While on the way to the campsite, a Conaf official intercepted me and ordered me to leave the region immediately. The route is used by Bolivian car smugglers and the region said to be dangerous.
Report Check-Indon't forget to mention that there's no road or path up there. You have to navigate through the desert by yourself. Be careful with the terrain, it's easy to get stuck in deep sand. Only experienced drivers and riders with 4x4 or dirt bikes should do this route.
Report Check-InLate in the afternoon we drove into the Salar de Tara and looked for a wind-protected place to camp with our Defender with roof tent. We found this place hidden behind some big rocks and relatively protected. You are completely alone, the view in the morning and evening is spectacular and the stars at night are something else. However: be prepared, it is at 4,444 m.a.s.l. So it gets very cold at night - definitely minus degrees. And our Webasto Airtop 2000 worked until around 11:30 PM before it decided to shut down. So we had a freezing cold night. All in all - spectacular but be prepared
