Description

As previously described. Walking up the volcano is absolutely worth the effort. It’s not as high and difficult as it looks. For non-athletes it takes 20 minutes up, there is a crater on the top, which takes another 20 minutes to walk around with a fantastic panoramic view. Walking down takes another 15 minutes. There is a more gradual route on the back side with a large cave. Follow the dirt track clockwise from the car park.

Latest Check-Ins

There are a few places around the volcano to camp. Suggest looking at google satellite view to see the access points. Was a good place to spend the night. We climbed the volcano in the morning, up the front side and down the back side. Took us about 90 minutes to go up, down, and return to our camper. Would not say it was easy, but doable. A bit under 2 miles. Did not see anyone else while we spent the night.

Nice hike up the volcano + cave at sunrise, was nice and cool. Keep in mind the altitude (coming from Calama).

Police came next day guns in hand, however after checking our passports said all was ok, and that it was safe to camp around here.

There is a cool vent/cavern on the back side at 21.89269 S 68.50225 W

It looks worth exploring but we didn’t have headlamps. Use caution.

Nice little hike at 3400m.
The easier trails up are on the back of the volcano (not road side).

One of the best wild place in front of the volcano 🌋, http://www.saint-paul-de-vence-ushuaia.fr/pano/Web69/panorama.htm 360 of the camp, far from the road, good Entel connexion.

Volcano climbing trail parking lot. Away from the road and a “bit” better with the wind here. Nothing fancy just a place to park up for a night
