Description

It's a fenced off fishing camp at the coast with a very friendly owner. The guy pulled us out of the sand with his 4WD and invited us to stay at his camp. There are quite a lot of sites to camp here and bathrooms are available as well. WiFi available within 20m of his house, in which we were invited to hang out. The owner Saul charged us 100 Pesos for the night. His father brought some fresh oranges from their ranch, which where very tasty. He wanted to take us along his daily fishing route, but the sea was to rough in the morning. If you ask nicely, he'll give you a piece of his catch. That includes brasses, halibutts, sharks, lobsters,...
We received a lot of hospitality there and he was happy to hear about iOverlander and his place being added. I'm sure you wont regret going there!
Driving mex 1 south, take a right at the military checkpoint, about 10m before they check you. You might want to drive up to the guys and let them know. It's an unpaved road right at the checkpoint facilities. If you dont see it, ask the military. For about one mile it is a wide dirt road in good condition, then head to the right at a sign saying camping esmeralda. Then another 1.5 miles on a road where high clearance is recommended. We drove in a econoline van and had no problems. 4wd not necessary. There are a lot of different roads around this place. There might be a better one, this was just the easiest.

Latest Check-Ins

Quaint fishing village, palapas are not new but have a lot of character and I really enjoyed having the beach to myself, vs many other crammed packed camp grounds.

We come back every year here. If want quiet and simple this is the place. They even have a small casita on the hill side for rent $50 night. You are right on the beach here. They will take you out fishing in the summer. They have even started having people come down for scuba diving
The son and the granddaughter speak English.

Report Check-In

Not sure why this has good reviews since it was not worth the 200 pesos compared to every other spot we've stayed in Baja. Fine red dirt, dilapidated palapas, wind and bad restrooms.

Nice fishing village. The daughter and grandmother greeted us. Very kind. But they have many dogs so we parked farther from the house and worked out fine.

What a great place, well worth the bumpy drive in
We pulled our 26 foot travel trailer in no problems, just took it slow.
There is no one else here, parked 30 feet from the beach.
There is wifi within 100 feet or 30 meters from the house.

This was about 5.5 kms off the main road, as described just before the military checkpoint. We brought our 24’ RV and managed though it was a rough road. It was gorgeous!! Fabulous beach, friendly family, sweet palapa, and we were offered fish and salad in the kitchen with the family. They didn’t set a price for food so we paid $300 pesos for two people. Wifi was good. We had two dogs. They have six dogs and three cats. Will absolutely return!! A much better spot then Guerro Negro city.

Report Check-In

Quaint, friendly, family centred. The road was a bit rough but we took it very slow in our 24’ RV and made it with no problem. Lots of friendly dogs and cats. We paid 200 pesos and had dinner of fabulous fish and salad and cake. They had no set price so we paid 300$ pesos for two of us. The beach and sunset was incredible. We will stay longer next time.

Report Check-In

As described. Only camper here. Lovely sunset and beach, but very windy.

Road is a little rough but no problem for 2wd. We just drove up to look around.

Someone have’s the phone number of this place?

The campground/fishing village was really busy with fisherman the end of June. The women at the Market said they were "Full" but we could camp anyway (100 pesos). Didn't use Showers (broken?) needed bucket or toilets (also not working?). We probably would stay somewhere else but everyone in the camp was really nice and we were giving some clamps by some fisherman. The road from Hwy 1 turns before the checkpoint cones end so you have to cross through them if coming from south.

For their catch they have build here a cooling house for which they are running day and night a huge power plant, hence constant loud noise of the diesel engine. Most fishermen come from Ensenada etc and stay in old RV's. The place is very dirty while the owner, his wife and his son Raul are very kind people.

We just spent one night here and my opinion is somewhere in the middle of other reviews.

Incredible spot on the coast, with incredible views.

100 pesos is only $5USD and much less than campos with more facilities, so the price is fair.

The road in is challenging but will depend on weather/rain. A high clearance vehicle is necessary and 4WD might be at times. It was our challenge with our Ford Transit.

DO NOT follow the arrow on the sign - when we visited, some "funny guy" made an arrow to the left and we foolishly followed it getting stuck in sand. We got ourselves out because we are well equipped but .... turn RIGHT at the sign and head straight. The GPS location is correct.

A good spot in an area where there is little else organized.

We arrived and the owner want 10US$. We give him 100 Pesos. The place is dirty, the toilets are dirty, one shower full with water, the other out of work. No telefon receiving. The onliest good here is the beach. The road up to here is very bad, you need 4x4 and high clearance.

Report Check-In

maybe it's closed now, nobody here...

the road to get here, is very bad, ok with our 4x4 van, but hard with any RV.

Report Check-In

The nice thing is the possibility to tent close to the water and have a nice view. But that you can have at some wild spots close to here. The shower as said is cold and the toilet was not super clean. No tap in men's bathroom in women's not really working. No other accommodations at this place and dogs ate all my food out of the bags in the night. In my point of view not worth it to stay for 100 pesos.
