Description

Now also Kayak Tours! Even with wind! It is highly recommended, please read review below.

Francisco Leiva runs a very professional and informative tour of marble caves (these are not the famous marble caves but some people argue they are more beautiful than the ones from Rio Tranquillo or even more beautiful; we didn't go to the other ones so can't say). The tour from here is much cheaper than what's available in Rio Tranquillo, there are far far fewer people here and the drive to Puerto Sanchez from Bahia Muerta offers fantastic views. We paid 40,000 four four of us and the boat tour took about 1.5 hours and included a walk through some caves. You can knock at Francisco Leiva's door or contact him at +56 9 8414 5331. He also has a website, www.cirviolet.cl.

Good experience, nothing else to add. We booked the tour by messaging the phone number listed here on Whatsapp. After a bit of back and forth we had the day and time settled.

The meeting point is the embarcadero, not their office/campground (but if you need to use the toilets, best to stop there first).

We paid after the tour but they only accepted cash or bank transfers. So could not pay by card.

The road X-731 is paved until Puerto Murta and after that it's good gravel road much better than the bad washboard around Rio Tranqillo. However, some sections of the road are steep/narrow.

We did the full marmol premium tour today and it was awesome. Interesting stories paired with nice scenery. They did the tour bilingual (English and Spanish) for us, as our spanish isn't the best. Can really recommend this company!

Amazing tour. We were not sure if we should go to Rio Tranquilo or here but the lady at Doña Dora camping recommended this place. CirViolet is the name of the business. Marcelo was our guide. He gave us a “full Marmol Premium” tour…two boats with about 10 pple on each. With this tour you go to the Catedrales the Capilla AND the Caves on the Sanchez side….with a walk through a small tunnel, only this company has access to….because they discovered it! We had helmets and lights and softshell ponchos with hoods. Windy and some splashing on the boat trip but minimal. It did rain a bit on us too. But the sun came out. We left at 9:30 and the light was fine, but it was cloudy. I highly recommend this tour because you get to see all the areas of marble, plus some exclusive ones. Pablo was also a guide and the two told great stories of the caves and the port…an old mining town…with great pride. Relaxed and less touristy than tours from Rio Tranquilo! $37000 pp. cc accepted. Tour lasted 3.5hrs. Lots of picture ops and super cool guides. Only spoke in Spanish with this group. Not sure if they do the tour in English. Wear good grip shoes and layers!! +569 96705493/+569 82671265 Paola & Gonzalo @turismocirviolet. Call ahead to make reservations…we called on Tuesday for Thursday tour. Oh ya…and sit on the starboard side of the boat (right side when sitting) for the best photo ops!!

We took a kayak tour and it was awesome! The tour lasted about 3 hours, included getting out and walking through the caves on the private island and a stop on a beach with a small lunch. Kayaks are definitely the way to see these caves if you have a bit of kayak experience. We went into many of the caves with the kayaks whenever we wanted. Our guides were great and professional with lots of explanations of the geology and modern history of the town and marble extraction. It was in spanish, we paid 50,000 per person plus tipping the guides. We very rarely take guided tours but this one was worth every penny.

Wetsuits, neoprene booties, and lifevests were provided.

We arrange the premium 3 hour tour with them. They quoted us 40 000 per person. They did inform us that the guide only speaks Spanish. We then asked for discount and only paid 34000. Great tour. Well worth the money. Tour only left at 12. We would have preferred an early departure. Walk in the cave was about 15 minutes with helmet and torches supplied. I would recommend using them as you saw the cathedral, chapel and more. @Fearlessonfourwheels

We did the tour this morning but unfortunately I can't say we share the enthusiasm. I contacted him in advance through WhatsApp and asked if the guide speaks English as our Spanish isn't good enough for geological explanations, especially not the Chilean Spanish which is even more difficult to understand here in the South. That wasn't a problem, there would be an English speaking guide. There wasn't and we couldn't understand hat was being sad, so we missed most of the explanation unfortunately. We only found out about the guide while already on the boat. When I contacted him through WhatsApp I was first told the guide spoke Eny. When I said he really didn't, I was told the original guide was suddenly sick...We ended up getting a discount but I would rather have had a nice experience. The walk through the caves is very short, no more than 200m through one narrow passage and then you end up on a small marble beach, that's it, so not really a walk through the caves. If you definitely want an English speaking guide you might be better of in Puerto Tranquilo and skip the "walk". If you do decide to do this tour, then keep in mind it gets very very cold on the water even on a nice sunny day and you will get wet a bit. The marble caves are indeed quite nice.

Turismo Cirviolet offers nice boat trip (also Kayak) to the caves and cathedral Marmol. You can also book the tour from Puerto Rio Tranquilo and Puerto Marmol. If you book with Cirviolet you can walk into a cave on a privat island which is unique - only they can offer this. We made 2 tours, one from Puerto Marmol and one from Puerto Sánchez and the one with Tourismo Cirviolet is far more interesting than the other one. Also less tourists. The tour is 3 hours, 34‘000 Pesos per person. Well worth the money. Also in English, make sure you book in the morning because of the colors .

We took the premium boat tour with Cirvioleta and it was amazing. Left at about ten am. We saw the boats, the nearby caverns, the far caverns, the cathedral and the boat went into two different caverns AND we put on helmets and walked in a cavern. Very well done. Spanish language. Not pushy or overcrowded. Saw and did more for less than the offers from Rio Tranquilo. BUT it is a bumpy, winding road to get here and there are limited services here.

We had a great day exploring the marble caves by kayak. Francisco & Edu are fun people who explain you how to kayak and provide a lot of information about the site and the surroundings.

Was a bit hesitant about kayaking at first as we usually don’t take many tours but this was well worth it. Francisco was very responsive to our questions and Marcelo was a good guide who always waited for us patiently round the corner as we explored the caves. we started at 430 pm, got dressed and waited for a boat to take us across and got to the kayaks slightly past 5 and had a nice 2-3 hours paddling around the marble caves. All the equipment was really good, had wet suits, shoes, life vests and all kayaking equipment included. Would recommend calling or whatsapping francisco ahead to book as we booked on the day itself and the logistics takes a few hours to arrange. All in all, kayaking was so much better than the boat trip, we got in so many caves and while i agree sunrise or early morning is better, the evening is also nice, though don’t expect it to be as blue.

Bring some snacks (: paddling against the wind saps energy real fast!

Kayak Tour! Francisco and his cousin Marcelo now also offer Kayak tours. Even when it is windy, they go out of their way to bring you and the kayaks across in a bigger boat from where you explore the caves.
We asked for the best time to go and so decided to meet at 8am the next day. In the morning we set up gear and got dressed, before heading over to the island in a big boat with the kayaks. By 9am we were paddling along with our personal guide Marcelo. We first did around 2.5hrs of exploration, before we took a rest on a little beach where we tried Marcelos own Mate mix along with delicious oatmeal cookies baked by his wife. After a nice chat and a rest we paddled backwards to the beach where we would be collected again. Here we went on to explore another cave on foot before climbing to the mirador.
It was after 1pm when we all arrived back on land.
What can you say? In total the family spend 5 hours of their time, including giving us a member as a personal guide and all new gear (kayaks, neoprene clothing, protective gear, swim vests - all in top shape and quality).
When we asked for the price Francisco told is for two people it is 35000pp, but if more people join (he has 8 kayaks) the price will go down. We nevertheless negotiated 60t for both of us but when we returned decided to pay full price as this is more than fair!
We truly want to recommend this experience and hope people come here and enjoy this magnificent experience instead of joining the crowds in Tranquilo. This is the best valued experience we have had in Chilean Patagonia.

There are about 5 boats on the shore. 15 min after arrival we were on one of them. The ride takes about 1,5 hours, beautiful. You need 0,5 hours to get there from the carretera, good road, but narrow steep and many turns, they offer beautiful views.

The marble caves of Puerto Sanchéz can be visited by a boat tour from the eponymous village. See the other point for more information about the tour.

In comparison to a tour in Puerto Rio Tranquillo, the tour to the marble caves of Puerto Sanchéz, with Señor Leiva, is more informative, more relaxed and less touristy. But it must also be said that the caves of Puerto Sanchéz are a bit smaller that the ones in Puerto Rio Tranquillo. Nonetheless, this tour is definitely recommendable!
