Something not right?

Description

Nice free established campsite just off the highway. Dumpster at the entrance and we got weak but usable 3G cell service. Lots of spots for vans and RVs, but this spot is especially awesome for tent campers.

Tent spots: Once you park, walk down to the river (easiest access on the north side) and walk along the banks to see all the different sites. There are quite a few spots for tents on the soft sand right by the water, tucked in and quite private among the big smooth boulders and shady trees.

The spot was really great. Very cozy. .

We stayed here for 4 nights. You are currently NOT allowed to camp anywhere within 350’ of the river. The review for tent campers to go camp down there is not currently allowed. We saw a group get kicked out for camping down there. The sign at the front has a notice that you can be fine 10k! You must camp just off the roads through the campground. Plenty of spots available. Road noise is minimal. Cell service for att is spotty at best. Bathrooms were ok before the weekend then ran out of toilet paper.

It is open now. You just can't camp down by the river. Day use only down there. Plenty of spots up by the road. Really only a couple of spots for small travel trailers...great spot for vans and tents

This site was open as of 03/17/2022 and many people had established camp already when I got here, but it is very quiet. Pit toilets, dumpster. Lots and lots of rooms for RV and campers. Cool BLM spot close to the river and nice view of the stars. The drive here was breathtaking!

It seems like it would be a nice spot, but it’s got cones across the entrance and a notice of closure valid until May 27, 2021. It’s not just prohibiting camping, it prohibits even being present on the site. There’s quite a few more spots to overnight nearby, so it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience.

This was a great spot to snag for free. Like others have said, there isn’t any real direct path to each site, so if you arrive late, you will have to ninja your way through other people sites along the river to discover what is available. If you’re agile, you can scramble down the rocks to your site once you establish one. You can bring a tube and float down the river if you desire. Everyone around me were extremely welcoming and friendly. It’s only about a 5 min drive back down to the small town for any supplies you may need after settling in. About an hour up the road away from the city, you’ll reach the Trail of 100 Giants, consisting of Sequoias, if you’re up for a small easy hike, it’s paved, and does accommodate stroller if you have any small people with you. Chico flat seems to attract some chill decent humans, so enjoy!

Pretty basic camping area. Each site has a fire pit. There are ~10 campsites, dumpster and a porta-potty. No charge for camping.

Stayed in our van here one night. good free camp. Portaloos available (maybe just for peak season?). Quiet at night and no problems. Lovely to swim in the river on a very hot afternoon (<5 min walk downhill).
