Latest Check-Ins

Very nice track with beautiful landscapes. The track shakes and we move forward slowly. High clearance mandatory.

Report Check-In

We drove from Cajamarca-Toche-Salento with our 9t truck (length: 7,5m and 3,5m high). Always hard to give advices for other cars but we had sections with 10cm deep mud and from time to time a bit deeper wholes. You shouldn’t be much higher than 3,5m because of obstacles like trees and vegetation. We stayed one night on the road and enjoyed the remoteness and the views a lot! The 70km took us in total around 8 hours…

Report Check-In

The road is very feasible for 4x4 vehicles with ground clearance.
We drove it with our Defender without any problems.
A beautiful route with almost no traffic and very nice views.

Report Check-In

Coming from Ibagué we stayed over night in front of the Hostal Faldas de Machin. They gave us advice that we should NOT continue all the way to Salento, because the road is "feo" - in bad condition, even for our Sprinter with high clearance and 4x4.

We therefore drove via Toche only up to Las Cruces (closed) restaurant and turned around -> back to Toche and further to Cajamarca.

Road from Toche to Cajamarca was dry and in good condition, section from Toche to Las Cruces was mostly dry and not too bad, but our solar panels got some scratches from low hanging branches.

Well, we drove very slowly and very much enjoyed the views!!!

We were driving from Cajamarca to Salento. with a 4x4 sprinter. from Cajamarca to
Toche it was oké and open. After Toche you will need the 4x4 and especcialy the high clearance. 24 km before Salento there is a restaurant where we stayed overnight. next morning people advice is to go back. there are very narrow bends and landslidings. so we took not the risk and drive back over the wonderfull road with bus breathtaking views. the waxpalms are enormous and plenty!

Report Check-In

Road Report: Definitely wouldn’t attempt this road without high clearance and some good tires. 4x4 not necessary if dry, don’t know if you can make it in heavy rain without 4x4. Any vehicle over 3.5 meters tall will be trimming some trees and might not pass under water lines across the road. I wouldn’t try it in anything wider than a normal vehicle. A dual rear wheel is going to be a challenge due to many narrow spots. The scenery is gorgeous and well worth it if your not in a hurry.. Enjoy
UPDATE: After camping for a night in Toche we started talking to the locals. They said the road to Cajamarca is closed for repairs and they didn’t know when it was scheduled to be reopened. They said there’s another route but it was for Jeeps only..We turned around and went back to Salento..

Stunning road, worth a drive. The first half from Salento heading east was very easy, flat, hard packed dirt. It rained the morning we left and we still had no problem. The second half had a few large muddy puddles (fun!) and a couple spots where high clearance is necessary, but overall, it was an easy drive and very beautiful. Ask in town about the condition, we were told it was fine with 4wd, but I reckon a 2wd with decent clearance would have no problem.

Highly recommend! We have a 2WD sprinter and did it with no problems (road was mostly dry for us). Took about three hours from the Salento-Toche wild camping spot to get back down to the main town/paved road. Views are really incredible- we listened to the theme song from Raiders of the Lost Ark during parts so it felt especially epic. You won’t be disappointed!

agree with previous comments, very great road with stunning views. a little challenging but on the confidence building side rather than the freaking out side. Fine for novice off-road motorcyclist, at least during dry season, if I managed it, probably everyone can 😄

Report Check-In

It took us 2 days with our IVECO Daily 4x4. Although beginning time of rain we had luck and no muddy parts and grassy places not wet. We agree... great camino...thousands of that skinny giants (wax palms), a lot of country life and piece an quiet. You will love it...nothing for people that are in a hurry ,-)

We do in dry season with a van 2wd. Some parts are challenging but you can do ! In wet season, we can’t do. Very good road without tourist and very good to see 😉

Report Check-In

This drive needs a full day, high clearance, good suspension and brakes and maybe 4x4. It is a beautiful view of the pines, palms and crops. But the road is challenging in a few spots. Plan accordingly.

Report Check-In

Indeed very nice and many more wax palms than Cocora Valley. However we could not see any hiking possibilities. All private land. Definitely would recommend 4x4 during wet season. There are some pretty muddy parts...

Beautiful place on the road from Salento to Toche! Forget Salento and the Corcoa Valley - this is way better and completely without any tourists. Beautiful drive!
