Peru
Here at the "Abra Huaytapallana" (4600m so be sure to acclimatise before) starts the path to trek up to the Huaytapallana mirador (rougthly 200m climb) from which you can then go down to the electric blue laguna at the bottom of the glacier. The Huaytapallana is a 5557m high nevado covered with ice and is really spectacular. Entrance is free and the light is probably the best in the morning, you can park your car close to the restaurant i think, at least I had no problem leaving my bicycle there.
Keep in mind the altitude is pretty harsh here, walk slowly, drink often and bring warm clothes.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
So beautiful and worth coming!!! Be aware that the road from Huancayo until here is under construction. They close it from 8-10am. And then in the afternoon (ask in the restaurant if you dont want to be stuck at 4.600meters for the night) We arrived at 10:30am and there was a tour guide, that had just arrived from Huancayo, we paid him 5 soles and we did the hike with him and other 8 people, he tells you the history and leyends of the mountain. Pd: we entered with our dog (attatched) and no one seemed to care.
Report Check-InA Restaurant with enough flat space to park a big rig. Stayed here 2 nights to do the hike. Restaurant didn’t charge anything, very friendly and good truchas. Remember it is at 4600m so it can be cold at night.
Report Check-Inif you do the loop clockwise, the last km is all uphill not what I expected after 4 hrs. of hiking.
Report Check-InWe went there by bicycles and it took us 5 hours uphill from Huancayo (gravel road!) only with 1 day backpacks. So leave early at 6 or 7. You can leave bike at the restaurant for free
Still free. You can make a loop (I think 4 hours) or just go to the mirador (~3 hours).
