Description

Beautiful landscapes of salt flats on both sides of the road. Cute little village to stop in on the salt. They sell little salt figures of cactuses and llamas. We bought a cactus for 35 pesos. Definitely worth checking out!

we took the guided tour (1500 ARS) and it was worth it to drive with our car on the salt flats and listen about the way they extract the salt and what they use it for. the guide was kind, patient and helpful. if you go to the second touristy spot you can enter on foot for free.

The salinas grandes must be visited by a guide. Wich for us was a big disappointment. You follow a motorbike with 3 cars in total (1500 pesos per car). If you are planning to visit Uyuni, there you can drive yourself and its more beautiful. However if you come from Purmamarca, the drive to here is spectacular and the drive is really worth it. Beautiful mountain roads in great condition.

Well worth checking out. We hitchhiked to here from Purmamarca and hitchhiked back the same day. Can seem quite hot during the day but bring a warm down jacket for when the sun sets. Also bring plenty of water - the air is very dry here (at least in July). Bring chap stick for lips, sun screen for skin, and UV filtering sunglasses for eyes. The sun is very intense and bright here at this elevation (3000m+). We walked around the salt flats unattended and was fine. Towards the end, a guide in a pickup truck called us over to inform us that wandering around the salt flats alone is prohibited and that one must arrange to be accompanied by a guide. I think the drive up to the salt flats from Purmamarca is more enjoyable and beautiful than the salt flats themselves. Great day out overall.

Price went up to 1200 pesos per car. Lots of people and tour buses on the flats. It was a bit of a bummer that you can only visit the flats with a guide, but we understand that they somehow need to manage the big crowds that come here daily and that would otherwise mess up the flats.

The place is very beautiful, but it is necessary to take days with sun and no wind. It is necessary that it rained in the previous days to give the mirror effect on the water. The road to "Salinas Grande" is beautiful.

O lugar é muito bonito, mas é necessário pegar dias com sol e sem vento. É necessário que tenha chovido nos dias anteriores para dar o efeito espelho na água. A estrada até “Salinas Grande” é linda.

not pretty, not worth any detour Im glad we had our way there anyways.

what nicely surprised me though (coming from the south, so new for me) were the buildings built out of crude salt. I was impressed! that was the only highlight of the drive from Purmamarca to let's say the rock fingers on the Chilean side

Did the tour in January. Lot of people. The tour cost 400 per car to enter (no matter how many people in it). It's only 2 car for one guide, so you have to way that another car is ready to go with you. The guide go in one of the car. Only 2 stops with good explanation from the guide. Around 45min but it was interesting and we enjoyed it.

You can park and access the salt by foot for free. Lots of tour busses bringing tourists in.

Already up to 400pesos. Since we’re going to do Bolivia, we passed.

It is pretty and you can still walk out on the flats.

Amazing place ! Free to see from the road side. To enter in your car is 300 pesos and a guide goes in with you. They take great photos and tell you about how the place was formed. All money goes to indigenous communities in the area. It is a short tour - 30-45 minutes, but we enjoyed it a lot

Nice place to stop for photos on the salt flats. There are 2 spots on the road, this is with a large salt llama and cactus statue. A bit towards Chile there are small pools/piletas and a couple of other buildings.
