Official free camp spots were gated for winter. We stayed in a nice pull off with some trees between us and the road with one other car camper.
Report Check-InWe drove down 150 to check these sites out and everywhere along the river was littered with tents! Not sure if it’s actual people camping as there were no cars, or people living there. Not a good vibe, so we drove on into the Carson National Forest off 64 to find a spot for the night.
Report Check-InJust arrived in our 40’ skoolie. Found a spot big enough for it and our car. Big rig friendly in one spot only unless you’re a really good backer upper lol see pictures for the spot.
Report Check-InThis location and much of the surrounding NF areas are closed to recreation due to extreme fire danger. Posted many times and many locations throughout the forest, with the ban starting May 19th 2022 thru July. Recreate safely and mind your fire safety anywhere and everywhere you camp.
Report Check-InMany spots along the river that are easily accessible right off highway 150. No 4x4 needed. Many sites even big rig friendly. Many would even easily fit multiple vehicles. Great location, beautiful, even has picnic tables! ZERO reception.
Report Check-Inthe road to taos has lots of spots along the side of the road. the road is close to all of them, but traffic stops after dark. seems some people live along this road
Report Check-InAmazing primitive campsite with fire rings and an outhouse. Dog friendly and plenty of spaces along the stream. Only downside was that there is absolutely no cellphone signal and the outhouse was disgusting
Report Check-InGreat place to tuck a van in. River noise blocks street noise. Beautiful and no problems.
Report Check-In4WD only! Gravel road was fine but when you need to turn onto the dirt road it was undrivable and unsafe in our van. We got about half a mile down the dirt road and had to turn around. Would not recommend 2WD or bigger rigs.
Report Check-InAlthough you are close to the road, the sound of the river just about equals the road noise which is infrequent. Lots of tree coverage. No Verizon signal at the camp sites. Last 4G location was at the Carson National Forest entrance sign.
Report Check-InCamped at Lower Hondo. The spots aren’t well marked but it was pretty empty last night. There is a bathroom but it seems to be closed for winter. Free spot and beautiful scenery but right off the road so lots of road noise.
