To go to Petroglyphs there is a checkpoint here. At the gate of the childtens camp they only want to see your passport and let you through, so just follow the road. This is not a military zone as previously mentioned.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
In 2024 both roads to the petroglyph canyon are paved, so no need to risk taking the southern one and not being allowed to pass through the childrens camp (we first took the southern one and needed some pleading to be allowed to push our bicycles while being escorted through the camp. Going back we took the northern one which was also perfect asphalt).
Also we the guard at the gate just waved, no passport check.

Report Check-InRoad was open today, it’s a children’s holiday camp, not a military zone. It’s worth asking at the gate if you’re allowed to continue, saves a lot of km’s and the road is better.
