Description

Free. Little flat space next to a little restaurant. Maribel runs the place. From here you could walk to the local hot springs. Amazing views of the snow capped mountains nearby if skies are clear in the morning, this is also when horses come together bringing the cows milk.

After the Termas, being late, I stayed overnight.
Very friendly guys.
No cell coverage at all.

biketraveller: i arrived and the owener told me it's not anymore possible to pitch the tent. after a while I told him that I would like to visit the termales and my legs are too tired. so he accepted me to pitch my tent behind the house. when I came back after the termals he even allowed me to sleep in a room in a bed. he was very kind, serving me some food and drinks. he prefers that people call him and reserve a bed: 3235846667 Daney (no internet, so normal call).

We spent the night here. It costs us 10.000 COP per person. The guy was incredibly friendly. It was really nice except for the really cold temperatures at night. Beautiful views.

Great place to camp before heading into the thermals. We drove down to the hot springs but got stuck bunch of times trying to come back up and eventually had to get pulled up by another car. Do not drive down if you do not have four wheel drive it’s not worth the trouble! Hiking down would have been the better choice and up. Hot springs are the best we have been to!

Report Check-In

10,000 to pitch, 10,000 for the springs.

Similar experience to others: was discouraged from going past the entrance. Pitched on the hill above the shop and road. Nice spots, beautiful views, slightly visible from the top road. Dropped below 0C, be prepared for that and rain.
Springs are stunning, highly recommended. Try to avoid on the weekend when there seem to be lots of tour trucks.
Roadworks around at the moment which means delays at stop-go points but the road itself is mostly great.

it should cost nothing to street parking next to the entrance! yes u can drive down as others and me did! the guy at entrance can be a bit of a D! made me wait an hourto give way for a truck to come up and than it came the other way! anyeay the place is fantastic.just beware water burns in your eyes!

Now costs 10pp for camping and 10pp for the entrance to the hot springs too. Road in is undergoing major works and in a good condition. Currently the last 3km are a bit rough but doable in any vehicle. The road to the hot springs too looks fine, we wished we had driven down!

we slept next to the house. super beautiful views of thr volcano and the mountains. Highly recommend the hot springs, the most beautiful ive seen in South America.

Not recommended without 4x4. We broke some parts of our car on the extremely bumpy and muddy road. No one was around at el sifon but toilet was open, we left some coins for them. The place is amazing, beautiful view of the volcano, awesome thermales (40 minutes down, 1 hour up). Loved this place, if you have a reliable vehicule definitely go, don't bother with paying entrance fee to the national park, they won't let you stay overnight anyway and not a chance with dogs.

we don't sleep here, but the road to El Sifon is amazing, great easy 4x4 road with stuning view of the park.

many possibility to stop and explore.

there is hotspring (1,2km), but didn't test it because of the cloudy weather

Parked and camped right in front of the small mountain home of Maribel. We drank agua panela con queso and played hide and seek with her cute son Sebastian. The views are epic. Be prepared for a cold cold night at 13,350 feet. The drive is beautiful. 10,000 for the two of us for the night.

Not free anymore but still cheap - 10k a night (2 people). The conditions of the actual campsite are not so pretty - you're camping 10ft from the pig pen and there is chicken and sheep droppings everywhere - but the views *are* incredible. And, yes, you can most definitely see the snow-capped mountain of El Ruiz. It was fogged in by 8am, though, so you gotta be up early. Super cold at night. (And for 1k you can buy a cup of fresh cows milk from Maribel - so delicious!)

Nice place to stay but you definitely can't see the white cape summit of the volcano from here even if the sky is clear. Just the smoke.

Its a beautifull drive from Armero through the cute little village Murillo into the National Park.It is exactly as the otheres wrote... In the morning there are some farmers coming with their horses to bring the milk. Its an amazing view up there if the sky is clear. If you want to warm your self up with a aguapanela ask Mirabel and also which way you take for the hot spings. The vulcano was active at the moment so the National Park was closed except for a 5km route which you were only allowed to take by car

Report Check-In

Bealtiful view. 30 minuts walkink to hot springs. Very cold during the night. Hot shower if you want, ask Maribel.

El Sifon is a small place where the cattle farmers gather early morning with their horses carrying milk canteens to be dispatched in a truck to the nearby town of Manizales. The best time to be here is early morning. Arrive in the afternoon, walk to the hot springs or up the vulcano. The place is run by Maribel, a nice woman that likes to attend travelers. She has a room she rents out, or she will let you park. She has a small store for supplies, and will make you "aguapanela" if you ask for it. Bring warm clothes temperatures go below 0 C
