Sheltered picnic benches, BBQ pit, even electricity and a light!
We only stopped for lunch but I'd stay a night here if needed.

Super spot for the night !! On this flat and long part of 40, this refugio offers a great stop. A big table next to the fire, like home !
Electricity is available at the table and you can explore the surroundings to find wood (and nice colored rocks :)
You can find and let some supplies.
Enjoy and take care of the place ;))

We were headed to the Lone Tree spot to watch the eclipse and stopped here to check out access. The Gendarmerie were also parked here stopping cars in both directions and were using the Refugio. (they only stayed that day). There is a trailer here and there were two road graders parked behind it. They said we could park anywhere. We walked out to check out the dirt road to the other spot. You can easily get around the pile of dirt. The first part of the road has a lot of bigger rocks then smooths out to sand and gravel. Then there's a natural ditch to cross which it appears others have avoided by going off road on the right around it. We decided to camp here instead as view was not obstructed for the eclipse. No cell signal. Not much traffic so pretty quiet and we felt even safer with police here.

The small dirt road leading to the "Lone tree camp" does not exist anymore (blocked by a big pile of dirt). However, spending the night behind the refugio is perfectly fine. We had a very quiet night despite being about 50m from the road. Electricity (plug) is available, and there even is a light in the refugio (just a wall and a roof, but it is a great shelter from the wind). There's a table, a fireplace and 2 grill spots. Nice place!
