Description

Auto mechanic. Tires, suspension, brakes, alignment, clutch.

Phone: 613-135-1648
Open 8am-7pm Monday-Friday, 8am-3pm Saturday

We blew out the strut mount cushions/bushings and/or retainer washer (or it was never installed 4000mi. previously by the mechanic in the US) on our '98 4Runner just south of Loreto. Stopped at Frenomex at 9:30 Monday morning and they had the strut pulled and reinstalled with two new cushions/bushings and a new retainer washer in about 30min. Cost was $380mxn. (including the minimal cost of parts). The original cost of labor to install the new strut (equivalent amount of work) in California was on the high end at $200usd.

I would NOT recommend Frenomex. I damaged my front end sway bar driving the sometimes horrific roads here and could not continue my travels south so read about Frenomex on iOverlander and showed up at their shop yesterday morning requesting an appt. One of the mechanics took a look a quick look and recognized the problem immediately. He said that they were too busy that day to deal with it so I asked him if they could do the repair 'manyana'. I was hoping that, being stranded as I was they would look after what was really a minor repair in order to help out a traveller like me either the next day or perhaps within the next several days or so.

His supervisor came out to see what was going on and the mechanic asked him if they could fit me in sometime within the next few days. He, the supervisor turned around, shook his head 'no' and just walked away, leaving me and the mechanic a little stupefied and me stranded. The mechanic then pointed across the road to another, similar outfit and recommended I speak with them about the repair. I drove over to 'Tersa' and again had one of their mechanics take a look at my sway bar. His response was "no problemo, come back in two hours and we will fit you right in." Two hours later I showed up, drove into their maintenance bay and the mechanic I spoke to got right on the job. 40 minutes later the sway bar was repaired and I happily continued my travels. Total cost: $50 usd. Awesome service by a very professional outfit!

Got a new idler arm put in. They were great to work through us using google translate while we asked about doing work. This took a couple trips as we could not get the shocks we wanted at autoparts store but we did have them put in an idler arm. The were knowledgable about what we wanted and our concerns and got the job done on time. $800 pesos for idler arm install on our class C RV.
Lots of other customers there - mostly locals, working on all kinds of cars.

They don’t speak English and part names here can be different (not called an idler arm here) so bring your google translator and know your part names.

Yesterday we got new front brake pads for 150$MXN + parts.
Went back today to get the rear drum brake pads and brake bleed 200$MXN + parts.

they don't speak English but they had Google Translate ready when we walked in. We also brought in our own parts from AutoZone just up the road.
They did a good job. I'd go back if I needed anything done.

These guys didn’t even look at me during the 20 minutes I sat in their office. I’m out.
