Description

First of all, the neck is gorgeous!

If you are coming from Arco de Piedra you have to cross a bridge to get here. Our 8 tons made it, no sign there about a restriction.
Some meters after that bridge there is the first, completely wind protected spot to the left. Small cars can drive under the low hanging branch of a tree. Big fireplace, rubbish bins, kind of a bench and the creek. Taller rigs can park behind a large bush, also there is a fireplace. Downside no views over the lakes!
Instead of turning left there is a way to the right ending after 30 meters at the stunning pebble beach of Lake Pueyrredon (Lake Cochrane in Chile). Fantastic color of the water, the snowcapped mountains in the back, the range to the left.... BUT windy.

If you continue on the main, broad gravel road you will see after around 300 meters a narrow track to the left which comes back to the main maybe 250 m later. We first drove to the end of the isthmus with that stunning view to the right, turned at the camping place and entered this small driveway. After 10 m the gravel forks. Left to the tag where we parked next to that tiny road (windy as well, but from our truck we oversaw both large lakes and a small inlet with darker water, reeds and waterfowls between Lake Posadas and here; for us the nicest option).
To the right the narrow track continues over gravel and a sandy stretch. Some parts are softer than others. Not sure if 4x4 is required! After around 200 m the road turns into the lakefront of Posadas and the most likely best spot at this side. There is only one big bush/tree which is half hollow and the large fireplace proves that this spot is known by others. Within the bush is no wind whatsoever and enough space to pitch a tent between fire and plant. Smaller cars can squeeze in the windless zone from the bush as well, but not big rigs. No view of Lake Pueyrredon but Posadas lies in front!

From 4 pm to 10 am we saw 4 cars on the main route, meaning no traffic. In our opinion well worth the drive to get here!

Latest Check-Ins

would not try it with a 2WD, maybe not even a 4WD. we got sanded approx 150m from the entrance of this small path, then twice again on our way out, with a rather small camper (Mitsubishi L300). No chance to U-turn. The locals who helped us out told us it only gets worse further down the path.

Good windprotection. We didn't sleep to well though because of a mink visiting the garbage bins several times. This noisy cheeky animal even crawled into our tent.

Agree with comments below, view further along the isthmus is much nicer but it was super windy when we were there and therefore we parked right after the bridge to the left.
Also agree with the parallel road getting sandy the further you drive towards lago posadas - we had to tow a car out ;-)
