Description

Tucumcari Municipal Park has a dirt parking lot and is good for one nights stay close to I40/Route 66. The park has been recently transformed into a disc golf course - so bring a frisbee disc and play a little. It used to be a water park or something like that - the ruins of the pool and buildings can still be seen.
The entrance is a bit funny, there are no signs or anything and there is an animal fence and gate around it - it looks as if you were entering a farm, but in fact it's a public park.
I would not recommend it for big rigs, because the entrance is a bit rough and steep.

"Park" might imply more than you find here. Dirt Parking lot is closer to the truth. NO services (trash, porty potty, water) Frisbee course is derelick. Some highway and train noise. flat area. Dog enjoyed chasing ball here which wasn't gonna happen at any of the truck stops

there a chain that lock you from getting away from the road and highway. i just went to play disk golf and found that. see pic

The place is really nice. There's a little road noise, but it's not bad at all. We got here in the dark and didn't really know where to park, but we found a nice level spot. Since it's a disk golf course, there's plenty of room for a dog to roam.

Nice little park. Wind covered the sounds of the highway. Not many people coming or going.

Report Check-In

Large area at the entrance that just about anything can turn around in, just don’t go exploring all the dirt roads unless you have some good ground clearance. Roads in the park get tight and will scratch your rig. They are also rutted out because it looks like the locals play in the mud when it rains.

Camped overnight in a roof top tent with no problems. Right at the entrance is a large open lot that is really flat.

If you came here thinking it would be quite 150 yards from the interstate and 300 yards from railroad tracks, you should question everything in life.

There were a couple of garbage cans and an old picnic table to use. Didn’t play disc golf but the course looked nice.

This is the noisiest place we have ever tried to sleep. It is non-stop traffic and trains. One of the worst places due to noise. Do not recommend. Strong Verizon signal. Decent walking trails. OK for dogs, but beware of sand spurs in the paws.

Great spot! A few miles off of the interstate exit but easy enough to get to. We could hear people shooting off in the distance but there was no one else here which was nice. Road noise from interstate but still slept fairly well

Report Check-In

Decent little spot, no pit toilet right now. There isn't any no camping signs, or posted park hours. Fairly level dirt lot

As described. Definitely some highway noise but the course is really cool. Even without a frisbee, it’s worth taking a stroll.

What a cool spot! We parked by the old pool and did out workout and made lunch. people came and went... no one bothered us. Did not stay the night but I can imagine with all the graffiti... it might be cured by... well people that do graffiti. lol

Great course but very windy! Love the 2 tees per hole. If u can play when it's not as windy I bet it would be awesome. Beware the rattlesnakes!

Basic parking spot, picnic tables, poo poo room. Very quiet & no one bothered us! Graffiti on the old pool was great for quick insta shoot lol. Also had 3bars LTE with T-Mobile
