Description

In this building you will find all you need regarding customs and immigration. We exited here but all seemed fine for entering too. Simple and laid back. On the other side of the road there is a small building where the police is housed. Here they will ask you to register, that’s all.

Zambia to Mozambique. Border is open 0600-1800. I got there late and camped in between posts. Exited Zambia was easy. In Mozambique don’t tell them you are transiting, they tried to make me pay $100 for a visa instead of $10 normal fee for issuing visa stamp(American) since I said I might drive through to Malawi that day.The guy at immigration was a real prick and argued with me for 45 minutes before granting me a normal visa stamp after I showed him a hotel booking. Then it was $10 for road tax, $10 for TIP and $20 for insurance for my US motorcycle.

Need to correct my last entry. We exited Mozambique and entered Zambia. All referral is obviously for the Zambian immigration etc and not Mozambique as stated. Cant make correction once post is entered.

Report Check-In

Really easy exit procedure. Immigration and customs in same office. Blue building on the right hand side when you exit Mozambique.
The guards will take your road tax receipt and check passports before they let you go.
On the Mozambican side you need to stop at a small gate. They check passports and carnet and send you to the Police station.
Mozambique is not part of Interpol so your police clearance is done in a small office again on the right hand side once you are on the Mozambican side of the border. No charge for that, but you need a copy of your log book which they stamp. They checked against our carnet.
Mozambican Immigration is on the left in a red brick building. Visa paid in $$. Easy and they will direct you through to customs in the same building. You need to pay carbon tax in Kwacha and toll charges in $$. There is no cash machine so bring $$ and you cannot pay by card. All easy and friendly border on both sides.

New road tax introduced. Only payable in USD ($10) at blue building on the right before the health check. Third Party insurance payable in ZAR (R280), Mets (M1700), USD($20). Given the exchange rates best to pay in Rands if you have, otherwise dollars. Temp import of vehicle is M750 and most of the staff in the immigration and customs are very helpful and nice.

After the last Zambian boom there is a Mozambique Boom. The guard will let you park in from of the new immigration/customs building on the left.

1. Go to the old immigration building on the right of the road to check temperatures and PCR tests

2 Go to immigration in the left of the road they will stamp you into Mozambique

3. In the same hall as immigration is customs. Here you fill in a temporary import permit and pay 750Mtc. For assistance speak to Ryan 00258 84 374 8765, official clearing agent but can assist with the papers.

All in all a very relaxed border. Not much though in the way if shops or facilities for fuel, cash, sim cards or food though.

Zambia to Mozambique. Got our visa on arrival easily, the printed-out hotel reservation seemed to help. No Zambia exit stamp, but that didn't seem to bother anyone. You first have to get your Covid certificate checked by a health officer in a separate office. Validity is 14 days for truckers, 72h for regular travelers, but this seems to be very flexible. A little small talk, ideally in Portuguese, and a small contribution will get you a new 14 day validity extension with a local stamp, which is very useful to repel further bribing attempts by the local police all over the country.
