4WD recomended for places down by the river but not needed if you stay somewhere on top.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Would not recommend. Have been traveling for four months and this was the first night I felt unsafe. Trash everywhere. Sketchy cars driving past us all night. One truck pulled in around 1 and was very loud and destructive. Woke up in the morning and the guy had ran over the porta potty.
Report Check-InAwesome spot right by the water. Quiet at night and no one bothered me even the family that seems to be permanently living in there but by the water. I got there around 5 and there lots of people fly fishing but still no one said anything to me so I stayed and it was perfect.
Report Check-InA bit windy at this spot, but more sheltered spots to the east. This is Yurok land, always best to check in at Tribal Headquarters in town first. People friendly if you respect their lands.
Report Check-InThe riverbank and surrounding trails cover a huge area, it could fit hundreds of overlanders if necessary. I was the only one there last night. Beautiful, and absolute silence at night. No wind either. Recommended.
Report Check-InThis place looked like a wasteland when we arrived. Tons of ratty tents and rednecks with trash everywhere. People were generally taking advantage of the land, and i’m sure if the natives saw the state of the area they would restrict access. If you’re contributing to the classless mess down there you should be ashamed of yourself. We have stayed in some sketchy areas but this was pretty inhabitable when we came today. THERE ARENT MANY GOOD FREE AROUND!! don’t ruin things for everyone, most spots in Humboldt county are already closed. Grow up and be respectful of the land
Report Check-Ingreat spot, quite a few turn offs that get you privacy with the river. hung out for 2 days relatively undisturbed. a few cars and trucks here and there , nothing crazy. luckily minimal gun fire and litter. Rocky, unpaved roads but made it fine in my 2wheel drive camper van.
Remember: this is the traditional land of the Yurok People. Be Respectful.
Traveler's Karma: leave the land better than you found it, so your children may find better lands.
Report Check-InThe reservation is currently closed. Please respect wishes of the locals.
Report Check-InThis place is wonderful, so please be respectful. It is Yurok (Indian) land and they can limit access if they feel it is being abused.
Report Check-InGreat spot! Beautiful and quiet. One other van here. No problem accessing in our 21 foot class C. No 4x4 needed to go down by the river, just a few soft sand spots that are easily avoidable. Awesome find!
Report Check-InThe roads down to the river are mostly gravel with some sand. We easily made it down to the stony river beach in our 2WD Westfalia. There were several other cars also on the beach. The area is clean and quiet. It is on Yurok native land so be respectful.
Report Check-InYou’ll need at least 4wd for some parts to get to river, where the best camp spots are
Report Check-InAs described, easy to find with gmaps, I think I stayed in the top part, came in the dark, it was wet and loads of water/puddles everywhere so I avoided going fully down to the river. quiet.
Report Check-InJust to add some clarification. If following Google maps, when you get to the last right that leads to the river, if you stay on the main road (left) you will quickly find places that any vehicle can park in. Also, other roads that lead to the river that are in better condition.
Report Check-InExcactly discribtion. The entrance looks al little mess but when you get right the river entrance. You get a beautyful place to stay. Even with a rv is is inpossibble to stay and with tent also. We where there on a saterday and only cars came and go. No one bothers us. Also a great spot for Kids.
