Description

Very beautiful place with access to the beach and a very impressive amount of different trees on the property. You can easily walk to Bagamoyo. The days are nice and quiet.

Nice grass camping area under plenty of trees. Beautiful lawn of hotel with high palms. $10 pppn. Normally no noise of bars but mosque starts very early morning.

I agree with the comments here that this is a beautiful and quiet place to stay. However, we left after one night as there are no camping facilities at all. Yes they give you a key to a chalet to use the bathroom but they won’t let you park up anywhere near it so it’s a long walk for the toilet! There is also no under cover area nor a sink to wash up in - so we had to walk backwards and forwards from our truck to the chalet in the pouring rain just to take all our cooking stuff to the undercover porch area and then carry it all back again. We also had to wash up all our pots and pans in a small hand sink.

I don’t think the owners are familiar with the needs of campers so whilst the place was pretty it wasn’t practical!

Fantastic place for camping. We stayed there 3 nights and would have stayed longer with pleasure. The german owner created this place 32 years ago and still live there. He can talk about every single Tree he plante and now it's a lovely grassy and shady area. For 13$pppn we got the key of a bungalow for private shower and toilet. There is a tap with drinkable water and you can have power from a bungalow. Beach is perfect with p'enty of fishermen from whom you can buy fish. Perfect!

Report Check-In

Lovely trees and grassy area. Used banda for showering. No dish wash facilities. Owner unhelpful with information. Biting ants chased us away after one night.

As the previous comments state really!
We arrived in 2 vehicles with roof tents, beautiful spot to park up and relax, we had a key to one of the chalets for toilet and shower access, which was all well working and tidy.
It was a mighty hot night! We didn’t sleep so well, bit of background noise at times too but nothing to do with the campsite itself! 🙏🏻

We had a nice chat with Frank, hes built an amazing place over the 30 years he has been there, restaurant was great food, good price, and very friendly staff. Beautiful spot to stop if you’re in the area.

Report Check-In

Lovely green lawn to park your 4x4 on, and access to a chalet for the toilet and shower. Nice bar and restaurant. Easy walking distance into the old town.

Report Check-In

As described by previous visitors. Nice owners Franck and Helen, he from Germany and she from South Africa. We also had use of a cottage's ablutions and power point for Tsh 50,000 pn for two people. Lots of little black mozzies that bite and very humid especially if there is no wind. Yes, the Muezzin will wake you before dawn but no other distracting noise. Swimming is sort of OK if you don't mind the bits of weed etc coming ashore. Be prepared for occasional power outages being experienced in many parts of Tanzania currently. Travellers Lodge however does have a generator. Franck will not allow more than a handful of overlanders to camp at one time so best to phone ahead to check on the situation. +255 754 855 485.

Report Check-In

Good place to stay. 12$ pppn but you can negociate to 10$pppn, which is a fair price for what you get.
a lot of bushbabies, which was cute to watch them.

Report Check-In

Best place by far in the greater area. But we also got stuck as they had a big group (and you also dont want to stay in such case as infrastructure is not thought for many campers). thats why we add a contact number which we were given by Frank the owner: +(255) 0754 855 485 better call in advance and avoid disappointments.
Otherwise: very friendly staff, helpfull, we got a cottage for using the shower and toilett as well as plug in for AC power ! price 20$/night per vehicle incl 2 adults, power etc. excellent beautiful green garden (all year round as they sprinkle it) with over 100 different species of palmtrees ! restaurant serves good food at realistic prices. large choice of cold beers incl. southafrican brands. be prepared for lots of mosquitos and high temperatures at night the first few months in the year before rain starts maybe around april.

be aware that beach is not for swimming, to many fisherboats (and their leftovers...) right along the shoreline but ok for a walk. oldtown to visit (entry fee around 10$ depending on which areas/buildings you want to see) in walking distance. No loud music at night at all, only the mosque you will hear starting of course very early in the morning.
best thing to do here is relax and relax and relax and enjoy yourself ;-) thats what we did for 5 days.

a beautiful campsite between the trees on the grass. She opened a cottage for us where we could use the shower and toilet. The shower was very dirty and the water did not drain. The sink almost fell off the wall. The food in the restaurant was very tasty. for 24500 you have a delicious meal. We were there on the weekend and there was no music nuisance from the bar.

Beautiful campsite set amongst many, many palm trees and on grass. You can walk out straight onto a lovely beach with good swimming at high tide. Use of a nice banda for hot water showers and electricity. Lovely bar and restaurant, free WiFi and excellent laundry service in a washing machine! 12 USD pppn

Campsite was booked by one group so we where not able to camp. Really disappointed about this. Avoid disappointment and call before arrival if they have space.

Report Check-In

set up your campervan on the beautiful and well kept grassy sites under the trees (all planted by the owners the last 30 years!) or sleep at a nice lodge. Frank&Helen, chatty and really nice helpful owners definitely recommend!

Report Check-In

One of the best campsites we had on the trip. There is everything you need.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for a total of 4 nights before and after our stay in Dar es Salaam and really enjoyed our time here. Very nice garden with a lot of palmtrees between which you can park your car. In our opinion way better than Firefly! We could use one of their cottages for the shower, toilet and electricity. Paid $10ppn instead of the $12 they asked. The food in the restaurant is outrageously expensive. E.g. tomato soup for 12.000Tsh and a small portion of fries for 15.000Tsh. We walked to the restaurant Poa Poa in town and enjoyed the food (and prices) there!

Report Check-In

we confirm all that as been described previously. we stay a week with our Defender in this paradise. Probably one of our most favorite stay with a very good restaurant, the facilities of banda with a shower and electricity . It was a pleasure to visit Bagamoyo, by the streets or by the beach...We recommand++

Very beautiful place with access to the beach and a very impressive amount of different trees on the property. You can easily walk to Bagamoyo. The days are nice and quiet ☺️. At night the bar on the opposite site of the road is a challenge 🤔
You can not sleep without earplugs 😬 The beach and the landscape are incredible. The noise as well 🥺

Report Check-In

Huge and beautiful lush green garden in which to park our truck. Electricity and water next to our chosen pitch. A chalet was opened up for us to use the shower etc.

WARNING: DO NOT PARK UNDER COCONUT TREE.

Big rig friendly.

We didn‘t expect such a beautiful garden. We loved it to stand in this absolutely perfect maintained paradise in green. They have 120 kinds of palm trees ... stunning! Everything else is mentioned alteady.

Report Check-In

Really like it here. Set up in the beautiful lush gardens for 3 nights-plenty of shaded options. Access to the beach and can walk to the fish market/port area. As they are quiet we were offered the use of the “facilities” of one of the chalets and also could park close enough to run an extension cable for power. Wifi available in the reception/bar area.. 5 minute walk into old town.

Price is now 12$ pppn. Good food, ok facilities.

Still nice, because near the beach.

nothing more to say. only price is now 10 dollars pp.

Report Check-In

Huge grassy Campsite but not really on the beach. Ablutions are a bit run down and only cold water. Ok for a Stopover but nothing more.

Report Check-In

Nice place with big lawns for camping. Restaurant as amazing food. Owner let us park our vehicle there while going to Zanzibar. We enjoyed swimming in the ocean even in the rain. There weren't that many locals on the beach bothering us, perhaps due to the rain.

Report Check-In

Nice grassy site under shady trees and next to beach.
Walking distance to old town.

Report Check-In

As others have said, nice grassy and shady site with a good lounge area. Beach is terrible and full of pickpockets as indicated around the lodge with many mosquitoes. Not a beach holiday destination but good as a stop over to see the historic buildings and local art. Load music pumping from across the road until late (Saturday night). Super slow internet.

Report Check-In

Very nice and grassy campsite under trees, about 100 m to the beach, save area during night locked to beach. Great playground for children, good food, nice staff. We could get electricity from the bandas.

Report Check-In

Nice shady and green camping area. Only cold showers but gave us key to a room to use hot showers. Staff very friendly and helpful. Owner had two Land rovers and helped us fix our parking break! Lodge has restaurant and beach but camping is a bit far from the beach. Food is decent although a bit expensive. There are a lot of mosquitoes so bring repellent!

Report Check-In

Camping area with shade but wasn't able to use it at time of visit as big group booked in , but didn't show up at time we were there .other camping area with very deep sand. Ablutions - 2 toilets & 2 cold showers. Very poor & full of mosquitos & flush system very poor. No wash up area.Loads of sand flies & mosquitoes . Restaurant & bar . Food very expensive for what you get.
