Save your time and drive straight to Jaen as they don't insure foreigner' cars here in San Ignacio. We've asked in 6 places and always were denied. If you're afraid of the police, you should go the police station and ask for permission to drive without insurance. We didn't try, but that was what we were told in the insurance office.

Couldn't find anywhere in San Ignacio to sell me SOAT for my vehicle type. I have a Chevrolet Astro and the problem was that they didn't have the ability to sell SOAT for "Camioneta Panel", they only had "Camioneta Rural". so then I had to wait until I arrived in Joen. On the way from Joen I was stopped by the police who were angry and tried fining me for not having SOAT but I eventually talked myself out of it and they let me go.

This is the correct location for SOAT. The coordinates of other entry is not correct.

Location was incorrect, updated location. Took over an hour but purchased 1 year of insurance for 85 soles. Could not purchase less than 1 year.

15 minutes to get SOAT for my sprinter van. she had to select “otros” to get the systemto sell it as “camioneta” did not work. i suggest you park a bit away from the shop so that she can not inspect your car. the lady was very nice but system was a bit slow.

A place on the Main Street that does 1 year SOAT for 250 sol per year ($80 approx). Security guard initially said no but we asked again and explained we were travelling and that the customs official said to get SOAT at San Ignacio. He went and asked and the lady said no problem. Take vehicle docs, passport and driving licence.
