Description

We parked on the big flat parking lot in front of the beach/river facing the volcano and with the other volcano behind us. You can take kayak tours too. We asked the owner Meel (?) to park our vehicle and he was very welcoming. We had a drink at the bar with Meel and asked if we can use the toilet and shower for the night which he gladly let us. Beautiful spot, didn't pay anything, good swimming spot! No wifi, lots of dogs around - Sasha the guard dog for security, and chickens.

Just to confirm that the place still exists.
Price still the same 100 Cordoba per person per night (February 2024)

Report Check-In

Save gorillas in Africa, if you want help nature. If you feed stray dogs, there will be more stray dogs. Sad but true.

Report Check-In

Very nice place as described. Good fish not expensive, cheap beer, nice views and sunset and everything you need for good camping. WiFi. 100C/p/night.

Nevertheless, in our opinion, the STREETDOGS make this place less attractive: poo on the campground and on the beach, they peed on our bicycles, opened our bags for food, jumped on tables and chairs when we ate, in the morning you will see the dustbins of the toilets all messed up around. I would recommend NOT TO FEED them.

PLEASE BRING DOG FOOD and read below if interested in helping more🤞🏼

There are a lot of starving dogs on this property. I marked a pin on iOverlander where you can buy dog food for bulk in Altagracia. Please feed them if you can ❤️

We stayed a week to hang with all the dogs and feed them. They’re all so friendly, but nobody wants to care for them. There is a super skinny mom (Luna) and four 4-week-old puppies. We got three of the puppies dewormed after visiting Ometepe Vet Clinic down the street. They will be ready to start vaccinations on SEPTEMBER 1st. If you can take them at that date or after, I will pay for it. Please send me a WhatsApp at +18018931502 or IG @chasing.vida and I’ll organize with the vet.

There is another 3-month-old puppy who belongs to the neighbors behind the restaurant that we got started on some vaccinations. His name’s “Capuchino” and he may have a red collar on. The neighbors call him “Chiquito”. He needs a follow-up at the vet on or around SEPTEMBER 23rd. I already paid for his second appt, and I’m hoping the neighbor takes him. If not, maybe you could help if passing through? The vet is literally 5 minutes away and they’re wonderful.

Sorry for the long post, but please shoot me a message if you want more details, photos, or even just to send me an update on how they are 😊. We reached out to 2 rescues to try and find homes for the mom and three (now four) puppies, but they couldn’t help. They are currently with a neighbor named Mario. We left him with a crate, towel, and dog food before we said goodbye. Rooting for these puppies to make it! We are so sad to not have been able to help more. 😞

This place is nice. Can get really loud with music depending on the group that is there, or it may be super quiet all day. Nice spot for a swim. I paddle boarded to the ‘river’ and there was tons of wildlife. Really cool experience. Everyone working is super nice. Wifi worked well every day until the last two when it was disconnected. 100 NIO/pp.

Very quiet and chill place. Beautiful sunset overlooking the Volcanos. They charged us 100 córdobas each.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot, stayed two nights. Renting Kayaks for $10pp and paddling up to the laguna was one of the wildlife highlights of several months on the road. Unbelievable array of birdlife, + caiman. If you are a bird nerd don't miss this. Otherwise, beautiful sunset spot and friendly owner. paid 100c pp for first night, but not for the second, though we did rent the kayaks 2 days in a row.

The better place to stay in Ometepe!
If you don't trust me, just read other comments, everything is said, or go there to check by yourselves !

Report Check-In

Absolutely great place to stay. Don’t miss renting a kayak and paddling up to the little laguna to the north.

You can fill up with water.

Busy at weekends, good beer, OK food. Restaurant closes at 6.

Clean toilets, cold showers. Great.

Please feed the dogs here!

Stayed two nights along with two other overlanders in the grassy area adjacent to the restaurant on the shore of the lake. We paid 100C per person. Really nice breeze off the lake made for the coolest sleeping we had in 12 days in Nicaragua. Kensho helped us to arrange a kayak tour to the river/swamp for bird watching and to see caiman. We paid $10/kayak + $5/guide. Lots of dogs, though quiet at night. Wifi included but signal is weak in the parking area, stronger in restaurant. Great sunset viewing spot!

Report Check-In

Very relaxed place with beautiful views on the lake, volcano and sunset. Flush toilet and cold shower with good power. WiFi during the day. Good food at the restaurant (3 options, simple but delicious) 100c pp/pn

Lugar hermosisimo!!! super tranquilo y seguro, Quenchio (el dueño) re buen anfitrión... nos cobro 100 c por noche... Super recomendado

Report Check-In

Enjoyed our stay here. Camping is 100c pp and you get a beautiful view towards Volcan Concepcion. We rented a kayak for $10 dollar a person, saw a caiman and lots of birds. Easy enough to reach with our 6m long, 3m high van.

Report Check-In

Great camping spot! awesome views to the volcano. Owner is really nice! Try to eat in the restaurant! Food is delicious and cheap!

Report Check-In

We checked Caballito earlier and thought there were too many low hanging branches. Cautious entry here due to the comments here about the wire, but we were ok in a high roof sprinter. Beautiful view of the volcano with a nice breeze. We didn’t try the food but enjoyed some cold beers. Still C$100 to camp.

Report Check-In

We stayed 2 nights, paid 200C per night for 1RV, 5 people (2 adults, 3 kids) with electricity. There’s a restaurant but closes at 6:30pm. Very quiet. Best sunsets ever. The view on Concepcion volcano is perfect. Beach clean and not busy. We rented 3 kayaks for a day for 25$. Nice and respectful people. 2 toilets and 2 showers okay. We loved the place. For the price, it is a highly recommended stop.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for one night. It‘s C$100 per night. The campsite is a very nice and flat area right in front of the lake with a beautiful view on the volcano. The food in the restaurant is typical local but yummy.

You can rent a kayak (15$ day for a double kayak) and paddle to the river.

We recommend this campsite.

Be careful with the trees and the Electric cable on the street to the campsite. They are very low.

Now asking for 100c (we assumed per night but he looked surprised when I paid twice), but still really worth it. Now has decent WiFi too. Beautiful spot!

Report Check-In

Amazing place to stay, next to the restaurant directly on the lake. Has toilets, shower and wifi for 100 cordobas the night / per car. Absolutely stunning!

we stayed a whole week, a privileged place on the island. excellent view of the Concepción volcano. attached to the restaurant. the kitchen is open until 5pm, cheap cold beer at all hours. the owner of the place is a genius allows you to use the toilets and showers for free. right here you can rent kayaks

Report Check-In

Easily the best free spot we found to camp on Ometepe. Huge open expanse of grass right on the lake with incredible sunset views over Volcan Concepción. The owner Kenshu is really chill, lets you pretty much do what you want, and always has cold beers available (only 35 cordobas). Good place to swim and rent out kayaks too as it's on the side of the island protected from the wind. Stayed four nights.

El Peru puesta del Sol - welcomed by the whole family (“our home is your home”). Views / sunsets are great. Big grassy area where you can pitch up in. Swimming. No charge, we bought a few beers at 30c each. No issues with us cooking up dinner. Big fan of this spot.

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot in front of volcano concepcion with an amazing sunset. The guy of the bar (Mel) rent kayaks to make the tour to the river, you can negociate the price with him, really nice guy and a really nice place. He let you to use the bathroom and shower.
