Description

Checkpoint here. We spent 2 hours negotiating about entering with our own car and without guide. All the time they tell us that we need a guide because of a new law. Nobody can tell us which law and iranians can enter without problems. So finally it is NOT ANYMORE POSSIBLE TO ENTER THE DESERT without expensive guide and fee. The entrance fee (additionally) is 100.000 rial per car.
There is a private company that controls it. We also met the manager. But it was not possible without guide. Other travellers told us the same. It is a new and really bad development.

checkpoint is still there. avoid it even at your way back from Maranjab. nasty people work there.

Bypass this checkpoint, various options so be creative. 😉 not possible to enter with foreign registration without guide, even when you join some locals. Just get around it and you will be fine.

Report Check-In

You can avoid discussions at the checkpoint by crossing from the “Old castle“ to the road to Marenjab. Nobody asked us for fee or guide. Second checkpoint was empty.

Be careful at the Salt Lake after rain/rainy periods, you easily get stuck. Tracks might change. Stay on the track or go to the sand, but not to near to the mud. When we have been there it was not possible to continue from the big dunes to Abuzeydabad because of mud.

check point still here. we tried to pass it at night, hoping the guardian will be away are sleeping, but he was not. Told us we need a guide for security and other reasons, but he was not clear about the real reasons...

They didn't let us pass without a guide! BUT:
- you can easily avoid this checkpoint (use your GPS or the mentioned spot in ioverlander). We recommend to do that in any case. Avoid the discussion and their awareness!
- at the second checkpoint we didn't see anyone. We drove fast and didn't stop.
- You can go to the island, the dunes and as far as you want along the shoreline without 4x4. Of course, if you want to go into the sand, 4x4 is necessary.

Report Check-In

No checkpoint here. We passed without seeing anything.
What happens is that sometimes the locals put in place a fee, until the government stops them.
But there is zero problem to get there without fee and guide !

Report Check-In

Go to the desert from Abouzeidabad!
There are no checkpoints. You can drive to the dunes easily with any car and also towards the lake you can go without 4x4. But you should know your driving skills.
