Our story with this point:
The man had a horrible attitude, looked at the van (Nissan Urvan) from the distance and quoted us $42 USD, I said "No way, and walked away" he then shouted from the distance "let me look at the registration... [looked at it] Oh no, sorry, it is actually $32USD, I was wrong, okay?"

We knew that some people had arranged for the SOAT via Whatsapp with another company so I went over to the restaurant over the road and kindly asked for their wifi and sorted the whole thing via Paypal in 10 minutes for 20 dollars less. Bye bye Mr tourist scammer.

FAKE SOAT, I paid 62USD for a fake soat, I get the paper and I supposed all was ok, later on Lima some police stopped me and validate that my soat was fake, so I have to buy a new one and pay to the police 20usd. BUY IT online interseguro.pe it is 44 soles

You’ll see a yellow sign that says SOAT. It’s just at the end of the bridge, on the left, down the little hill, first tienda on the left, next to the building under construction. Park up on the bridge. $12/month. Also, I asked about insurance and the girl in the Aduana after this said if we had other “seguros” that explicitly say they are valid in Peru, then you don’t need the SOAT in addition.

This place is not at the side of the road so it's easy to just passby, it's quite hidden you need to ask around. The door and windows were locked you need to knock. You have to buy insurance before reaching Peru Aduana, otherwise they will make you come back to buy the insurance.

First dirt road on your left after immigration, first building on your left. Park on the Main Street and walk down unless you have a motorcycle. Small issue because they don’t write the whole VIN on the paperwork...

crossing from Ecuador to Peru:

we just crossed the border and we paid $20+2(comission) for the SOAT for Peru. we have a Toyota Dolphin motorhome(large RV that passed as a "forgoneta").

even though the border was empty on both sides, took us 1h30 to go through. Be patient! They are not in a rush and they are quite happy to chat with you for a bit 😅
