Super friendly border guards asked me spontaneously if I wanted to stay in the refugio. Toasty warm inside, there is running water, two stoves for cooking, a few chairs, a shower and toilets. Bring your own mat and sleeping bag. Great place and you don't get kicked out if it's pouring rain in the morning.

The 2 showers are both in the men’s bathroom. But there is no traffic … we used it together 😊
Really hot water 😊 and for free

posto semplicemente fantastico... se avete passato giornate di vento e freddo....è il posto che volete

We arrived around 9pm to the border abs the police officer on duty offered us the room straight away, almost encouraging us knowing there wasn't much further on. Meeting room as pretty other comments which was a bit sauna like with the heater on. Shared with another couple of people, one a bit grumpy who seemed to be a regular! But a great option if you want to make an early start before the border opens.

Such a great place to sleep and get clean. You’ll sleep in the ‘waiting room’ - although in reality no one uses it other than cyclists and border guards coming in to heat water for maté. The showers were hot - I think the cylindrical boiler in the waiting room to the left of the kitchen area heats the water for them. A guard came in and lit the boiler and said the showers would now be warm (although we’d already showered by that point and it had been warm anyway) If the water’s cold, maybe ask if they can turn the boiler on.

The waiting room we slept in was toasty warm whilst it was freezing outside. We were the only ones here. We did try to turn the lights out using the fuse by the girls’ toilets as the other poster below mentioned. The third fuse from the left turns the lights out for the waiting room but also turns off all the main outside lights for the border crossing. We obviously got told off trying it only for a split second, which is fair enough. Buff over the eyes did the job instead!

friendly personal, out of Argentina in 10 minutes, no wait. Sunday evening seems to be perfect for border crossing.

Today its just the two of us sleeping here. An amazing place! No hot water today but that doesn't matter.
The cleaning lady came inside and showed us how to turn down the heater (turn the button to the left) and how to switch of the light during the night (in front of the women toilet is a small green fuse box. the third fuse from the left side is the one for the light in the waiting room. She kindly asked us to switch on the light again before we leave)

Amazing. I feel clean thank you Argentina

As in the description, small heated room with space on the floor for sleeping bags. We were 8 people that night and there would not have been space for more. Small kitchen with gas stove. Clean bathroom with hot shower. Very nice, that a place like this is offered to travelers.

Very warm - heater on 24 hours. Light on 24 hours - need eyepatch to sleep.

I was on a solo bike tour from Ecuador to Ushuaia. Camping was free. Space for perhaps 6 -8 sleeping bags and gear. Room heater. Kitchen. Seating. Clean bathrooms with soap. 220V in kitchen. No internet. Clean, bare floor for sleeping bags. No tents allowed. Bikes stayed outside. Hot water in kitchen for use in bucket for washing in shower. (There were 2 cold showers). Lights stayed on all night so bring eye shades. Some noisy traffic until 22h00 than quiet until 06h00. A good place to overnight. Thank you, AR Customs!

I crossed the border at 8 pm with my bicycle and an officer (Gendarme) told me I could stay there. He said I was allowed to set up my tent inside but I just sleep with my sleeping bag. Night was really quiet, no trucks noise.

Arrived here hitchhiking after sunset (17:30) and a customs guy showed me the room. Next morning met Adriana who is one of the cleaning ladies. Everyone extremely friendly - I stayed 4 days through a cold spell of minus 12 Celsius.
Please look after this place - and the people.

Report Check-In

Stayed overnight after a windy cycle from Rio Grande headed for Punta Delgada.
Gendarmeria (police) are friendly, let me stay, you can ask for the key to the shower, there's a gas hob, sink, toilet next door.
BUT the bathrooms have dodgy plumbing. Shower has broken taps, that evening the male bathroom flooded and they cut off the water. Not to worry! I walked down 1 minute to the ACA hosteria, they are friendly, I used their toilet and they filled all my water bottles.

Tricky shower:
The hot water tap is in one of the two holes below the altitude of your knee ...! Enjoy the hot shower!

on the opposite side of the custom control. the room between toilets seems to be for every travellers that need a rest or to spend the night. nevertheless, it is the cleaning ladies headquarter so ask them before. They will offer you a hot shower and to use the kitchen. in summer time the border is very crowdy and works 24/7 (the night is almost calm though). after March, it closes at night.
