Great location with about 9 spots, unpaved but they have gravel. There is a pit toilet, BYOTP. Each site comes with a fire ring and covered picnic table. We snagged a great spot with a view of all the hills and sky. The road to the site was minorly washboardy at first and really narrow and winding toward the end when we were about 10 minutes from the campsite. We managed it fine with a 2WD sprinter. Only two other campers on a Thursday and Friday evening. This spot has hike and bike trails. We were a bit wary because some of the signs on the road leading to the site had a bunch of bullet holes in them (target practice is allowed in some areas, but not near the campground), but once in the site, we felt safe as two women. Decent Verizon and AT&T service.

Awesome free established campsite with fire rings on the top of a hill out in cattle country. Road up wasn’t bad at all, dirt and fine dust. Spots were pretty level and there were bathrooms but no trash I saw. Amazing Verizon service full bars 5G. Will definitely be staying again

Report Check-In

Clean, free campground with plenty of space between sites. Lots of blm spots nearby if the established campground is full. Will be back.

Report Check-In

absolute gem. free camping with toilet, fire pit and table. flys are annoying in June.

Report Check-In

Best spot to stay for at least one night. Beautiful scenery. The road up there is just a dirt road, but absolute worth it. It is a campground for free. There is a toilet and every parking spot has a firering and a sitting area. I love the quietness. Would definitely stay there again.

Report Check-In

gravel road in from San Anselmo is in bad shape. Ok with low clearance but washboard with sharp rocks for 6 miles

Report Check-In

insanely nice campground, very clean pit toilets and great service. we were there on the 4th of july and had the entire place to ourselves, very cool watching the fireworks from above

Report Check-In

Really nice campground. I spent three nights there, doing nothing. Really quiet, amazing view. Cleanest toilet ever!

Fantastic spot! Stayed here twice three nights each. Incredible views, beautiful golden sunsets through the pines. Not too busy even on weekends (though was winter) just a few groups having dinners/campfires and other van campers. Didn’t have the experience of a loud shooting range that others have mentioned, just a couple pops in the distance. Good service (at&t). I’d recommend going through lockwood to get here the roads are better. This pit toilet was clean but also one of the worst things I’ve ever smelled. If you can handle that this place is perfect

Second time coming up here and it’s still really great, road is a little bumpy but fine with 2WD from either direction. Lots of fire wood everywhere which is always a plus. I hiked up to the towers at the end of the road and was surprised to find an old fire look from the 40’s nestled between the towers.

Loved it! Coming from San Ardo it’s about half hour drive on gravel road, some rattling over wash board, but overall not too bad. Hot and dry, no fires allowed currently.

Free BLM campground, what more needs to be said. Awesome place, watch fire restrictions and please take your trash out with you. And be warned if you bring water up here in a drought, the bees might want some too..

Wonderful view!! Quite. Largest animal around deer, wild boar. I haven't seen an wild boars yet. Lock and store away any food. Bring what you need from the city - an hour away - or that closest gas station chevron. At Lockwood store (10mins away) there is a cafe opens 6am to 11am. My Prius made it up here. lol Careful driving narrow roads, watch out for other drivers. 1 pit toilet in a nice shed, clean. Good cell service. Covered Picnic tables on concrete slabs and fire rings. Fire restrictions be safe. Weather coming here was 100 at night 64. No chance of flooding 🤔 Leave no trace and enjoy 14 day limit

All good up here at Williams Hill. Easy drive up. Great spots

Report Check-In

The campground was full when I rolled in, so I drove to the north a bit, taking a left instead of making the sharp right up towards the campground. Roads were fine with my low-clearance Jetta, and there were lots of places to pull out or turnaround. It was tough to find a place flat/non-rocky enough to pitch my tent, but I eventually found a little spot right around 35.9911144, -121.0195038. 1-2 bars with AT&T. Lots of options up there for camper vans or sprinters. I wouldn't head here on a weekend, though, since it's clearly where the locals go to party -- tons of spent ammo, beer cans, and other nonsense.

14 days free camping on BLM land.
Absolutely awesome and beautiful. See pics. Great service with ATT. Views are stunning. Road up is hard packed stone / gravel, just very dusty. There is a big rig trailer up here so that's possible. If you are a large vehicle or towing DO NOT drive past the campsite, I took a drive further down and it gets narrow and there isn't anywhere to turn around.

In the main campsite area I'd estimate there are 4 or 5 with car spaces next to sheltered picnic tables. More with just a table but there's a lot of room so you could just park in front of those ones.

It even has a pit toilet! Occasional sound of distant shooting but nothing major. No trash at all that I can see of.

There is a general store in Lockwood about 8 miles away.

There are places to camp both before (marked by another overlander) and after, but the spots AFTER the official camp site require serious off road capability.

Absolutely gorgeous up here! Worth the drive up the mountain, even the "mountains" of dust! We had no issues in our 25' TT. Great cell signal, Verizon and T-Mobile.

Report Check-In

ok. this is a great spot. like really great. but...... as you exit the campground DO NOT turn to the right. why you may ask? because about 6 miles or so up the road you will get to a locked private property gate. If you have a large rig, like our sprinter or any trailer, you will have to reverse uphill for about a mile before you can get turned back around. probably closer to 2 miles if you are towing a trailer.
Our GPS led us that way, and we went back to the campground and warned the bus and 2 trailers that were there. all is good, but to say that was a close one is an understatement.

As described. Great free camping spot with lovely views of the sunrise and sunset. Lots of wild camping spots available as you drive up to the main campground if you prefer solitude

Report Check-In

Nice spot with excellent cell service. Take your time on the gravel as it driving over continuous rumble strips in some sections. The spots are large and well maintained. Pit toilets available. Would highly recommend

If you like the sound of shooting, then you'll love this place. Between the shooting and the generators running for hours, this is definitely not a quiet, peaceful getaway. The road up on the 101 side is fine for any vehicle. The road up from Lockwood is much narrower. It is very dusty here. Not very nice for hiking. The campground is maintained well and is clean. There are a few areas nearby for dispersed camping, but they're not great and put you closer to the shooting...

Very cool spot. The place was full on a Friday night.

Great location, great sites, great everything. Here on Monday after July 4 for 3 nights. Pit toilet.

Two sites can easily handle a big rig including one pull through. Road is manageable by a confident sedan. Friendly host came by on Tuesday and did a great job cleaning empty sites and pit toilet. I will definitely be back for longer (standard 14 day max).

To blast Grateful Dead: site 7.

Report Check-In

What a beautiful spot! Campground full (7 spots). We set up down the road, hopefully we don't get harassed.

The road up, is 6.5 miles of washboard gravel. Not awesome.

Report Check-In

Road is hard packed dirt and was easy to drive on, came in in a 33’ motorhome without issue and I’m a female driver. Nice spots and a few big enough for big rigs even bigger then mine. Didn’t need to use the restroom but checked it out and was super clean. Make sure you take the correct route it.

Report Check-In

Made it up the dirt road after heavy rains with a 20ft travel trailer, roads still in decent shape despite other flooded roads in the area. Nice and quiet during the week in winter.

Report Check-In

Clean, quiet and free! Great views. It’s a bit of a ways up on a dirt road, but as about as good as a leveled dirt road you can get. When leaving the campsite DO NOT exit to the right on the W1 road, the road leads to a private property gate closure about 7 miles up the way and there is no way for an RV to turnaround.

Report Check-In

Great free campground. 7 spots, all with views, tables, and shade. Very dusty road in from 101, but in decent shape. Just some washboard the first mile or so. Extremely quiet, and great night skies. Workable TMobile LTE.
