Was the only group there. Some cars cruising around between 11-midnight. Train at 1:41 am was very loud. Big animal in the trash at 2 am but a gorgeous location to wake up to. Don’t leave anything outside that you don’t want raccoons to have.

absolutely wonderful! free camping💖 with everything you need. no shower or electricity of course, but everything else. tons of birds too!

Absolutely gorgeous free spot. We first camped here in 2019 and knew we had to come back. Well-maintained, 10 sites available of all different sizes, all by the water or with incredible water views. Porta potties, picnic tables and garbage cans everywhere. A sheltered pavilion with picnic tables and handicap access is available too.

Nice place, but no fishing, no swiming. Sometimes in the night time crossing railway

Free overnight.Very nice and quiet. Easy access with 29' RV. If you go down to end of road there is a dock and a place to turn around and you can get close to lake. No one else was here but looks like 6 - 10 spots. Felt safe, sheriff patrolled through once. Verizon service spotty.

Would recommend. Hour 30 from St. Louis.
Great spot on a lake. Many spots. There is a fire ring, picnic table , porta potty (bring TP) and trash can at most camp spots. Good spot for a nights sleep. My truck camper(Tacoma) had more then enough room. Bigger rigs could most likely fit at the first few spots.

There was trash at my spot from pervious people and it looked like there was more at other sites. Make it nicer then when you got there :)

Spotty 2 of 4 bars LTE Verizon
Train does go by the camp ground.
Another truck camper showed up as

Great place to stay for a night. My parents brought their fifth wheel and I brought my RV. Great pull around spots. Right on the lake, fire pit on site.

Legit! Very quite in October. First come first serve. The lake is not for swimming

Solid little spot!
Hidden gem for central Illinois.
Glad to know it exists.

I was the only one here during the night, but Monday morning construction is a part of my wake up. No big deal though. Happy travels all!!

Solid free spot if you’re traveling through. Really quiet at night, almost creepy quiet. Followed the instructions from the last person to the middle peninsula (adding that you need to follow the leftmost road once you get to the campsite picnic table area, that will lead you down the hill) & there’s a nice single spot on top of a little hill, water view through trees on 3 sides! Train at night although not super loud. Private portapotty but not super clean. 1 bar Verizon.

Stayed at the 'middle peninsula', enter the lake camping area on the paved driveway then you head down a small winding hill and immediately up another hill. Immediately after the uphill, take a sharp right onto gravel and through some trees. This spot has fire ring, trash bin, picnic table, and porta-potty. Great view of the water, too.

Free camping by a nice dammed lake. Up to 4 nights a month. There are some fire pits and picnic tables. Didn’t see bathrooms but it was raining so stayed inside most of the time.

The gravel road is a bit bumpy

Great free spot! Stayed here one night; there was only one other camper but they were on the other side so it was quiet and peaceful. A big rig could likely fit if you’re adventurous and able to get in one of the larger spots. Bugs were pretty bad here, but it just rained a lot so may be better a different time. Portable toilets were quite clean.

Great primitive camping. Quiet except for the train. Lake is good for kayaking and fishing

Report Check-In

We found that there are six sites available. The website says 3 night maximum stay but there's a sign at the entrance that states 4 night maximum stay. There's outhouses, trash barrels, and picnic tables. It does say no swimming but of course we cooled off in the water.
