Description

Free. Firm grassy area on the lake shore behind the private houses. We asked local people if it's ok to park here for a night, and they were very nice and friendly. There are horses and pigs walking around, but the area is clean. Nice view, quiet, but windy. Driving from Costa Rica side take a right turn 100 m after the Playa Virgin sign, follow the road to the end. You'll see sort of road going to the rocky beach to the left, and grassy area to the right. We stayed on the right side as per locals advice.

Latest Check-Ins

At the coordinates of the point there is actually no longer the possibility of parking, but 50m before there is a path which gives access to the lake on a grassy surface. We didn't stay here because it's too close to the houses for our liking. We preferred the point "La Virgen on the beach".

Fenced; no spot to camp anymore, did not talk to any locals but looks permanent

Report Check-In

We only stopped here to eat and chill before the border, but the people were extremely nice and straight away offered to camp next to their house! No wind when we were there.

the road splits in 3. we areived late and missed the first turn to the left and instead stayed at the second fork to the left. there is a water treatment? place right there and the giy comes to check on it every few hours he ssid we were welcomr to use the water. we didnt drink it. it was EXTREMELY windy when we were here for the night, heads up.

Great stop for one night before crossing the border. Exactly as described. Very friendly people in the house nearby, that said we could stay her no problem, very safe.

Report Check-In

We just stopped for some pictures and didn't camp.
The water level of the lake is currently very high (hardly any beaches at Ometepe) so there is only little firm ground at the moment. Mostly was like a swamp.

awesome fresh wind if you wish a break from the hot sun in the beach, some bugs but manageable with a mosquito net, nice neighbors very humble and helpful

Report Check-In

We stayed 2 nights here, using it as a base for day visits to Rivas, San Juan del Sur, and Playa Maderas (strongly recommend a visit!).
Nice option for a free wildcamp. Some bugs (but not overbearing), and considering the proximity to the road it was surprisingly quiet (the most noise made was by the birds).
One note: the dirt road actually splits in 3, not 2, and the "rocky beach" on the left is actually bordered by a huge grass/dirt area, with a few nice big trees for shade, and lovely breezes off the lake (we didn't find it too windy). Super safe, with friendly families in the houses around.

We stayed here for two nights. Really quiet at night and the volcanos make a great view in the afternoon.

we didn't camp but stopped here on our way to San Juan del sur for lunch. it's a really nice spot with beautiful views of ometepe and the volcanoes! would make a good free campsite!
