Description

Explore the off- the-beaten-path ruins of Yaxunah.

Ask the people taking care of the place about their mayan dish "Poc-Chuc", they might offer you a delicious homemade meal. (70 MXN)

Entrance: $100 MXN per person
Camping: check comments, might vary

You can ask about sleeping there, it is an amazing experience to catch the sunset and sunrise on top of the several ruins. Face the North-North-East and you might be able to see Chichen Itza.

There is another hidden cenote on a 2 mile walk through a "Sacbé" White dirt road that mayas used to build to connect cities. We recommend you hire a guide for this cenote. Otherwise try Cenote Lol-Ha right in town, it is also amazing.

We were really looking forward to a quiet night in this supposedly cool setting including a closer look at the ruins at sunset but ended up not staying because of the cost presented: The guard demanded an entrance fee of 100MXNpp and an additional camping fee effective after 6pm of 150MXNpp with the limitation to leave the next day at 7am before another day entrance fee of 100MXNpp kicks in. WOW! way to much for this side road setting as it would sum up to 500 pesos in total for a 3.30pm to 7am stay. the guard stayed friendly but would not move a single peso. as per his info you can arrive for "just camping" after 6pm and leave at 7am the next day for the mentioned 150MXNpp. might depend on spanish skills, the guard or time of the year but we kept driving.

Zona Arqueológica de Yaxunah
Beautiful ruins in the jungle, recommended to watch sunrise and spend some time there. You can walk on the top of the ruins & get to see the beautiful scenery!
We also camped here, arrival at 18.30 so no one was there to take any pesos. The overnight stay was magical, very quiet place beside the few farmers that drive pass by with their bikes and motorcycles.
If you are lucky and no one is there, you may not have to pay for the visit nor the overnight stay.

Peaceful place to spend the night. Nice sunrise, sunset, and stargazing from the temples. We payed 150 p/p for camping and entrance to the ruins. Ruins worth a walk around, not much information but luckily there is a cool little museum in town with artifacts, history of the town, etc. This is run by the ejido, meaning the money you spend here goes directly to the Mayan community.

We did spend whole day at these ruins. The guards/guides were friendly bunch, knowladgable and willing to also share additional local information.

We asked about the possibility to stay overnight there..... It was hard to get straight answer as our request seemed unusual to them. In any case, the price they asked was 100pesos (1 camper van, 2 people) for a spot without any light, fences, guards, no dogs - 2 km from the village.

At the end we opted for overnight parking in the village (lights, safe, free), just in front of the Community Center, only1/2 block from a Community Cenote. (separate iO database listing)
