Walmart Front Royal | Informal Campsite

This Walmart has a huge parking lot, basically 360 around the store. I parked along the outdoor/auto side, facing the interstate. It meant a little more privacy as few others came around that side after dark—I think I heard just one semi pass. Plenty of highway traffic but I find I can tune that out like white noise. The front area where I saw other RVs and semi cabs also seemed pretty hilly; I parked in an almost perfectly even spot. All in all a solid, convenient overnight.

Stopped late at night. Several semis pulled in and out, and idled engines throughout the night. There is a no overnight parking sign in the very back of the lot, but I didn't see it until leaving the next morning and no one bothered us.

Standard Walmart. Quite a few RVs and converted vehicles here. No one seemed to be bothered about our presence, but if you don’t make trouble it’s generally fine anyway. The Walmart is near a road so it can be a little noisy here. I recommend earplugs.

Standard Walmart parking lot - no one bothered us and a lot of other RVs, campers and trucks around. Well lit though with sounds from the freeway and train throughout the night. Nothing intolerable for the night!

2021 Update: parked with multiple 18-wheelers and another van. Overnight parking is allowed.

Stayed here on a Sunday night. other than a couple tractor trailers whose engines were running all night, it was relatively quiet and darker on the outer edges of the parking lot. Lowes, next door, had much cleaner bathrooms than the Walmart. Good stop for a nights sleep, as Walmart's go. good cell coverage too.

Lots of other RV’s & trucks staying overnight. Can hear a little bit of traffic noise as it’s near the highway but can still get a decent sleep. You can get wifi if you park close to the store.
