If you want to hike up Cerro La Campana, this is the best spot to stay. We came in the afternoon and were told that the official camping is closed and that we could also not stay in the parking lot. But we can stay for free just in front of the gate, on the side of the small dirt road
and still use the facilities. The park ranger told us not to worry about the "no estacionamento" signs and showed us how to climb through the fence to get to the facilities after they close the gate (at 17.30). Why we couldn't park right on the parking lot inside? Don't ask me..

We had a very quiet night since the entrance to the park is the dead end of this street. Only the past hundred meters are unpaved, so easy to get here. The toilets where broken, so they put chemical ones outside. The sinks work, but the shower is closed off too. There is water though, but it has quite some chlorine inside, so better fill up at a gas station before.

If you do the hike up to Cerro Campana, it's really advisable to start early, it's a really steep climb and the sun on the last stretch is merciless. But amazing views! With breaks and enough time to enjoy the view before the crowds came, it took us eight hours up and back. The park entrance itself is still 4000pP, but they only charged us the local price of 2300pP.
