Description

Exiting Saudi: There are no signs in English, nevertheless pretty straight forward. Just follow the road, it’s like a “border drive in”.
First window customs and car inspection, second window immigration.

Entering Jordan: Follow the signs! First immigration and after customs with a quick and superficial inspection.
After that you have to buy an insurance which they asked 100JD for 30 days (because we have a Hilux with a camper), but after a long back and forth he agreed to only charge us 36 JD as if it was a “normal” car.
Additionally, they asked for 20JD at customs and we had to remind them to stamp our Carnet.

The officers were super friendly and welcoming. We’ve been asked if we have the “Jordan Pass”. We didn’t, but the officer gave us internet access and we were able to book it online (jordanpass.jo).
It includes all important sights and the visa fees.

Latest Check-Ins

I entered here from Saudi to Jordan hitchhiking. A few notes that might be useful to others:
-it's quite a remote border crossing, with only few cars crossing (perhaps 1 every 5-10 minutes), many of them being taxis. The first real city on the Jordanian side is Ma'an, 130km away.
-on the Saudi side there is a petrol station with a good store. On the Jordanian side there are sim card and grocery shops
-as often in the region, you can't cross walking. So you need to find a car BEFORE entering the border area. Close to the petrol station is a good place.
-and FYI, taxis (apparently can be shared taxis) were asking high prices for the trip: 300-400sar just for to cross the border (few km), and 600-1000sar from Tabuk to Ma'an.

We made both sides in less than 2 hours. You have to pay visa fee and insurance in cash (for our 2 kids 80 JOD and insurance (100 JOD for our dieseltruck). Be aware of the very bad exchange officer and the high fees if you want to pay in a shop with a creditcard to get cash (5%!!!). I went to the last shop on the right side and change dollars. I got a very good exchange rate! No Euros, only dollars!

Exited Saudi with my Saudi registered Land Cruiser and entered Jordan here. Saudi side was very easy - “drive through” description is spot on. Friendly, too. Jordan side a bit chaotic but super friendly. The Jordanian embassy in Riyadh said no visa required for Saudi iqama holders - the border guards had a different view. They weren’t sure what to do with my Jordan Pass since it was purchased a couple months earlier. Got through immigration in the end. Customs straightforward and no inspection. Purchased insurance (36JD) for the minimum 30 day period at the Jordanian Federation of Insurers office just past customs on the left - east. Then back to customs office, handed over all papers and received back what I needed to enter Jordan with the vehicle, not including a stamped carnet de passages which the officer said was not needed…hopefully correct! I’m exporting the Land Cruiser to ship it to Turkey from here and the shipping company doesn’t think the carnet is needed. Two final notes - crossed on a Friday at about 130 when there was almost no traffic; and was asked if I could give a lift to the imam of the border post mosque toward Kerak and at the first police checkpoint, a policeman to Ma’an, which I did - good company and I felt my soul and person were well protected having them aboard. Safe travels!

I entered Saudia Arabia here from Jordan with a bicycle. Expect 2 hours and inspection of all luggage. If you have a pharmacy they will ask you if you have Tramadole, forbidden. People were nice, even if everything looked impossible at first. I went with my bicycle from this point to Abha in one month. Expect to be followed all you trip by some kind of private police managed by official police. French Embassy told me they do that to any tourist even if you travel by car. It was soft and discreet until Qilwah. It became harassment from this point to Abha with a car 30 m behind me all the time and all me bivies checked. I finally flew back to France 10 days before my original flight because it was too much. The Sarawat Ridge was beautiful to the end, people are very, very, very nice and helpful. Just keep in mind that someone is always checking what you do and think and that any person you talk to can be a policeman. If you are atheist in this country, better say you are Christian

Entering Saudi-Arabia
No additional costs.
1. Due to the Corona Virus we had to see the doctor at the building at the right lane. He measured our temperature and questioned us about the previous countries we had been. We got a small card for immigration and he stamped our printed evisa.
2. Immigration at the drive through counter on the left lane.
3. Afterwards we needed to wait for a few minutes because our car was the first time in Saudi Arabia. Inspection was brief.
4. Before exiting there is a counter with prices for the voluntarily insurance.
5. Exit the border area. We bought our car insurance at the office opposite the bank (there is an atm). Prices see foto

In total easy border. Perhaps you can avoid the exit tax of Jordan at the border in the tax free zone at the Red Sea.
