hot water on camping so its worth talking on reception.
There is also a small shops with drinks.

Report Check-In

We stayed here on in journey from west to east of Etosha. Chosen mainly because of location. Friendly welcome. Each site has access to electricity and the ablutions were clean. Showers were powerful and hot, however we didn’t feel the facilities matched up to the N$416 ppn we paid. A bit of updating needed and each site is close together - although fully respect we were camping in a national park!

Report Check-In

Good place to stay. Ablutions clean, water in the evening hot. Unfortunately nothing to see at the waterhole

Report Check-In

Had a lovely stay here, even though there was not much action at the hide. Enjoyed the fact that the camp has only 10 campsites - so, it does not feel commercialised. Both staff members were very helpful and friendly.

Report Check-In

Olifantsrus was the first campsite we visited in etosha. The lady at the reception was very impolite and rude. We felt that we did something wrong and asked her. She did not give us an answer to our question. So our first impression of this campsite was very bad.

The site itselfs would be nice but it needs a lot of maintenance. The viewpoint at the waterhole is very nice. We did not see any animals due to heavy rainfalls.

We felt that the camp is totally overpriced. We paid over 400 NAD pppn.

Report Check-In

This place is all about the amazing waterhole+hide! Wow! Floating walkway towards the hide that offers many great angles on wildlife…even flood lit at nightS The closest we have ever been to a Rhino and Elephant also frequent. Lions roared almost the entire night. The place has a sad history, but makes for a pleasant visit and very interesting/informative information centre. Ablutions clean and campsite has electricity, water and even a canopy for cover from the sun. We paid ND460 for the campsite (max. 4 people) as part of SADC special.

Only negative: the wifi was good but completely absorbed by the staff that were watching videos almost the whole day. We are definitely not there for the wifi and you cant blame them for using it; but it was annoying!

Report Check-In

good camp, with facilities to look animals. we saw a rhino on thé evening.
Price very high, WE paid 400 ppn (réservation on internet).
good wifi

Report Check-In

Very good campsite overall. Prices now 362 pp/pn.
Hot water, shade, clean and built good.
They can always put you on the day visitors area if you ask nicely and some spots even have power point.
The sites themselves share power points and you can ask for a long cable for a deposit.
The waterhole is fine. It's red light, and built close by. But hard to keep quite and you can't see the whole waterhole at night from one place you need to move always.

Report Check-In

After 2 months traveling in Africa I must say this was the biggest disappointment of our trip until now. We had been to Olifantsrus 4 years ago and had a bad memory of this place but with all the enthusiastic reviews on ioverlander we decided to give it another chance. Campsite is nothing special, not much shade, but ablutions are good and clean. The hide platform to watch animals from so close looks amazing and that's the reason we came both times. The thing is, you must be really lucky to actually see animals in this waterhole. We stayed there waiting from 3pm until 8pm and there wasn't a single soul passing to drink, not a springbok, a zebra, nada! And we are at the driest month which is the best time for wildlife sightings in Etosha. If you want to camp here to be able to explore this region of Etosha then come, just don't have high hopes on seeing something fabulous at the Olifantsrus waterhole. After 10 days in Etosha I can say for sure that in all waterholes there would be animals at least every 30 minutes coming and going. In Halali we saw 1 leopard, 40 elephants, 7 lions, 3 hyenas and 9 rhinos in less than 2 hours for example. So if you don't have much time in the park, give priority to either Halali or Okaukuejo. Yes there's more people, but in Olifantsrus you are just as close to other campers as in the other Camps, no privacy. No MTC network (for internet and calls).

Nice quiet campsite. Staff friendly- Charmaine is great! Waterhole not too busy, elephant, zebra only. Saw rhino, giraffe, hartebeest, steinbok, wildebeest, zebra, blackbacked jackal on the Dolomite drive. NAD 400 per site. Clean ablutions. Had 3 scorpions in the camp when braaing, black one, green one and not sure on the 3rd one!!! Wear your BIG shoes at night!!

Report Check-In

Nice campsites with braai areas and sunshades. Quite nice facilities, especially for NWR. Really nice hideout. Could use some better lights in the night but still awesome to see the animals that close.
Electricity at sites.

Report Check-In

NAD 100 per person
ablutions are clean, not much shade but very hot.
Hide out is very nice, directly at the water hole. Elephants, oryx and much more

Report Check-In

Paid 100 NAD pppn, covid-19 deal. Campsite is very basic and only a few plug points and taps to share with others. Power seemed to have been on the whole time. Ablutions clean but very basic, shower heads need unblocking. As everyone said, the hide definitely makes it worth staying there. We saw a herd of elephants at sunset, drink from the waterhole just below the hide's deck. Amazing experience This campsite feels less commercial than Okaukuejo.

Report Check-In

Very basic but nice and not crowded as the other camps in the park. Very welcome team. Electicity only 06:00-10:30 and 18:00-22:00

Report Check-In

remote place. Bad roads to get in, no electricity and no water on each campsite, not really well maintained ablutions and kitchen but friendly staff, very nice hideout for the waterhole.

Report Check-In

Paid $778 p2pn
Nice hide and friendly staff

Report Check-In

Prices for 2020: 389 per person (2019 still 350 pppn). The best campsite in Etosha without a doubt - book it! It’s getting popular: we visited before high season and could only get 2 nights. The hide is exquisite - it could be at 5-star lodge. Be sure to go there after dark, you won’t be disappointed! We saw many rhinos there and at lower level you’re just a couple of meters from them (behind the glass). Waterhole is lit with red light.

They don’t have a restaurant, just a small kiosk selling snacks. Two campsites share a water tap & powerpoint (so you might need an extension cord if your site doesn’t have the plug, they are rented at the reception). Be sure to visit Jakkalswater water hole, many frequent cool sightings there (lions, honey badger...) - and have a luch in Dolomite Camp with stunning views!

Report Check-In

Schöner kleiner Platz mit einer tollen Aussichtsplattform.

Report Check-In

Useful to know you can stay in the day visitors area if the camp is full.

Report Check-In

Camping is now 350 N$ pppn.
They Camp has 10 campspots (plus the overflow). So it’s not so busy as the other NWR Camps of Etosha.

If you need electricity, bring an extension cable. Some campspots are not close by to the electric points.

The platform is fantastic! The elephants love the fresh water <3

The hide out is fantastic

Report Check-In

Nice site, new in 2014. Way overpriced at N 350 per person per night, even worse than the other NWR sites in Etosha that were 300 pppn. It is too bad they can’t put more of that money into improving the roads.

Report Check-In

Amazing campsite! Tranquil and quiet, with an absolute gorgeous hide next to a man-made waterhole. Small kiosk and information center telling you a bit more about the campsite’s macabre history. Sadly there were not a lot of action at the waterhole during our stay. Neat ablutions with solar heated hot water (shower early in the late afternoon) with dishwashing and handwash laundry facilities

Report Check-In

nice water hole near Camp site. not much shade. 310 p.p.

Report Check-In

Nice place to make a break, eat something light in the kiosk and continue through Ethosa.

no animals in the waterhole when we passed by...

Report Check-In

Awesome and quite Campground with real Safari Feeling. Way smaller and better than Halali. Had no Reservation and of course they were booked out so they placed us in the Overflow Area (no disadvantage over the normal Parcel). 280 NAD pppn. The Waterhole and Hide were awesome. We saw a Rhino and an Elephant at Night. Awesome Views from the Hide around the flat Savanna. With the remote Location and Electric Fence we really felt like Jurassic Park ;)

Report Check-In

Had a great stay. Saw a black rhino at the watering hole, which the ranger kindly told us about in time to walk over there.
Ablutions good and clean.
Definitely a lot better than Halali.
Just a bit expensive at 280N$ pp per night

Report Check-In

Really nice place to stay. We were in the over flow which was as nice, if not better than the main site. Overflow has picnic tables used by the day visitors. Electricity point also as well as braai. Showers are nice, only two per gender. Hot water. Shop stocks drinks and some food. Amazing owe point, 50m across a walk way right next to the watering hole!! Worth the money for that alone! 500 for 2 (plus park fees on top). We didn't book but it may be worth doing, was full and use of the overflow.

Report Check-In

Very nice place since 2014 All is very new and very well maintained. You can visit the illuminated waterhole all the night long (Rhinos & Elefants).
You should book in advance otherwise there is a 8 place overflow.
There is no network for mtc

Report Check-In

Place was used in the past as abatoir for elephants. Sandy terrain with canopies for shadow. Few trees. New place, nice ablutions. Waterhole next to camp.
NAD 500 (2 adults, camper).

Report Check-In

In our opinion the best campsite in the park, much smaller area and none of the bustle, very friendly and service minded receptionist, the highlight is the wooden walkway to a large hide directly at a waterhole, we saw plenty of game including 7 lions, pitches have braai stands

Report Check-In

Great campground with very few people. When we were here the campsite had only been open for two months. All Sites have electricity, running water, lights and views into the bush. Ablutions are clean, but showers are solar heated and can be cold. We paid N$ 250 per person to camp for the night plus park entry fees. The watering hole is a great place to see rhinos at night.
