Peru
San José is a small village located 2 km from the highway. There is a lot of open space in front of the two churches, the old one is a ruin but still very impressive. Not sure about placing a tent here. When there are knocks at your door late in the evening, it’s not the police but rather young kids inviting you to play football. Very quiet during the night. You can find a faucet directly next to the "new" church.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Construction ended. We camped for one night close to the church ruins. A friendly lady welcomed us and said it was safe. There are no facilities but we saw a tap on the side of new church. No shade and cool night.
Report Check-InSuch a nice surprise ! A nice stop on our way to Nasca ! The church is really impressive, even though it spooked us a little a night ! You can visit it and go up to the bell for a nice view of the surrounding mountains.
Quiet to stay, and quite safe (we asked around and basically people laughed at us since they couldn’t possibly imagine there could be danger there). We were just a bit bothered by the local drunk in the morning. Nothing dangerous, but he likes to “make friends”.
Report Check-Invery quiet and safe little town ....some shops close to the main road ... very impressive old church (ruins). Friendly people.
Report Check-InStill a good place. perfecto for one night, quiet & safe. church is crazy, but in poor condition with lots of trash (like everywhere in Peru)
Report Check-InThis church is a great sight to see. Nice leg stretcher. The overnight (we tucked in across the street) is not so much. Dogs barking and moto traffic late and early. But it’s flat, off the highway and a great view of the church.
Report Check-Inthe church is just incredible. Worth the trip. is a 300 year old Jesuit church
Report Check-InSão José é pequena e tranquila. Ficamos debaixo de algumas árvores perto das igrejas. Uma delas quase totalmente destruída por dois terremotos.
