ADMIN NOTE: User reports: "Sadly the new shelter is locked. We asked and were told that the keys are in Villa Tehuelches. It is supposed to be used by the gauchos when they transport livestock. The old shelter is disgusting, full of trash, toilet paper and not only... We asked and camped at the estancia behind them."
Update 2020-01-19 - Was locked.
Update 06/02/2020: new refuge locked, old refuge cleaned up.
refugio de la ruto 9, km 120. 2 cabanas with 4 bed. one is just renoved (2016). with toilet and fire
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
New refugio was open. There is just a rope holding the door. Amazing place but sad to see how people are NOT taking care of it. We couldn't do anything for the toilets which are really disgusting but we cleaned the sleeping area as much as we could and it was fine. Please take your rubbish with you, use the broom to clean the dust and leave the place better than you've found it ! Togethe we can do it 😉
BTW the old refugio was full of sand and the roof was falling apart.Report Check-In
New one remain locked, the old one is very.....sandy. Did all the jobs well though.Report Check-In
Shelter is 'open'. Somebody broke the lock and the door is now secured by a rope. No water, no electricity and trash in the bathroom (come on people!) Main room and foam mattresses fairly clean.Report Check-In
the fire is gone, but other than that it's good.Report Check-In
Still open , beds are nice. full of dust inside. nice refuge to stay and rest. keep it close with the wire and rope please!Report Check-In
Still open and incredibly comfy inside! No wood, no water, no electricity but a little bit a 3G connection!Report Check-In
Really nice shelter. Was open, with wood stove, 4 beds, table and benches. Dry toilet outside. It was open.Report Check-In
Shelter is open currently. Four cycle tourists here tonight.Report Check-In
Today it was open but we went on to Tehuelce. Looked really cute. Toilet didn't.Report Check-In
New Refugio was open. Toilet was really gross but the rest was clean. Electricity was not working.Report Check-In
All shelters on this road were closed.
The municipality has the key and keeps them close. But at least we could use the wall as a protection from the wind for a small break.
As others have mentioned the new refuge was locked. But the old one has been cleaned up and was ok to spend the night. 4 bunk beds without mattresses, a wood stove (finding wood there can be challenging though) and a roof with four walls and a door. Dry toilets outside.Report Check-In
door of the new shelter was locked. the old didn't look to inviting.Report Check-In
stayed here (at the newer Refugio) last night. it wasn't locked. had 4 solid beds with decent new (ish) mattresses. the main room was clean and in good condition. the bathroom/toilet (separate room) had no water and was essentially out of order. The place has electrical fittings but the electricity/solar didn't appear to be working. we had a good and warm night's sleep. gave it a good sweep for the next person.Report Check-In
We didn't stay but we did check it out. There are 4 bunks in the "old" refugio and we didn't see any TP or trash. There is also a wood stove. The fact that it is even available is a huge PLUS to any weary cyclist. There is even a pit outhouse which in wind situations is very helpful.Report Check-In
The old refugio has only place for one person to sleep in.
We camped infront of a new refugio and left the old one for another cyclist, who stayed there the same night.
The new refugio was closed.
Nice spot to stay.Report Check-In
2 refugios, a fancy new one with electricity, toilet, bunk beds with matresses, and an old one with just bunk beds but no matresses. When I was there the nice new refugio was locked :-(
Old one is very simple but at least it keeps you sheltered from the wind.
