absolutely gorgeous. 6-8 rigs but it was plenty big. stayed in my Forester for the night. open space means you can see the storms coming in and finish dinner quickly

Report Check-In

Right across from trail head where there are pit toilets. Great wide clearing for various campers and rigs. Were several groups here but still felt we had our space. Gorgeous views of the mountains. Slight hum of traffic off road but slows after dark. No service. But there are fire rings. Several trials around in all trails as well. No awd / 4x4 necessary.

Nice open area with a few fire pits. Maybe 12 other people spending the night here with us, but still felt like we had okay space but not really any privacy. Good level ground for us to camp in our Bronco. Any car could easily camp here. Quiet and pretty. One of the nicest pit toilets I’ve ever been to right across the road. D

Arrived late to Matterhorn Campground and no spots were left. Host recommend this spot only a few miles down the road. Nice open area with terrific views. Plenty of different spots to accommodate large and small vehicles. Terrain varies so be sure to find a spot that is flat enough for your liking. Decent number of people staying nightly or for few days. Everyone was super friendly and courteous. Noise from the road lessened after 10 pm. A short walk across the road is the trailhead that has well maintained toilets. Safe, comfortable, and beautiful. Highly recommend.

It was really hard to find the turnoff to this place in the dark. It's directly across from the Lizard Head trailhead entrance. The dirt road in is rough, but you don't need a 4x4. Basic primitive site. No pit toilets, but there's one across the street at the trailhead.
