Something not right?

Description

Jürg (Swiss) and his wife Patricia are running the Kontiki-Hostel on the hill close to the lighthouse in Mancora (by foot 2 minutes uphill). Fantastic views, really laidback (in context to the partying noise down at the beach). Showers heated up with sunlight only (which may mean cold water when there is no sun) Recommended.

Price:21 Soles

Best place to stay in the city for the view and the quiet but things change a little bit. The Swiss owner went back to Switzerland 4 months ago and let the hotel to his wife's brother (Francky) who is Peruvian and lives in Piura. When we arrived, a lady called Francky to ask if it was possible for us to stay. He asked for 20 US$. We said that it is 30sol or nothing. He finally accepted. It took 20mn to the lady to find the key to open the door. In the morning, a guy came (fortunately he did not wake up us) and said that we have to leave because it was a private property and asked for how we get in... It seems that there are not use to see overlanders anymore.
The kitchen and the toilets are clean. We did not try the bathroom.
It is a little bit tricky to find. Follow the instructions of the other overlanders to find the road. When you are in front of the locked wood door, you have to look for the trail. It is in the opposite side of the door, behind the boat. You will find another wood door. You can ring the bell or pass your hand on the opposite side of the door to press a button (close to the locker) to open the door. Climb the steps and you will find someone...
There is no hight restrictions but the road is not accessible to big rig because the curves are narrow. No 4x4 needed, take it slowly.

Price is now 30 soles. The property it is for sale still but it is in full operation till it is sold. Great oasis in the chaos of central Mancora.

Report Check-In

Amazing place, stunning view and location. Regular S25 per vehicle. Open for business for 2018.

We paid 25 s per night (she said that the normal price for camping is 30 s) and had a good time here. Beautiful view on the beach and city. Only downside was the shower - cold and very little power. The owners mentioned that they are in the process of selling the place and moving back to Switzerland.

Report Check-In

Closed. We couldn't find the stairs to walk up, and the gate was padlocks shut. Many businesses here are still closed after the recent flooding (the road to get here is a bit sketchy because it was washed away - there is a temporary track instead).

By far the best place to stay in Mancora. Beautiful view over the city and the ocean, a nice terrace and fast Wifi. It's a bit tricky to get there but totally worth it! Directions: coming from the south, take the first dirt road to the right (directly after the bridge) and continue to drive on the right side of the little Hill (3min) until you see the first road (left) that goes up. This short, steep and a bit sandy road will take you to Kontiki (max 5min). No 4x4 needed, we made it with our old Westy!

Fantastic place indeed. Note that it might be difficult to drive up the steep curved driveway with bigger vehicles. Low season quoted price is 15 soles.
