Simple but perfect little Refugio - especially given there’s not much on the way from Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas. 2 bunk beds with mattresses and a table. The bathroom is destroyed but the rest is great for protection on a windy night.
Report Check-InGreat refugio in good state, save for the toilet! No current either. There are mattresses and a table. At km mark 118, so 130km away from Puerto Natales, can be really exhausting if the wind is not perfectly coming from the NW!
Report Check-InLovely wee hut. It was unlocked, didn't stay but had a look inside. As per previous comment, sleeping area/table clean, toilet unusable trash heap. A few occasional bars of Entel 4g
Report Check-InRefugio is open. Little bathrooms with toilet and sink was unusable because of the trash. Rest of the refugio very clean. Two Bunk beds and a small table and benches. Keep this place clean for future visitors, leave it cleaner than you found it.
Report Check-InNice little place, the new Refugio was unlocked. it was pretty dusty and a bit trashy but would be great in bad weather. bathroom is unusable. small lake behind we saw on Ioverlander is briny and shallow so there is no water nearby. electricity doesn't work
Report Check-InNew refugio was open. There is just a rope holding the door. Amazing place but sad to see how people are NOT taking care of it. We couldn't do anything for the toilets which are really disgusting but we cleaned the sleeping area as much as we could and it was fine. Please take your rubbish with you, use the broom to clean the dust and leave the place better than you've found it ! Togethe we can do it 😉
BTW the old refugio was full of sand and the roof was falling apart.
Report Check-InNew one remain locked, the old one is very.....sandy. Did all the jobs well though.
Report Check-InShelter is 'open'. Somebody broke the lock and the door is now secured by a rope. No water, no electricity and trash in the bathroom (come on people!) Main room and foam mattresses fairly clean.
Report Check-InStill open , beds are nice. full of dust inside. nice refuge to stay and rest. keep it close with the wire and rope please!
Report Check-InStill open and incredibly comfy inside! No wood, no water, no electricity but a little bit a 3G connection!
Report Check-InReally nice shelter. Was open, with wood stove, 4 beds, table and benches. Dry toilet outside. It was open.
Report Check-InToday it was open but we went on to Tehuelce. Looked really cute. Toilet didn't.
Report Check-InNew Refugio was open. Toilet was really gross but the rest was clean. Electricity was not working.
Report Check-InAll shelters on this road were closed.
The municipality has the key and keeps them close. But at least we could use the wall as a protection from the wind for a small break.
As others have mentioned the new refuge was locked. But the old one has been cleaned up and was ok to spend the night. 4 bunk beds without mattresses, a wood stove (finding wood there can be challenging though) and a roof with four walls and a door. Dry toilets outside.
Report Check-Instayed here (at the newer Refugio) last night. it wasn't locked. had 4 solid beds with decent new (ish) mattresses. the main room was clean and in good condition. the bathroom/toilet (separate room) had no water and was essentially out of order. The place has electrical fittings but the electricity/solar didn't appear to be working. we had a good and warm night's sleep. gave it a good sweep for the next person.
Report Check-InWe didn't stay but we did check it out. There are 4 bunks in the "old" refugio and we didn't see any TP or trash. There is also a wood stove. The fact that it is even available is a huge PLUS to any weary cyclist. There is even a pit outhouse which in wind situations is very helpful.
Report Check-InThe old refugio has only place for one person to sleep in.
We camped infront of a new refugio and left the old one for another cyclist, who stayed there the same night.
The new refugio was closed.
Nice spot to stay.
Report Check-In2 refugios, a fancy new one with electricity, toilet, bunk beds with matresses, and an old one with just bunk beds but no matresses. When I was there the nice new refugio was locked :-(
Old one is very simple but at least it keeps you sheltered from the wind.
