Description

MODERATOR NOTE: The camping is only accessible for people storing their vehicle here or prepare for shipping. See check-ins for details.

Sunny, small place near the beach. Nice facilities, BBQ and Pizza oven can be used. Laundry, but no dryer. There's a restaurant, but off-season you have to order the food the day before. The Swiss owner helps you with gas-filling and shipping-procedures in Montevideo. With a reservation, it's possible to store your motorhome here if you want to leave the country and come back later. (In Uruguay, your vehicle can stay in the country for one year.) No tents, mostly catering to overland travelers. Friendly and helpful owners!

We arrived in the afternoon and spoke with Heinz briefly. We are in fact prepping our truck to ship back to the US, so we were surprised when we were turned away at the gate after explaining this. Heinz said that his operating permit is for parking only and not for camping and he could get in trouble if a “controller” came by. He said he had space but could not offer us a place for the night. I could see into the property and many trucks were parked inside and people were indeed camping, with awnings out and tables and chairs set under them. Our impression is that if you are not European and not traveling in a big rig, don’t even attempt to come here. Lame.

Report Check-In

Very good place to adapt vehicles to the ship for Europe or vice versa. Beautiful place with a spectacular beach with all the services and Silvia and Heinz are very cordial, friendly and help you with everything. my stay has been perfect.

Loved this pöace. Close to the beach, a lot of space. Silvia and Heinz are nice hosts and are looking that you are happy. Possibility to wash, have a drink, super clean bathroom with hot shower. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

As mentioned by others, the place is only intended for Ioverlanders, for long-term parking, or for preparing the vehicle before or after shipping.

Great place, nice people but this not a typical campground. It certainly isn’t closed, but it isn’t open to everyone either. If you have just shipped in or are soon departing with your rig out of Montevideo you can stay some nights here preparing. If you need to store your vehicle you can stay as well. Just passing through the area traveling, you likely will not be able to stay. We plan to store our vehicle in a few months and stopped to see the place. We were able to stay because of that. Best to fit in one of the categories to be able to stay. Several previous reviews also mention this, so be aware of how things work here before showing up.

Report Check-In

we just contacted the owners and they told us, the place ist NOT closed!
the two entries in iOverlander about closed location are fake.
Paraiso Suizio is still open for overlanders!
We'll be there in a few days😀

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

the owner Heinz told us, that there is no more possibility to camp here. The campground is closed completely!

We couldn't stay there!

He now only has a parking ability for overlander trucks but it s not possible to stay the night here or get support. The trucks are waiting here for their owners, if the shipping date is different to the flight of the owners.
He takes care of the trucks while they are parked, lets the engine run occasionally and ventilates the interior.

it is absolutely not possible, to stay here even a single night!

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Nice place, the owners speak German French and Spanish. toilets and shower very clean. But very expensive to overnight (25$ pn for 2).

Report Check-In

The GPS co-ordinates will bring you right here: look for 'El Sueno' at the end of the road. Silvia and Heinz are friendly welcoming hosts. The property is directly on the coast so you can go for a long walk on the beach. The camping area is spacious and the bathroom is excellent and clean. A washing machine is available. The price in November 2021 is $17US for one person and if there are two of you, you must pay an extra $8US. So the total for two people and a camper is $25US.

Nice Camp for Overlanders arriving or leaving South America. The owners, Silvla and Heinz, are very friendly. They are very helpful if you need repairs ore something else. The camground including all facilities is very clean. When they cook for the guests, the is very delicious.

Safe place to store your car. Good place to park the car for a long time. But the camping is terrible . no shadow and no privacy. The owners are rude and very angry people. just leave your car and run away.

Report Check-In

It’s a place mostly to leave your car or Motorhome after or before send overseas but you can stay for some days. It is not cheap but was the best place we stayed. We paid US$25 for 1 night including our kombinet, my husband and me. Very clean bathroom, laundry, fast wifi.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Very nice camp if you arrive into Uruguay with your vehicle shipped from overseas. Safe, lovely spot for motorhomes and alike. The owners are very friendly - recommendable!

Report Check-In

Two days to get our van packed. The owners, a swiss couple were super helpful. They have energy, fresh water and Wi-Fi for the guests, made their own breakfast rolls, and suggested a nearby gas filling station. The place was quiet because it's the off-season but every day a couple arrived to pick up their camper or store it after their trip.

We ended up meeting a german family and traveled for three weeks with them.

CORRECTION as of Sept 14 the TIP is valid for 1 year but you not allowed to leave the country without your vehicle. this may change again on Oct 18.
very nice place to clean up your truck before or after you leave by ship from montivideo. clean toilets, good wifi great bread rolls in the morning and Sylvia is a great cook. But it is expensive to camp here. 15 USD for motorhome and one person. plus 8 USD for every other person. electricity is extra. Did not use it. washing 3 USD for 1 load. Very small washing machine. At the time 3 motorhome storage areas in Uruguay were closed and motorhomes were impounded.this place is still taking and storing motorhomes but not sure what will happen here. suggestion keep checking pan american overland site.

Sehr schöner Platz, sauber mit allem was man braucht. Äusserst freundliche und herzliche Betreuung. Nachtessen auf Vorbestellung! Zugang zum Strand.

Report Check-In

A great camping and host place, by a friendly couple from switzerland. Perfect free Internet, clean Showers and restrooms, 2 bbq places (Outdoor and Indoor), free washing-machine and some cabanas to rent. Heinz and Silvia are always helpfull, if you need some information about local services or car transfers over the sea. Silvia runs the good restaurant. You can also park your vehicle on the ground for long term.

Report Check-In

NOT CLOSED. Think the restaurant up the road with a similar name must be where someone was turned away & the confusion arose. You can stay here with no conditions (other than no tents). The friendly Swiss owner, Heinz, is very helpful.

Very friendly swiss owners. Nice facilities. Near the beach.

Report Check-In

unfriendly owner didn,t let us stay with our motorhome at the place, saying that "the place is not a camping" even
though we explained we were overlanders Like everybody Else. we were really shocked by his rude and unfriendly atitude, specially after all the nice previous comments !!

The already given information is quite extensive and correct. A very comfortable and save place with friendly owners Heinz and Sylvia who provide many very welcome services: drop off/ pick up bus to and from airport, fresh self baked bread, restaurant, washing machine, etcetera.

Belo local, agradável, excelente infraestrutura com banheiros limpos e água quente, churrasqueira, forno para pizza, restaurante. Próximo a praia.

Report Check-In

A campsite mainly for storing vehicles. Ofcourse you can stay before-after to get the vehicle ready. Owners prefer people who are storing as its a small campsite not really for leisurely camping.Very friendly owners who live on the property so open even in low season. Bus to town from the road costs about 170p depending on the company. We also took bus to airport for our flight. Takes 1hr 20 mins.

Report Check-In

Campground with friendly Swiss owners and little shadow. Also stores vehicles. Well maintained. Rather expensive (USD 25 for 2 persons).

Report Check-In

prices have gone up since January 1, 2016: $12 per adult, $3 per load in the tiny frontloader washing machine. yet still a good place to connect with other overlanders.

Stayed here three nights, Heinz and Sykvia are fantastic hosts. Can put paper in the loo here plus there is hot water not only in the showers but also in the sinks. Oh, the luxury! A wonderful place to rest for a few days, Paid US$20 to camp (2 adults, 1 child) and $2 to wash and line dry a load of laundry.

Sehr nette Gastgeber.

Report Check-In

This place is NOT for travelers with tents. We are traveling by motorcycle and sleep in a tent. The owner was very friendly but told us that the place is only for travelers with cars/trucks/campervans. But the place itself is very nice. 4 stars.

Report Check-In

Well organized, full service campground. Potable water, electricity, semi reliable wify, washing machine and the best bathroom we've seen since leaving the US. Owners are super helpful and will make a call if you need help shipping. They offer storage for rigs and Heinz opens and airs out the stored rigs everyday. We paid $20 USD per night plus $2 per load of laundry. Great place to get the rig ready for shipping with a power washer, ladder, hot water and lots of space. Sits on a very nice long beach.

Report Check-In

Be aware that this is not a public campground and the owners don't want it to be advertised! They mainly offer camping to people who store their rigs at their place. No tents, no party crowds.

From an insiders' tip to one of the most famous meeting points for overlanders in just one year! The Swiss emigrants Heinz and Silvia achieved this with their warm hospitality, boundless helpfulness and Swiss quality.

Camping on a big grassy field. Clean toilets in the restaurant, hot showers in the bathroom of one of the apartments, all European standard. Bathrooms specifically for campers are under construction. Very fast WIFI. In the restaurant you can eat excellent food for $ 10 per person (the cheese fondue is great), laundry service is available for $ 2.50 / machine. The mile-long sandy beach is only two minutes away. Additionally there is home-baked bread, a book exchange, mini golf, excursions, booking of airport transfers, coordination of mechanic workshop visits, ...
