Report Check-In

Stayed here for about a week to cure a influenza. The terrace is finished now. Space for 2 to 3 rigs, for more it would be tight. Access is steep but no major issue for any vehicle. 5$ pppn.

Report Check-In

Pasamos día noches en este fabuloso lugar con la grata compañía de Jose y Matilde si pasan por este pueblo tienen que visitar a estos anfitriones no se van a arrepentir, gracias por tanto.

Report Check-In

Lovely place to stay a few days! Kind hosts, and the space for camping is great. We love the city of Otavalo, we feel very safe walking here, and it is super possible to walk from camping to the city. We recommend! Still 5 dollars per person.
________

Recomendamos! Ainda 5 dólares por pessoa.

Report Check-In

Excellent place to spend a few days in Otavalo. The terrace overlooking the city and the volcano is almost finished. Potable water, friendly dogs, electricity, hot shower. We really enjoyed it.

They organized us a ride for the Fuya Fuya hike. We left our van in the campground and took a cab to Laguna Mojanda where the hike starts. The driver waited for us for 4 hours and then drove us back for 30$.

Report Check-In

We stayed here on and off here for a week and a half and absolutely loved it. Its in walking distance to downtown (be it a steep road) and has the most beautiful view of the area. They even allowed us to park our vehicle there for $1 a day and drove us to and from Quito airport for our trip to the Galapagos (for taxi rate $50 each way).
Cost is still $5 pppn. The wifi is good,.shower is warm (just keep it low flow). Highly recommend

Report Check-In

Nice place, clean bathroom, electric heater in shower works only with little stream. They are working on new building, one day started the work at 7am but next days were calm. Walking distance to the centre and Saturday's market.

Report Check-In

as described but cold water and only young childrrn stay free. Dont miss thé market on saturdays mornings

Report Check-In

We had a great stay with them. They're currently building additional facilities for the campers, shelter for the tents, kitchen, etc. don't worry, they didn't bother us at all. Jose allowed us to use the fire place in the common area during the night which was lovely. toilets and showers were all good.
Great little find.

Report Check-In

Perfect for bike tourers! As described. Lots of overlanders here when we arrived so Jose showed us some spots a little above the main camping area - there’s a concrete veranda (up some stairs) which was perfect for us as there was a high chance of rain. Only stayed one night but would be a perfect place for a rest day.

It’s up a big nasty cobbled hill so make sure you save some energy for a final push!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

100% agree with previous 2 comments, this is a wonderful location with easy access to the city and good views over it.

Jose, Matilda and the rest of his crew (incl the dogs) are so welcoming and give off a great vibe.

As an added bonus: Jose’s Spanish is very clear and he speaks slowly so even if your Spanish is not great you can chat = free Spanish school..

Report Check-In

We had no problems getting here in our rig which was 3.35m tall, and there was still lots of clearance left. They have wifi for both camping area and the common area now and it worked great for us. Dogs were super well behaved (we have kids but no dogs). Excellent location above town with good access. The common area with view and fireplace are really nice on chilly nights. Jose and Matilde are super kind and generous hosts. We really enjoyed it here.

Report Check-In

You can ignore the comment from iguana.panamericana.
The gate is huge, any rig fits. The dogs are the cutest camp dogs we’ve ever met.

There are lots of electricity points to connect your truck and it’s easy to fill up your water tank too.
There is a large community area with a beautiful view over the city, and a fire place too.
You have access to a kitchen. The grassy area is large enough for 5-6 vehicle I think.

The market is an easy 15 minutes walk.

The hosts are amazing people, very welcoming.

Report Check-In

Big rigs will definitely NOT fit! The driveway is overgrown with trees. Max. height 3m (we are 3.60m).

Report Check-In

This place sucked for us. We wanted to work and research our travel plans a bit, but the WiFi was really poor and the cell signal too. Two out of three dogs were aggressive towards our dog and she got bitten by one. That was enough reason for us to leave.. People were friendly though, so as long as you don't have a dog and don't need internet, you're good!

Report Check-In

Wonderful big open grass parking that has space for almost any size camper. It has some quite steep hills to get to the entrance, but they’re doable with almost any vehicle. Jose, Inty and the rest of the staff are incredible people. They have bathrooms, a shower, a well equipped kitchen and wifi that stretches to the whole parking area. There is a cabin with seating great wifi and amazing views.

Report Check-In

Fantastic camping inside and just above Otavalo. Curiñan is back in business post pandemic. The clear choice for Overlanders arriving from cooombia or heading north. Hot shower, clean amenities. Great “lounge” with a fireplace and a terrific view of the town and the opposite volcano. They even have a new washing machine. Super friendly hosts. Left our camper here all the days or evenings we spent in town. Would definitely stay here when back in the area.

Report Check-In

Verry nice plac to stay, with awsome views over the city and volcanos. Grassy area to park with some chickens around. 7 min walk to town, 15 min walk back (steep hill!). With the campervan the steepest part can be avoided. Just loop around. Good wifi, and electric shower head for hot water showers.

Report Check-In

Perfect location to visit Otavalo. Not too far from the center, walking distance 20min. Beautiful place with very friendly owner as described before. Would definitively recommend this place.

Report Check-In

we came here thinking we would stay for 1 night but ended up staying for 5 as it was so peaceful and quiet with awesome views. it has all of the amenities you could want. the lounge area was great and offered a refuge from the rain. totally fenced in so you can let your dogs off and run around. the main parking area is almost all grass now and didn't chew it up while driving in or out. many flat spots with easy access to water spigots and power plugs. I thought the WiFi was strong when we were streaming stuff and it reached the whole parking area. there is another grassy area up on top as well, but it's not as finished as the bottom one. a few fruit trees and lots of flowers. check out the taxo fruit that was growing over the path to the shower. it's a member of the passion fruit family. black tailed trainbearer and sparkling violetear hummingbirds are commonly spotted. my only note would be to not fallow Google maps to get the last few blocks as the 2 roads to the north have been taken over by the restaurants for seating and are not passable anymore. the road Curiñan from the west is passable but very steep. I'm going to post some better pictures as many here are way too dark.

Report Check-In

We stayed just one night here but wish could be more. As described. 5usd pp and the living room is really nice and rustic. We loved all the details of a Otavalese* house.
Super recommended but if you work on line as we do (videocall/classes) will face some problems with the quality of the internet. Appart of that is excellent 👍

Report Check-In

We stayed for three nights and paid 5 USD p.P.p.N. The bathroom is more or less clean. The place and owners are very peaceful. Walking distance to the city center.

Report Check-In

We stayed 3 nights here. Everything as described. Short walk down to the city. Taxi - ore one hour walk -- to the Condor Park 4 USD. Very safe and quiet but early in the morning the roosters will wake you up.

Report Check-In

A very peaceful, welcoming place with an amazing view over Otavalo.
The owners are very friendly, welcoming and helpful! We would defenitely come back and can recommend this place!
Just a 10‘ walk to Otavalo!

Report Check-In

Un lugar con hermosas áreas verdes donde puedes descansar con tranquilidad

Report Check-In

We really enjoyed this place. The camping area is on beautiful well-cared-for grass. The wifi works from your car. The communal area is rustic and beautiful and is a really nice place to hang out. Unfortunately, it was raining a lot when we were there so the fire wood was wet. No fire for us :( The bathrooms are clean and the shower piping hot. We walked into the markets on a thursday and had a really big cheap lunch at Mercardo municipal 24 (1.50-2$ for almuerzo). The best supermarket nearby (for necessities e.g wine) is Santa Maria. The family that operate the campground are really friendly and kind. Our dog loved the garden as it was really secure and he was able to wander as he pleased. Lots of chickens and lots of baby chicks when we there. It also has a beautiful view over Otavalo. Would definitely return and recommend.

Report Check-In

Perfect location - walking distance to town (and cheap cab home if you don’t want to hike the hills!). The little community area is so cozy with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The spot is flat and also has a great view- highly recommend!!

Report Check-In

we went there 2 weeks ago in a room for around 20 USD and came back to camp. the place is nice but we didn't get hot shower at all, in the room and in the camping part....

Report Check-In

+ very friendly owner, Jorge, who can give you great recommendations (and a map) for the surrounding area of Otavalo

+ warm shower (if you use low pressure)

+ a nice hang out area but a bit dusty and windy

- lots of chickens on the campsite that can wake you up at 4am in the morning ;-)

5$ pp, recommend to use the northern “8 de septiembre” street to go up, as the one suggested by maps.me is very steep up hill

Report Check-In

Nice place to stay! Super friendly owners. $5 per person. Clean bathroom, hot shower, tp. WiFi. Flat spots. 2 friendly dogs and many chickens. Just be careful with leaving shoes outside your van, one of the puppies chewed up my flip flop :(

Report Check-In

Very nice place. Great view from the city. The owners are improving the place to make it even better for us Overlanders, but as it is it is already great. Really hot shower and good WiFi. Quiet all day and night.

Report Check-In

My photos disappeared do here is another attempt.

Report Check-In

I would like to add that Jose is improving the campsite all the time. I have put in new photos. Two more bathrooms will be ready very soon.
The chapel is definitely worth a visit. The wooden pictures were made by a Swiss artist- very beautiful indeed

Report Check-In

As described an increadible place to stay! The owners continuously try to improve the Overlander experience. The new bathroom close to the lower grass area (with the big gate and the power outlets) is nearly finished, there is a new grass field above the building (see pic) and beside the lower field there is now a awesome room, all in natural materials, with chairs, tables and a fireplace in the corner, where José starts a fire every evening for the guests. Perfect for escaping the cold if you stay in a tent or a smaller van. It’s still 5$ppn, use of the kitchen is 3$ ONCE for the whole stay. Electricity was free. WiFi is perfect at the site and they plan to put a router in the new community area (together with some sofas).
There are also rooms available in the new building with private bathroom for 10$ppn. The showers are hot. No problems entering or leaving. José planted grass after an Overlander suggested it. Maybe the ground was still freshly made when some others had trouble after the rain.
Their passion and their hearts of gold alone are already reason enough to stay here!

Report Check-In

A great place to stay, all as described below. Just to add we had no issues accessing the campsite at all - we're in a LWB Mercedes Sprinter and are almost 7.5m.

Report Check-In

Quait nice place, closy to center, 10min to market, 2 usd per taxi to come back. Fast internet, 5 usd per person. Friendly owner Jose. Hot shower. A lot chikens in field.

Report Check-In

We stayed here 2 nights. José is very friendly and welcoming and suggests good places to visit. A great view of Otavalo from the terrace. The kitchen, dining area and fireplace are lovely, especially when raining! Can walk to the market, and about 45 minute walk to Parque Condor.

Report Check-In

Nice spot for checking out Otovalo. Flat grassy area, but a tight turn, small gate, and steep hill for entrance. No height restriction (functionally) but you might have issues entering if you have a very long vehicle. We are 6m and did it no problem. Easy walk to town, huge market on Saturdays is worth checking out. Clean bathrooms, water for washing dishes, and power plugs available. WiFi reached the car, but wasn't very fast. We paid $5/pp but weren't charged extra for electricity. Recommended.

Report Check-In

Using kitchen is another 3 USD. But it’s very good with stove, pots, culinary and fridge.

Report Check-In

Very nice place to stay. Enough flat grassy place to fit about four to five vans. Hot- high pressure- shower. Everything is clean enough to feel comfortable. 5US$ pp. Wifi didn't work at the Campground, but they will fix it. I was able to use the Wifi off the reception. Very nice owners how like to know more about Overlanders. They love to welcome you. 10 minutes walk to the center. If it is clear you have a amazing fiew into the mountains.

Report Check-In

Hospitable place. Nice owners. Bathroom average clean with hot, strong pressure shower. 10 min walking to the town center. 5usd pp - electricity included.

Report Check-In

really great spot and incredibly kind people who run the campground/Hostal. Check in is at the yellow building across from the campground.

as mentioned, when it rains it can get a bit muddy. We tore up part of the field trying to get out but they were incredibly kind about it and filled in the ruts.

Report Check-In

This is a beautiful spot to spend time, camp, walk to the market, meet wonderful people. Camping, food parking, hot shower, toilets, water and electricity for 5 pp. The view is almost as spectacular as the hosts!

Report Check-In

very secure. great views. lovely owners. good WiFi. but beware of the mud when it rains. the field turned to mud overnight (from what felt very firm when I arrived).

I have 4x4 small light van and it was still difficult to get out. I did manage in the end without any help but I messed the field up.

Report Check-In

For us the best option to stay in Otavalo. Peaceful and quiet with beautiful views. Walking distance to famous market, restaurants etc. Lovely and welcoming hosts. Truly recommended!

Report Check-In

José and Matilde are wonderful, nice hosts. Quiet nights. Nice location, you can walk to town down short but very steep hill. Good wifi. Very hot shower you can use next to hostel, though bathroom was smelly. A little difficult to find on GPS. There is a fire pit and BBQ that owners encourage you to use. Overall, very nice stay here.

Report Check-In

Great campsite. Super hot water at the hostel over the road. Toilet and water on site. Electricity available. Quiet hill side location with amazing views. Dogs welcome. Small dogs on the campsite, chickens. Larger dogs over at the hostel. Super friendly family. Cafe on site also selling sandwiches, traditional soup and coffee-all organic.

Report Check-In

Great place and great family to stay with. Good place in Otovalo, just 10 min walk to town and about 15 min to Saturday's Animal market. They offered a hot shower in the hotel or the cold one on the campsite. Lovely dogs around and many hens/chickens and cuys. 5 dollars per night per person.

Report Check-In

Wonderful place, owners are extremly nice!!!
A short walk into town and to the market, nice and peacefull at night, hummingbirds enjoying the beautiful flowers around the grass patch at day. We really loved this place!

Report Check-In

The hosts are very welcoming. Jose and Luz are indegenous old couple and are the definition of kindness. They helped heal my girlfriend that had big headaches with medicinal plants and invited us for dinner. They brought us on their finca for picking the corn that we ate later on. They even gave us a great soup for free. There is also a great camping spot here that is not written in here; and it is only 5USD/PERS. There is access to electricity on the campsite, a fire place, an outside fire kitchen and an outside bathroom with shower. I highly recommend this place as it was one of the best hostal experience we had in our 6 months trip in south america. GO THERE!

Report Check-In

Nice location and friendly owner. Beautiful view and walking distance to town and market. Hot shower at the hostel, cold shower and toilet next to camping. Sweet kittens, cuy, rooster and hens are your neighbors. Nice green garden, big rig friendly, safe also to leave your car during day. Small covered picknick spot on ground where you also find a fireplace...but the hens and cuy live there too 😉

Report Check-In

Beautiful grass field with great views over the mountains and the town of Otavalo. Reception of Hostal Curiñan is on the opposite side of the road.

Wonderful friendly owners Jose and Matilde will ensure you’ll have a great stay!
