Latest Check-Ins

Place is still open for camping, but will be closed permanently beginning of August. Apparently the owner is hospitalized…
Cabins, restaurants etc already closed. Ablutions basic, but still good and clean.

Report Check-In

the lodge is closed, no rooms available but camping with tent or van is still possible, toilets and shower (cold) are working, noisy at weekend (whole night loud music) but still a good option to visit the town.

Report Check-In

Mabuya Camp announced the closure on their Facebook page, they closed on July 1st. An employee also wrote a farewell note on Facebook and people confirmed it in the comments.

Report Check-In

Good place to stay in Lilongwe. Very central spot. Campsites quite small though. Clean ablutions and powerful hot shower.

We paid MWK7000 pppn

Report Check-In

Very quiet when I was there, to the extent that I think I was the only guest. Did mean that my dorm was essentially a private room though.
It has become a little run down and didn't seem good value for the 12000 I paid, though I'm not sure there are many other budget options around this area.
I was told by a random local guy (who wasn't trying to sell me anything) that there have been muggings on the corner between here and Hideout/Hay Day, so be aware of that if you're stepping out.

Report Check-In

Nice shady spots to pitch. Owners not present and unfortunately have let the place go down a lot. No wifi, bar and restaurant non existent, can't even get a drink. Pool unusable, no cooking facilities at all. They have a washing machine for 2000k per load which is good and we did have toilet paper, electricity and toilet paper. Staff are friendly. $7USD pppn camping, they also have dorms and some rooms. Very convenient to town at least and Hideout Bar around the corner is great.

Report Check-In

Excellent lawn for camping $7pppn. A-frame huts and dorms. All use the ablutions in the house next to the dorms, which are decent and have hot water, toilet paper and liquid soap. Facilities for washing dishes, and a washing machine. You can hear people talking on the patio from the tents, but all in all a good campsite.

Report Check-In

Nice place for one or two nights when visiting the city centre. Walking or else TukTuk distance to the market and shops. Place is a bit run down and maintenance good be better, but relatively quiet and green for a citycentre campsite. Hot showers and shared kitchen and sitting area (backpackersvibe). Spots are not very big, there is a swimming pool, but didn't really look inviting to us. Could hear the bar next door, but it didnt disturb us. 7000 pp. We als went to Barefoot Lodge the night before. Better maintained, larger spots and has a restaurant and bar. But more expensive, no better ablutions and further from the center. Just what you prefer.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite for a stopover in Lilongwe. Shared ablutions, which we find okay. Suitable for rooftop tent. Close to town and big supermarkets. We paid 7000 pppn. We were there on independence day, the hide out bar which is close to the campsite had loud music until very late in the night. I don't know if that is common.

Report Check-In

Nice camp ground. You can stay here with rooftoptents. The pavement of the road/square is almost gone because of the rain. If there were more tourists it could have a more backpackers atmosphere with active bar and so on.

Camping here is better and cheaper then staying in one of the rooms at St Peters church down the road.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite but you can see the impact of covid... no good dishwashing facility. But overall good to stay.
Noleen is very friendly and helpfull. She can organise a lot

Report Check-In

First stopped at rhe golf course. They've demolished the ablution block. No camping. Came to this camp. Much better then we expected. Green garden. Electricity. Water. Ablutions not the best but functional. No big noise. People friendly. Was fine.

Report Check-In

Only camp spot in town. 3 camp spots next to reception/bar, no privacy. Abblutions were ok, no place to do dishes etc..

7$/pppn but if you want to pay with card or kwatcha they use a really high rate (769!!!!). So we ended with paying 9,5$/pppn!!! I told them the rate was way too high and that they are abusing the exchange rate to take extra money from the tourist.. no reaction on that..

So yeah..

Report Check-In

Good location. City center is 20 min by walk or 1500 kwacha for a tuk tuk. Nice place Big garden. But no kitchen. There is a kitchen but empty and dirty. Nothing to cook with. We used our own pan and ustensils. Wifi is by hotspot band. 50MB. Beds in dorms are quite good. No hot shower. I dont think it s the best place to stay in Lilongwe

Report Check-In

Stayed two nights at this camp site, it is nice and very secure, the fasilities is goed and the people very helpfull and frendly. The camp is populer and therefor busy.

Report Check-In

We tried the campsite at the golf course first only to be told that it had been closed for over a year. We went literally around the corner to Mabuya campsite. Great place. A suited us well with the roof top tent. Had laundry done and also tried their breakfast which was good. It was a little noisy now and then in the evening but for that you can walk into town and you can walk to the market and take a tuk tuk back again.
Lovely people that went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable. Definitely a yes.

Report Check-In

Pretty run down place, dorms cramped, right next to their little bar. Dirty cushions because dogs laying everywhere (ok rainy season). With a little love the place could be a lot better.

Visited Woodland later in Lilongwe, much nicer.

Report Check-In

nice place. staff is very friendly
good facilities

Report Check-In

very outdated feel and look show8ers could easily be updated, ok as a one night stop

Report Check-In

Pretty much the same place as 4 years ago, camping 7USD (no electricity, tap closeby), A-frame huts 30USD. The toilets and showers are cramped. The bar is mostly visited by expats and luckily quiets down after 10. The new mosque starts calling for prayer at 4.30AM so this is not the place for rest. Good enough for a stopover though and meeting some locals/expats but this place clearly has a monopoly in this town so they remain as they are with no changes in 4 years. Restaurant seems ok but not cheap so I didn’t use it. One night and happy to move on.

Report Check-In

Nice location close to city center. When we were here, it was really quite - even before 10 when the bar closes. It’s a nice place for socializing 😉 the Burger with Chips was nice! 7$ pppn - friendly staff! We had no problems staying there with our Unimog.

Report Check-In

Stayed in a dorm due to late arrival and poaring with rain. Dorm clean but bathrooms pretty grim. Didn’t look like many spots to camp. Close to Game shops though so convenient location for passing through Lilongwe.

Report Check-In

Clean city campsite, small for a truckcamper but you can stay in front of the restaurant. Noisy from the street but you can walk to the city. Clean ablution and good hot showers. Friendly staff, for WiFi you have to pay. No electricity and water supply for the camper.

Report Check-In

Not a great camp site for overlanders with a vehicle as the only place one can park is right on top of the bar and pool table area which if busy later at night can interrupt one´s sleep. Toilets & showers scruffy, but nice pool and convenient location. No arrival greeting from owner/s.

Report Check-In

Busy backpackers spot. Small grassy area for tents, not much privacy. Noisy until the bar closes around 10. Otherwise decent place.

Report Check-In

Campgrounds around a parking and in front of the bar. Not a perfect place for trucks. Backpackers atmosphere but very busy and noisy day and night. Nice pool, basic restaurant. USD 7 pppn

Report Check-In

I agree with last comment but price now 7 usd

Report Check-In

A typical city campsite I guess, camping is sort of in the front car park in set out bays, nice and friendly staff, OK ablutions $6 pppn, no power at sites, decent bar. It's about 2.5km walk into main shopping area along a busy road.

Report Check-In

Camp is nice, facilities ok. Hot water. Bar is well priced and the restaurant serves good food. Lots of people coming and going to talk to. Does have dorms and a frames. Can be noisy at night. $7 per person per night

Report Check-In

Nice overlanders campsite in walking distance of town. Good facilities with pool.

Report Check-In

Small garden/parking next to backpackers hostel. Some street noise. Skyband WiFi charged separately.

Report Check-In

Run by Tom and Janey (ex overlanders). Backpackers/dorms/A-frames and camping. Walking distance from Lilongwe. Clean. Viby. Can get noisy when lots of volunteer groups moving through. Wifi is by Skyband hotspot

Cost:MK1750

Report Check-In

Shoddy crash pad. Full of overland trucks and charity do-gooders. Rather painful place
