Description

Camping on BLM Land north of Carlsbad Caverns Nationalpark. The dirt road is very rough and you'll need a high clearance vehicle. There are several camping spots along the road. So you can go as far up the hill as you want until you are far enough away from the highway. You have a spectacular view across the plains below and you will be very surprised how many lights you will see when it is getting dark.

Beautiful sunrise and stars. Lights from Carlsbad are surprising, but not that bad. This spot definitely requires AWD/4WD, but lower sites are 2WD no problem. Drove a AWD 2015 outback up. Extremely windy the higher you get though. Don’t recommend going all the way to the top, there’s oil tanks and such up there.

Beautiful view!
Was a little tricky to turn camper around to face valley, but well worth it.

we arrived after dark but woke up to a beautiful view. Only 2 other campers nearby. We couldn’t make it up the hill so we took a lower spot closer to the road. Very conveniently close to Carlsbad Caverns. Great spot!

Nhe higher you go, the windier it gets. Need to balance with highway noise. Road a bit washed on the hills but I never needed 4x4. Pick your line and should be ok, if not back up. Decent Verizon and AT&T LTE. It's windy

Nice quiet hillside, good cell reception, no one around. City lights from Carlsbad reduce stars but very handy spot. Bumpy ride up the hill to the 4th spot but individual sites are worth it. Very doable in a 2wd sprinter.

There were a number of good sized camp spots up on the ridge. All had a firepit and were nice and quiet. Pretty views and very close to both Carlsbad Cavern NP and Guadalupe Mountains NP

Camping spots on hill. Good cell reception. Nice quiet spots at top but need high clearance vehicle. Dog ran entire time no issues.

This road runs along a gas pipeline. The entrance is a cattle grate on the North side of rte 180 across from Means Rd.
Quiet. Windy. No trouble with 4wd truck camper, on a previous trip we stayed at a lower site with 20’TT.

Perfect spot!! Fantastic views around!! Fire pit right near where you can pull off. Tent camping would be tough as lots of rocks but there’s a nice flat rock that would work great for a small tent. It’s crazy windy but there is NOBODY around which is fantastic!! Very rough road getting up, so a higher clearance vehicle is needed!! I would not recommend a tow behind camper! Unless it’s short with high clearance. I came with a truck camper and it was perfect!! Small schoolie would be fine to.

Great spot. A little rough in some places on the road. Fairly remote and quiet.

Quiet with good views. Definitely need high clearance, but 2wd was fine.

Easy to find. More open spots closer to the highway and but if you want a spot off by itself, follow the tight, rocky road up. More clearance is helpful.

Perfect place to stay if you come late from the cave or planning to go there early. Great view of the plain with all the lights from the oil fields at night. Very clean. Some traffice noise from the road below but not bothering. Free.

Many spots on rough dirt road. We did it in our 2wd sprinter with no problems but there are a few spots that are rocky and rough. Wouldn’t recommend to big rigs. Nice area close to Carlsbad NP. Was very windy when we were there.

A very nice place and a great view. The road is also suitable for 2WD. No big RV's!
