Description

Dixie Forest outside of Cedar Breaks National Monument. we checked out the campground at the monument and spaces were not level, small and close to each other. plus, they wanted $24 for a toilet and water as the only amenities. We decided to drive 3 miles away get on the forest service road and find our own perfect spot in the trees with no one around. We saw deer and marmots from our spot.

One word: mosquitoes. We stopped at this exact location for the Verizon signal (1 bar 4G) since nowhere else in the area had any at all. We got out of the car, walked a few feet, then got right back in and left. There was an actual cloud of mosquitoes, and the act of opening and closing the front doors let in about 10 of them. We have screens for every door and window, but no cell signal is worth that! This was around 1pm in early July, and temps were around 70 F/20 C. I'm guessing the melting snow was creating standing water. Probably lovely in late spring or late summer. No trash in any of the sites we passed on our way here - thanks for keeping nature beautiful!

The road here was in good condition and passable by any car as of July 2023. Large area at the end of a short dirt road and can hold quite a few rigs, so we also worried someone would come along and decide there was room for both of us (technically correct, but no thanks).

This was actually a really nice camping spot! We car camped, and were able to find a perfect secluded spot just to ourselves. You have to drive a ways down the road until you can find a good spot because it seems like quite a few people know of this spot, but for the Fourth of July weekend, I expected more people so this was a nice surprise.

Only saw a few deer and some squirrels while here. Maybe it was because we were far enough down the service road, but we didn’t see any sheep or smell any sheep like a previous person said.

I will say, If you have a bigger rig, you’re probably going to be limited to the spots closer to the main road. I’m in a Subaru Outback and made it further back just fine.

This is also an AMAZING spot if you’re looking to do any Astro-photography or star gazing. At night, the sky was so visible it was crazy.

Overall, great spot if you’re visiting cedar breaks or Kolob canyon. It’s also right at similar elevation to cedar breaks, so for July it got to about 47 degrees at night. Definitely beats the heat 👍🏻

I posted yesterday about cow noise and smell...it was actually sheep. that is all..will stay again!

Cows are loud and it smells like them so much...if you cannot stand that, do not come here. other than that, it's beautiful. I kept going till the road ended. It is 40+° cooler up here, just what I needed.

There is plenty of places to pull off, quiet and clean. There are several other RV’ers out here and everyone is quiet. The view is beautiful the weather is perfect such a fantastic spot to camp for a few days, 16 day limit. I have 2 bars of LTE AT&T plenty of Internet speed for streaming movies, email, social media etc. We will be back 100% 😁👍

Once you get past the sign basically pick any spot. I couldn’t get as far in as the GPS coordinates due to snow blocking the road, which is gravel not dirt basically. But I was able to find a spot on the side of the snowbank this time of year. Perfectly level. Had I been able to get past the snowbank there was a pond with lots of noisy frogs. Sadly no views from my camp spot but there might be further him. I drove up fire service Road 277 which has a spectacular view from the top you can see Zion and Bryce Canyons, but there’s no camping up there. Verizon cell service two dots LTE
