Description

Extremely dusty parking area at trailhead for Cerro Piltriquitrón. Very windy steep road to get there (1200 masl) and not suitable for big rigs. Great views and a good trek... Locals warn that this parking lot is notorious for car burglary, so certainly do not leave any valuables or clothes (thieves may assume you left a wallet in a jacket ...) in sight.

It is very safe to park here. Many cars and a lot of people are doing the little hike up to the art forest. Its beautiful!! Upstairs you can have drinks, coffee, and lunch! Like a pizza or tostada. With a beautifullllll vieuw. Everything us made out of wood. They make a fire for the pizza and they have swings to sit on. Its gorgeous. We drove in our volkswagen t5 and very doable. You do not need a 4x4. The road is sometimes a bit bumpy and then good again so just do it. Every car can do it. The entrance cost 1000 pp. very worth it

perfect place to spend the night, and doing the hike to Piltriquitron the day after:) we were the only ones at night, nobody bothered us and during the day there were a lot of cars in the parking place. the drive is quite steep but doable without 4x4. At first we didnt know what to expect because there were some comments on Overlander about the area about possible car break ins..even the visitor center said, dont let any valuables in the car. we didnt left anything visble in the car and nothing happened. so would recommend

Report Check-In

Great place to spend the night. Were the only ones and felt really safe. Nice sunset and great views both in evening and morning.

Report Check-In

Nice spot to spend the night and incredible sunsets when they happen. About 30 min walk to the wooden sculptures and 40 minute to the refuge. We were told by a local it’s totally safe to sleep in your car here but best not to leave it unattended overnight as it’s a common spot for thefts from unattended vehicles.

Report Check-In

According to the mountain office in town its a safe place. We drove our truck up there without any problem (8 tons, 7.5 meters and 3.6 m high). No 4x4 required as 4 tiny cars proved as we came back from the hike. On a clear day the panorama is stunning.

Report Check-In

Pretty rough track to get there but 4WD not required. Were the only ones there after sunset. The hike to the Refugio is approx. 1 hour, then 2 more hours to the top of Piltriquitrón (we were there during a total whiteout, so none of the fine views :-(. Locals warned us that this parking lot is notorious for car burglary, so certainly do not leave any valuables or clothes (thieves may assume you left a wallet in a jacket ...) in sight.
