Description

A guy from Lima told us about the gorgeous drive on PE-24 to the area near the village of Huancaya. You drive along a beautiful rushing river through green canyons. We camped north of Huancaya, right below the mirador for the waterfalls. Coming from Huancaya, after the mirador, take the dirt road to the left. Very peaceful site. The only sound is the water rushing over the falls. Gorgeous views of the river and canyon. Some wind in the late afternoon but it dies down. Stayed two nights and didn't see another person or hear a car the entire time we were here. Chilly when the sun isn't out.

Latest Check-Ins

The parking lot is no longer as wild as in the photo, it is now touristy, there are sheds, toilets. It didn't inspire us to spend the night there.

Brrr cold late afternoons and mornings as there’s no sun and lots of wind
Super touristic in the day - there were 7 other cars all around us but all left before 7 pm

Recommend to take the boat and walk tour for 15 soles each - the lookout to the second tier of waterfall is nice on the short hike

Go before 9 am to avoid the crowds. we went at 8 am and had the boat to ourselves. On the walk back we went past 50-70 tourists so no chance of having a tranquil time if you are late. Tourists all until 630 pm when they close

Opening hours - 8 AM to 6 PM

Report Check-In

10s per person to take a boat to view the waterfalls. 40 minutes.

15s per person to go up into the waterfalls and land the boat and hike along them. 1.5 hours.

The guide paddles for you and you may have to share a boat with other turistas.

Nice falls, reminds me of plitvice lakes in Croatia.

still a very good place to stay overnight. but it got a bit more touristic. this overnight place is the parking for people visiting the natural lake. from here is a very good footpath down. where you can hire a boot, which takes you to some waterfalls. about 45 mins, for 10 sols p.p. (negotable to 15 for 2 people). aswell you can walk towards huancaya along the rio cañete. otherwise as descriped before. really beautiful landscape and friendly people. we felt safe.
