Description

On the rim of the estuary beach or in the beach if you have 4X4.
Quiet. A few fishermen at low tide and some people walking dogs on the beach during the day.

This place is included in the La Cholla RAMSAR wildlife preserve (migratory birds habitat and crabs reproduction area).
A police station is located in La Cholla community they have told us to call 911 if there is any trouble. But there wasn't at all.
11km easy drive from Puerto Peñasco supermarkets.

Latest Check-Ins

The construction site has turned into a new house and the beach access is "temporarily" closed. We went west on Hwy3 several miles to the next boondock location on this site. Much better choice. Puerto Penasco is so noisy and crowded now with all the new resorts and dune buggies and ATVs all over the place. It has lost it's charm.

Report Check-In

There is now a construction site right on the former camping spot, lots of trash - we did not stay.

Stayed two nights. Quiet. Free.
Big step to get in parking area, but my low clearance vehicle did not touch.

Turn down the road that has a sign for "Powder Coating". At the end of the road, take the right fork which is fine for non 4wd. There is an area to park or if you have 4wd can continue onto the beach. Be mindful of the tides if on the beach.

Just drive around the fenced in area to the east of La Cholla to get to this quiet little beach area which is Federal Land so its FREE.

If you don't have a 4x4 stay close where the sand road meets the beach area. If you turn right when you hit the beach you will want 4x4 and may need to air down your tires a little.

Great little area that is quiet, except for the distant dog barking in La Cholla and distant construction sounds on the far side of the bay. Even had a nice camp fire (bring your own wood).

One note, when the tide is high the water works it's way in close to camp but when it is low tide, the ocean can be about a mile away.

No services on the beach but strong cellular signal and 4G data (free phone service in this part of Mexico with our USA Verizon plan).

We have visited a few spots in the area but this is the best one so far. We where here on a Sunday so a few people around on quads but still peaceful. Pretty good LTE reception.
