Something not right?

Description

Palenque is the town that was the first liberated town during Spanish rule of slavery. There is a statue commemorating this as well as a plaza where local musicians and dancers perform - I don't know how often but on a Monday when I arrived there was a music performance. Tuesday's also may something going on. I say Tuesdays because that is a day that a tour agency from Cartagena schedules its visit. The locals here are friendly and the hospedaje owner was a relaxed guy. They have a private available and a two bed room plus another room I didn't see into. For the double bed room they normally charge 15k a bed but without really many guests you may be able to work out a deal. This is the type of town where I just enjoyed chilling in the plaza and simple life.

Latest Check-Ins

Palenque is a small town with an interesting history. Take a tourguide to get to know more about it. They will aproach you when you step on the main square of the village. Be aware, you have to negotiate about almost everything in this village and the tourguides can be a bit pushy.
Also the villagers love loud music all day and evening long, it is literally everywhere, so bring earplugs if you want to sleep.

A tourguide brought us to a hotel with small, semi-airconditioned rooms for a negotiated price of 50.000. High entry restriction, so only cars can go inside the hotel gate. It is a white building with a green gate just before the main square.

You can arrive in town and ask around for a “hospedaje”. They mentioned 25000 COP but you can negotiate down to 15000 and sometimes 10000 per room. I stayed at a different house facing the main plaza - with Sra. Otilda, and the Hader family. There are three shops where you can get supplies, lots of people willing to be your tour guide, and if you get here when there’s a fiesta, you’ll get an amazing opportunity to see Afro-Caribbean culture in all its glory.
