Latest Check-Ins

Tried to stay here in January and the gate was closed. We parked at the pull off before the gate and we were not bothered, noticed the next day “no overnight parking” at the beginning of the lot but there were 3 other cars, one was a truck bed camper. We left early.

Spent a perfect night here. We stayed at the designated spot #6 which had a elevated pull off with views of the mountain and was right next to a rolling brook. There were a few other rigs in the other designated spots, but still plenty available this time of year. Nobody bothered us, and it didn’t seem like anyone was patrolling. This is an awesome place to camp — highly recommend.

second year camping up here in our van, we love it. the views coming in from the breck side are beautiful, right above town, overlooking the valley. BUT we pulled in at 4pm yesterday and hung around until 8:30am today and got a knock from a Forest Service Ranger letting us know we had to camp at designated sites. this must be new because we had no problems parking on the large pull offs last year. he was nice, but when we followed his directions to find the designated sites we drove for 1 mile and only saw sites 0 - 2. 3 - 24 must be much further. there is no signage indicating which pull offs are NOT allowed for camping, so it all feels very disorganized. if you’re rolling in late and leaving early, i honestly don’t think you’d have any issues parking at the other pull offs, but just a heads up (it’s labor day weekend, so maybe they’re just cracking down on it harder because of that). decent amount of traffic because it is a mountain pass scenic road. met some nice people up here. close to some great trails. 1-2 bars at&t before site 2, 0-1 bars at&t at site 2. no pit toilets that we’re aware of.

Still good with spots, dirt road was pretty tame, you need to drive pretty far for spots though.

Just drive past all the private road signs until you get into the forest, lot of those signs leading into it.

Wow, this place was magic. One of the best views I’ve ever had at a campsite. Heard that it was pretty busy on the weekend, I stayed here on a Monday night and had no problem finding a spot, but I got there around 5pm. By dark the pull off spots were definitely filling up. Highly recommend.

Got here when road was open. Amazing views. About 23 designated spots for dispersed camping right at the edge of a dirt road that takes you thru the pass. There is a surprising amount of traffic along this road due to it being a scenic drive & also it’s part of the Great Divide Mtn Bike Rte. Most of the spots are small & not so level. I wouldn’t bring anything larger than a large van or a truck camper up the road, bc there are several spots where opposing vehicles simply will not be able to pass. If a pullout is handy, one vehicle will need to use it, or possibly back up to a wider spot in the road to allow each other to pass. That said, between cars, it’s very quiet. I got a wonderful night’s sleep. I give 2 thumbs up just for the beauty.

Still closed as of June 3rd. Sad as this place looked super cute

Gate locked xxxxxxxxx

Report Check-In

The road is still closed by a gate and tons of snow as of this posting.

We went here mid February hoping this road might be open but it was in fact not. They haven’t plowed beyond the trail head parking lot. Road barricades were down. See pic I uploaded.

Camped in the official site #2 which is just a half a mile or so after this location. Great spot! Not really any people in October.

Report Check-In

We camped a bit up the road from this site at another unofficial campsite, but nobody has bothered us about it. Like everyone has said, there are some gorgeous views along this road, but you can expect zero privacy. Our spot has a decent view, but there are far better ones, but you’d be better off driving a little farther to find a spot without a view at all so people might leave you alone. There are steep hills on either side of the road, so you have to climb down to find a private spot to use the bathroom. Even then, multiple people have walked around our camper, right outside our door (which is facing away from the road), to take pictures, where they could easily see us down hill if we were doing our business. Tons of traffic, even on a Tuesday in the shoulder season.

It’s public land, but it’s always courteous to try to find an empty turnout to take your photos rather than getting up in someone’s business!

flat pull-offs and gorgeous views of Breck!

Nice forest road. It says only in designated space at the start of the road but there are people camping in most turnouts. We stayed there two nights and have not been bothered at all. Not much cell signal. Near mountain bike and hiking trails and close to the city.

Report Check-In

Pull off on the side of the road. Very narrow road but lots of pull offs.

Report Check-In

Beautiful views but if you have a big rig like me -40’ skoolie- you’ll have to drive about 2.4 miles in, I parked on campsite #12 but #11 and #13 works as well for big rigs. Road is not too bad, weather was nice and cool.

Report Check-In

Found a phenomenal spot looking down at Breck. Fire ring and plenty of space.

Report Check-In

Got up to the trailhead parking but gates are closed for winter.

Report Check-In

wow. spectacular views of the slopes on this bluebird day

Report Check-In

A lot of great pull-offs up this pass. Access is easy for any vehicle though a bit dusty. My moderately lifted van had no issue. Some spots have fire-pits and some do not. There are a few good tent sites right off of the road. Traffic is moderate during the day and not too much at night. Verizon coverage is okay. Some LTE.

Report Check-In

Lots of pull offs (some just tent spots and some space for small rigs and vans) along the whole pass in pike national forest and a white river national forest. Road gets narrow and bumpy at times, but saw many trailers and non 4WD vehicles.

As a break resident , us locals use this road all the time. not sure why it's marked closed.

ps. I'f your in for a star filled adventure you can drive on top of baldy mountain here in Breck. that's where we go to watch meteor showers. it's all above tree line

also there are a ton of undeveloped "neighborhoods" in Breck on natl forest land. we camp on the lots all the time

Report Check-In

The road past the trail is closed, but there are pull out’s on the way to the trail.

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

Closed in the winter. Blocked by a gate with signs saying no motorized vehicles in the winter.

Report Check-In

Too snowy for our camper but would have stayed if there was less snow!! Saw a couple people attempted to stay. It was freezing and super windy so we stayed in a free lot in town for the night.

Beautiful aspens! Near trails. Overlander and tent friendly

Report Check-In

I spent 4 nights up here in my truck camper. I hiked up to the Baker Tanks. yes the road is busy and dusty. I found out it's because of all the great hiking and biking trails off the pass road. also this road is a shortcut over the mountain and connects to 285 at Como. There's a ghost town at top I'm told. parts of
the road have WiFi and cell. but not all. some big potholes too so be careful. I'll post a couple pix. Some of the road is one lane so opposing traffic and you will have to figure it out. tons of roadside pullouts tho. also spots to park and pitch a tent deep the forest.

Great place for the dead of Labor Day. Had to get creative with finding a spot but definitely would go back.worked great in a pinch!!7/10

Report Check-In

Good place to overnight... there was quite a bit of traffice when we arrived around 5pm. We ended driving up further than these coordinates... tons of pulls of (right off the road). It qas pretty dry and dusty but other than that great views. Gave it a 4 due to the dust.

Report Check-In

beautiful place. nice easy drive up the mountain. free camping

A few pullouts on the side on a good dirt road inside the White River National Forest. Amazing views in some of the pullouts too. The gps location is for what we think is the best view you can get but there are many other sites before and after this. There's a 14 day limit.
