Description

Elevated parking and camping (your own tent or in a cute Refugio ) of the mirador, sheltered seating area, fire pit and wood, showers, toilets and a washing machine if you need it, Wifi will be available in the future. The site is still being improved ... amazing views into Samaco national park and the Volcano and down onto the Rio Coca. Worth getting up at dawn. Lionel who lives here with his family has a wealth of knowledge of the whole area. Lots to see and do from this location from the usual chocolate factory to ancient mollusk shell fossil caves.. he speaks perfect English and is interested in sharing his pride in his area rather than ripping you off . 5$ camping. donation to park in camper!.( unclear as no casarodante have been here!) negotiation on use of washing machine...less road noise than other sites on this route

Place and views as described. In the evening and morning you have the noise from the road, but not different to other places along the road. There is a new small building now near the camping area with toilet, shower and sink with filtered water. All very clean. Wifi near the family‘s house. The owners are very welcoming and helpful. When Lionel returned home after work, before having a rest from his working day he first came to us and guided us around in the dark to show us the treasures of the virgin jungle there. Paid 5$ for 2 adults and a campervan. We could use the washing machine.

Option to camp in your vehicle, camp in their large shared tent ($5) or camp in your own tent ($3). Two really friendly guys, one of them good English. You can put your tent under the large roof which was essential for me because it rained heavy from 4pm-2am! Open air showers and covered toilets (the mens pit toilet is a bit broken but there’s a nice flushing toilet on the womens side). Couldn’t hear much road noise from the covered camping section because it’s further back from the road. There are a few walking trails but I couldn’t find the waterfall because there was a landslide.

Nice view but the traffic nearby kills the mood.

Report Check-In

Really nice view, but the main road is at 20 mètres and big trucks are climbing all the night, really really noisy!

Great place to stay, nice flat area where you can park the car with an amazing view on the Amazone and the vulcano. Nice place to walk or just sit down and enjoy the view. Take a look in the small museum, it is really interesting. The owners know a lot of medicine plants and they grow a lot of food. We tried dragonblood on our small wounds, we don’t know that in Europe. Possible to take a shower, go to the toilet, use the barbecue enz. They are also building a cafetaria and a lodge, so in the future we hope to stay there!

We are currently staying here for more than a week. It's a great place to rest and a little cooler than down in the Amazon basin. Wi-Fi works great and Lionel and Melissa are wonderful people. It's really peaceful here. Road noise is not too bad and the nights are super quiet! We just did the hike down to the river and waterfall. The first part is fairly level on the easily visible part. But then it goes down steeply - take walking sticks with you. Watch your footing! It takes about 1,5 hours to go down to the shallow but super clean river. Across on the other side you can see the approximately 40 m high waterfall through the trees. Take off your boots and walk through the small river to the other side. Scramble up the rocks, you can see a rope higher up, a small trail (about 50 m long) gets you to the bottom of the falls. Watch out for the slippery rocks though! Getting back to the Mirador isn't easy either but took a little less time than going down. We saw snakes on the path, interesting millipedes, Tamarin monkeys and an owl.
If you stay here with a van bring a 15m long extension cable to plug in by the BBQ area. 110 V. Washing machine is quite big, Melissa will help you with that. Still $5 per night. Lionel is also a great guide for medical use of plants. Ask him about Dragon Blood when you have a cut somewhere.

Place is open, but sometimes they are not there e.g. if they have to go to town. I had the same bad luck as the other poster - they were not there when I arrived. However the place belongs to the son of the guy up the road in Pasohurco and he assured me that it is not closed. I could also see recent usage of the campground, and there was a cat sitting in its bed on the doorstep of the house! The view really is amazing so I guess you should just wait for them to come back if you want to stay, or just pitch your tent.

Very friendly people; it is a very nice place, with spectacular views. Leonel and his wife are developing an interesting lodge project, worth supporting. Leonel is knowledgeable about the region.
Clean bathroom, showers, kiosk, and other ammenities, and space for big rigs.
