Description

These are the coordinates for a side entrance to Palenque Ruins. We were able to park outside the Taquilla / cashier right in front of the entrance. If you want to go to the main entrance drive 1,5km further down the street. Lots of guides trying to sell their services and guys offering to wash your car. Politely declined and went to see the ruins ourselves. Beautiful Mayan ruins, you can spend all day here.

The ruins are very beautiful and impressive. You can climb and enter some of the ruins, which is great. You are surrounded by the jungle, it creates a nice atmosphere. Very turistic, lots of guides and vendors, some of them are quite insistent.

We went late in the afternoon and not only was it not busy, the colours were fantastic!

We parked our car at the campground and walked to here. The ruins are magical and surrounded by jungle, absolut worth visiting!

We arrived here around 10 am on a Sunday. It was starting to get busy. If you have a larger rig (bigger then a sprinter), I’d suggest parking it at a campground or at the park ticket office (where you buy tickets and where the buses are). The parking lot up top fills up quick and then you park on the sloped side of the road.

We really enjoyed the jungle walk and ruins here. We did pay for a English speaking guide. The prices are negotiable. We originally agreed to 1300 pesos (650 per person) for a 2 hour tour. And then I had a couple from Belgium ask us if they could join, then the price was 2000 pesos but we negotiated him down to 1600 pesos (400 per person). The tour was over 3 hours and we all really enjoyed it. The tour guides name was Mingo.

During Covid, times to get in are 10 and 12:30. We paid for a guide who was expensive but worth it (for us). It was $170 USD or $3500 MXD.

There are people there that will also sell you magic hongos. Apparently, the general population here are not cool with that, which is a stark difference from our experience in San Jose del Pacifico, where they sold shrooms in convenience stores and hostels and everyone and their grandma were cool with it. So, that's important to know.

You can also get a guide who will give you a "magic tour". We didn't do that, but I imagine it's pretty cool.

Be warned! The hongos are strong! Maybe not for the Mayans, but definitely for us.

Either way, hongos or no hongos, these ruins are amazing and so beautiful. The Mayan were frigging brilliant, man. And their descendents are there, at the ruins, selling things and giving tours. There are two different groups, one in modern clothing and the other in traditional white clothing. We dug the whole experience.

There are guys trying to charge 30MXN or similar for parking on the public road next to this entrance. This is a scam. Don't pay! Employee of INAH (National Institute of Archaelogy) confirmed that these guys are wrong and your car will not be scratched. If you prefer park 100m from here at the museum.

Beautiful! 80mxn for the site and museum access plus 36mxn park fees. Great cycling path from Palenque to the entrance of the park, about 7km.

Really nice ruins, for us the first one in Mexico. Looks like Angkor Wat for me. Opens at 8AM. Bug spray, sun protection is recommended. If you camp in the campgrounds before the ruins there is a colectivo for 20MX.
36MX for the park entrance and 80MX for the ruins, valid for the hole days and multiple entries.

The GPS coordinates point to an entrance but it's not the main one. For the main one you need to drive about 1,5km more down the street. Anyhow, we parked right there (needed to pay 30 pesos to park) and went in from that side entrance. They charged twice: once on the road for getting in the whole site and then again at the entrance for... whatever. Our Mexican travel dude argued with the cashier, but it's Mexico. It's still worth it. Palenque has the most beautiful ruins I've ever seen! Huge, beautiful, and you can walk in & on some of them as well. Total recommendation!

Not sure that these are exactly the right coordinates but they will get you close enough. Drive all the way up the hill to reach the main entrance for the ruins. Fee was 75pesos per person as of Feb 2019. Well worth a visit, we spent about 2 hrs there.
